well, its not the first time we see a ferrari mentioned in a GT-related software.
I say software, because its true that there is no ferrari in any GT game, but there IS a ferrari in the 'making og gt4' bonus disc that came with GT4P.
It was only a matter of time before this finally came to be, but its about time I say. Now this game can and will be more complete.

PD can learn too from existing games, and avoid the biggest flaws.
Take Solid Lifters' suggestion for instance. What if winning all gold licences was rewarded by a prize car randomly picked from a list where some cars appear in limited numbers ?
Like a list featuring the Pagani Zonda, the Lamborghini Diablo, the Bugatti EB110, and other in unlimited amount, plus the Ferrari Enzo limited to one prize car each day, worldwide.

Register your name and date-of-birth at the Sony/PD store and get a free car on your birthday. Limit one free car, per year, so no bd changes.

Ok, so here is a problem I just thought about...

Ok, let's say there are 50 tracks and 750 cars. You start with 1 car and one track or so. Then you download those tracks and cars you prefer. Then you go online and now comes the tricky thing...

Can I race for example against a Toyota Supra online if I didn't buy it ?

This means, do I download the actual car or a kind of code that enables my PS3 to unlock it on the BD Disc ?

Why I ask ?

Well let's take the first solution : You have to buy the car if you want to race against it and therefor download the vehicle. Problem : You have to find 20 people, who have bought cars you also bought. This would also make it pointless to sell limited cars, since you could only use it in races with special opponents. Same goes for several optical upgrades like special spoilers or rims...

The second option would be, that all cars, tracks and upgrades are already on the disc and you just buy the unlock code... Gamebuster/Shark/random cheat device anybody ?

Personally I think they'll go for solution two ( apart from new stuff they add a few months later every now and then )...

Maybe there is a technical solution in between, but I don't know... what do u think ?

Another picture form the Show showing menus for pre-race options, apparently in Arcade Mode.

It clears that all those white background renders are from pre-race car-menu screen in chooser (it was clear even from the names of pics "Car Menu", but this is like official :D).

Nice menu-design though. From all PS3 games I've seen so far in previews, menu systems are quite a designer-leap from previous generations. Nice.

I know its early days but isnt anyone worried about how plasticy the car renders look (forza look) and also how that Ferrari interior render really sucks for next gen! Im hoping it will all be photorealistic when PD get abit more time...They need to get the cars right before doing other stuff...

The lack of any damage shown as of yet is quite worrying, what if PD dont do damage yet again! Although I think KY did promise GT5 would have damage...

Mmm... pictures are no longer available "coming soon" yesterday almost all where available in Hi-res.

But HERE are they for your viewing pleasure!
I don't know if it's a good idea to link to that poor old GTRP server. The traffic will explode, and Didi will have to take them offline. :indiff:

Here's another question:

What if you don't have online?

Seriously, if you don't have an online connection to your PS3, how are you able to download anything?

EDIT: Thank god GT5 will be a "whole" game. From sheruken's link: http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/sony/liveblogging-the-gran-turismo-hd-press-event-202771.php

Kaz: We sell Gran Turismo in over a hundred countries and there will be territories that have not adapted as quickly as the US and Japan to internet service. For that reason we have to have a packaged product.

But that would require everyone who plays having an internet connection as soon as they start playing.

What happens if people have the game for a while, get confident with it, and then get connected? Will they have the cars automatically? Or will people unable to go online be unable to obtain the 'better' cars?

Either way is seriousley flawed and not acceptable. So in short, limited editions + Internet = problems.

To be honest, I would think that 95%+ of the people that can afford the PS3, can afford and already have an internet connection. I could be wrong though.

Flat-out
About the idea of buying new cars and making some cars in limited amount, so that everybody doesn't have all possible cars, I find it great as long as it remains an 'in-game' feature. I mean, I'd like having to win races so as to earn credits that I could spend online to buy new cars or new tracks.
But it that involves real money, I'll simply stay away from Sony/GT for that generation and wait until we know more about PS4/GT6 :)

This made me think of an idea. I think it would be really cool to use the money you have earned in game to download the cars, but make some of the cars very expensive (ingame credits), so that it would take a lot of effort to get the rarest ones. Or you could download groupings of cars for a small fee of actual cash if you do not want to spend so much time racing. But the rarest cars would be available through time and patience, or doing something special like all golds on licenses. But what of people that can't do such a thing? The cars would natuarlly trickle out into the general market if there was a trading feature where players can buy and sell cars with each other.:)

SONY/PD has, in one stroke, changed this game from one that anyone and everyone, a 3 year old kid, to a 90 year old grampa, could fully access and enjoy into an elitist money-making machine. They want it so that only some people can afford upgrading.

