Most people would expect to see luxury executive saloons and estates in a modern racing game?
These "most people" are weird.
Yes, yes they would. Let's start by reminding everyone that the I5N we get this week (which I love) at 4600 lbs weighs
300lbs more than the outgoing M5, almost the same as the Charger/Challenger Hellcat in game, and just 200lbs less than the current RS6. The GTR we got last update is knocking on the door of 4000lbs as well... Clearly weight and size are not determining factors here.
The M5 is a hot button topic at the moment, what with it's hybridization and massive weight, but it's still a rocket. The previous generation is celebrated and loved, especially in competition guise, and a fitting addition to any modern car-centric game. That said, the E60 is loved for it's handling and V10, the E39 is considered by many to be the best sports sedan ever made, and the E34/E28 were lovely legends that punched way above their weight during their time. Nothing "weird" about wanting any of these at all. I think it's weird
not to, and there's no concrete reason as to why they would be excluded more than any other. I mean, BMW was the
standard for sporting road cars for many years. See pretty much every top ten/must have car list from the late 70s through the early 2000s.
As far as RS, they are very much not all "executive saloons". We have the early RS2s, a small wagon, the B5-B7 RS4s, also small-midsized sedans/wagons, and all of the generations of of RS3 including the well-loved 8Y (which is another current hot car with amazing performance, and not an "executive saloon" being based on the Golf chassis and available in hatch form). The newest RS3 is also notably present with the initial offerings in AC EVO (pretty darn relevant I'd say). We have the Urus in game, which is nearly identical under the skin to the RSQ8, the
biggest RS model, yet it's here... in GT7, so why should
any RS model be excluded?
Now the RS6 definitely fits the "executive" term, but it's also a nimble powerhouse that eats up tarmac like nobodies business, and has been a gorgeous well loved part of the RS lineup for years now in the C8 and C7 generations, and less so in the C6/C5s. The current C8 RS6 even has a new GT variant. It and it's stablemate the RS7 are
100% relevant in the enthusiast automotive space. Once again, the reasons these are not included do not outweigh the reasons any other car isn't in GT7, and to say it's "weird" to want them is very ignorant of the
thousands of enthusiasts, race drivers, reviewers and normal people that love them.
All of this has nothing to do with the actual motives behind why
any car makes it in game, but to say that these models in particular are less worthy than anything else isn't supported by anything real.
EDIT: In response to
@Nielsen comment "Because such bigger cars are not the norm in GT7". From GT2: BMW 528, BMW 740, Chrysler Phaeton, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Jaguar XJ, Jaguar XK8, Jaguar XJR, Lexus GS300/400, Lexus SC300/400, Mercedes E55 AMG, Mercury Cougar XR7, Plymouth GTX, Plymouth Superbird, Renault Espace, MANY versions of Legacy wagon, and many Toyota Chasers and Soarers.
What's that about "not the norm"?
