I would like to take this opportunity to polish my nails on my chest. *polishes nails*
There weren't many of us, maybe five or ten out of the entire community, but we were fairly vocal about it. We said last year when someone posted a poll asking whether we would be happy with a GT4 Special Edition for PS3 that yes, we would love that. I can't remember what the percentage was, if it was a majority or what, but it was a pretty good ratio.
I tried to be a sort of evangelist for it. I explained in numerous posts that GT4 was possibly the basis of GT5 to start with, that Kazunori-sama had hinted that GT4 was whittled down from what they were planning. I said that a GT4 with high definition cars and tracks, more cars on track, possible weather and time changes, perhaps better A.I. and undoubtedly online play, race modification and a paint shop would be worth the price of admission and then some. And then add in the possibility that PD might invite The Big Three to the party and I was excited just over the dream.
And of course I was poo-pooed and dissed by many. Not for bad reasons, certainly, but I was thinking of how things could go. I knew that there was the chance that if Polyphony had been working on GT5 for a year or more before GT4 was even out that the game could possibly be well on its way to completion. But that depended a lot on what Kaz and the lads wanted to do with GT5. If it was just an evolutionary step forward, GT5 could even be a near-launch title. But with something as powerful as a PS3 to host it, why settle for a timid step forward? I made a rather bold wishlist, including a Career Mode that was as big as real life, a game that essentially never ended and grew with you with downloadable content, so that each year, each season, you had a new set of challenges to face, and new cars to try out. This may take more than a few years to accomplish, I knew, so I was even more adamant that if this was the case, that I wanted to see a GT4 Premium Edition at or near launch. I knew it might easily be a pipe dream. If GT5 was being polished up even as I typed, of course I'd be happy, but I just had a feeling...
And shazam, if Kaz didn't echo my thoughts in his Famitsu interview. Double shazam, GTHD is going to be a game. And it looks like a darn good one. We still don't know what the deal is, and may not for a while yet, but I feel quietly vindicated.