Without broadband on-line access, there is no point in even considering buying this game.

With a limited entertainment budget, you're S.O.L.

What a lurid travesty!

MasterGT

I think that the idea of downloading cars for GTHD premium is a just a test to see how things turn out. GT5 will come as a whole game, with enough cars and tracks, there'll be some "special edition" cars that you can purchase separately to show off in online races:sly:

Of course, that's just my guess (and hope), we'll wait and see/:)

i have a feeling already, that when i got my ps3 and GT HD, and i want to download some cars and tracks, then the sites gonne be blocked loool.

Anyway, how would the payment go anyway?

How many of those who say "Woot, I'm going to get this!!!!111!!!" are actually relying on their parents and other relatives to buy the new console and this game and then continue to have them pay for new cars, tracks, car parts and other new game features, as PD releases them? If you are one of these naïve soles, then you have another thought coming - not all parents are entirely this stupid.

If you have to foot your own bill for all of this, I think you're going to have to think twice, or longer, before getting involved. It will take a financial gaming committment that you have never had to make before with the PS2.

Cheers,

MasterGT

I'm split on this one - part of me (the snobby part) thinks it's a great idea! :D But in practice, what are they going to do? Make some cars prohibitively expensive? It does seem like a bit of a swizz, given that the game itself (and not to the mention the cost of the PS3 and a broadband subscription) already makes this game an expensive hobby...

Exactly. That's what I've been saying all along. It's just ridiculous to make people buy cars like that. What happens if your ps3 or your game breaks or your hard drive fails? If you let me buy everything on a disc, I could at least resell the disc; It's tangible. You're not supposed to have "ownership lust" (whatever kaz called it) the way you have it in real life. This is a GAME.

I probably could afford a PS3 at a push. I do already have an internet connection.

However, my playstation is situated near the rear of the house. My PC near the front. (Admitadly it's not that far) However inbetween there's a stonking great big 2ft thick old stone and mortar wall, plus I suck at setting up wireless networks.

Not everything comes down to cost.

I dont know whats going on here, isnt it simple? This is more like a Beta test and FANS (we who instead of writing WISHLIST on a MSG-Board, can beta test the game and drop in our suggestions to PD, first hand ... well mostly :P)

All I am saying is, if you got Financial Issues or StoneWalls in your house, wait till 2008 and get the FULL PACKAGE when that comes out. This is for people who work hard in real life *i am pointing at myself :P * and earn some money and are not going to whine about buying a car for 50cents *not the rapster*. Hell I buy cars in PGR3 why not in GT:HD? You know what I am getting at? Sorry if its offensive to someone, thats not my intention really, its just posts over post that I read are about this isnt practicle etc etc..

From what I've read so far, this sounds complete and total balls.

Yay to the weather and Ferrari (admit it, you want them), but a big, fat boo hiss to everything else. This is basically GT4: Concept and GT5: Prologue - half the stuff that should have been in GT4 and a quid for 3 cars? Kiss it. I'm waiting for GT5 (which will probably have the same crap attached to it).

Can they honestly see kids - who make up the majority of gamers - buying all of the cars and tracks for the cost of another PS3? They buy games because they look nice, get bored with them and part-ex them (when they find they've just bought a game with no cars and no tracks in it) or leave them on the shelf when the new Need for Ridge Burnwipe: Hot Underground Armageddon Zombiedeath comes out with nitrous, neons and a thumping bassline. Plus they have the attention span of a... hey look, a cloud shaped like a squirrel. I'm Darth Vader, nyyyyyoooooooow de-de-de-de-de-de!

And of course once they bought a game with no cars and no tracks in it, they'll think it sucks. Forever. So they won't buy the next one when it comes out.

Wow. I need some alcohol and fast.

its interesting that when talking about money and riping off consumers they can get so close to reality. like having limited edition of cars. "oh, that´s real life"

🤬 this is suposed to be a game. i´m not a real life driver. i want to experience things that i can´t in RL. i can´t believe they are doing this to one of the biggest passions of my life. i´m disgusted as the news keep coming...

so much for reality when it comes to owning cars and paying for them. and still, you hit a wall flat out at 200KM/h and the car drives away without a single scratch... so much for reality...

i want to spend 100 dollar max in GT5 and have the whole experience... 2.000 cars, 100 tracks that kind of stuff. anything extra in downloads, its an extra...

forza is an inferior game, but they are having better ideas with downloadable stuff. check the preview of the game at 1up.com to find out...

i think the sucess of GT went way up in the head of KY... shame... that kotaku interview is frightening...

the anesthesic effect is fading away. I am mad again.

Damn... i don`t have all this money. i share fasj6418`s thoughs until now. i Was expecting so much cars and tracks. I would surely drive them all...

Am i being repetitive? I guess the whole thread is.

What's the purpose of creating a GT5 if you can just download new content to GT:HD Premium?

Kaz: We sell Gran Turismo in over a hundred countries and there will be territories that have not adapted as quickly as the US and Japan to internet service. For that reason we have to have a packaged product.

GT5 will be a complete package. This one (GT HD and GTHD premuim) are basically a prologue to the upcoming game. I don't honesly see what the big deal is with the game. We (generally speaking) all have GT4 right.....So when the majority of us do get this game, we can get it for two options: 1. To take GT4 online 2. To have a taste of what PD will implement in GT5.

GT:HD is also designed to be more casual, more accessible. It's intended for smaller bites, gaming sessions of 30 minutes. Kaz thinks that there will always be a market for the hardcore GT player, but this is the focus for now.

Have you found any pushback from the Blu Ray engineers to have a disk that can hold all that data as opposed to having it available online for download?

Kaz: The product that we just communicated to you will start with a disk based solution, and we hope to aim for a low price point. The reason why we think of doing a disk based system and pushing 10 to 20 GB of data we need a disk and Blu Ray is the solution. In the future, that could probably change. It could end up that its cheaper to do it via download.

I haven't read the whole of this thread, as I have a life off this forum, so I'm sorry if it's been covered already.

PD are on the precipice of matter a massive mistake IMO. I understand that details are still clouded in the typical PD shroud, that we are all to familiar with regarding their next title.

My major point is this. Once you have bought your new track/car the data will have to be saved on your HDD. PD have already said you will require the HDD for their next titles, so there's a very good chance this data will end up on there once purchased. Knowing how cunning/smart some people are out there, there's the very real possibility that someone will decode this raw data, and upload it on the internet. This will basically allow anyone to download that data, (read car/track) onto their HDD, and in turn get around PD’s fee system. I bet PD will have already thought about this, and they will probably do everything they can to stop this. But like with anything, there is always more people trying to crack/break software than those making it/trying to protect it. The odds are against PD on this one.

As details are scares at present, there’s no point worrying about pricing, but I do fear PD will want too much per car/track. Personally I want every car/track even if I don’t use each one on a regular basis. It’s just nice to have that choice.

Just a thought.

Whatever happens with gthd I just hope that the gt premium will have vastly improved physics. Yeah its nice to see the visuals improve , but without physics to accurately go along with it , it would just be heart-breaking.

As for gt classic they is no way im go to bide my time , waiting for gt5 in 2008 by buying tracks that I have NOW just because they're HIGH DEF...
If pd wants to push me in the other direction and start playing forza 2 they've found a way.

And what if your garage is represented by a hash number, that is always compared to your account into sony`s servers when you connect.

Imagine in sony`s servers:
Account # eryts65-rois98rj-ofkfoofk-4873847nf
Car hash #? LKSDsd8sKJkfjsfkj^%%5fshfgjhsgJHFskfnsfsk

if you download a car and install it into your HD, it will generate a differente hash number. That would make it impossible to play with that car. Or, it would cause your game to be sincronized with server

I'm looking forward to the MX-5 racing. They're always fun.

Any word on new manufacturers yet?
Other than Ferrari.

I want my Kia!
