Finally got a setup that makes the BMW turn. Back still wants to buck me into the nearest castle, but at least it actually points to where I want to go (which is not into the most northerly fort)

Whoever was responsible for the idea of Tokyo Expressway has a special place in hell reserved for them. Every race I enter that runs on the track, all but 3 drivers' SR tanks hard.

Better get ready for a telling off because apparently you aren't allowed to dislike or criticize a track (in ironically the same fashion that people like you are supposedly not allowing them to like a track).

WIN #2 baby! AND BY 10 SECONDS!

Unreal.

No, I'm not talking about the letterboxing (top and bottom black bars, ala Order 1886), but the black frame all around the screen!

Yo9MXkR.gif

It's apparent in menus and replays, and it's effectively squeezing the pixels, worsening image quality because the pixels aren't being mapped 1:1 (or 4:1 if you have a 4K display).
And while actual gameplay might look okay, it's possible the HUD is being shrinked towards the center of the screen, or the view is getting cut a little.

It's happening even in @GTFan24 pics above. And to many many other people who didn't calibrate their TVs

It could be, sadly the name is different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Try and see

Yup, it worked. Thanks pal :)

I've been playing GTS with a controller and realized last night that my R2 trigger does not go full throttle on one of my controllers. No wonder some other racers like MXGP it seems harder to keep up 1/2 the time.. gah...

I feel your pain. At one point in GT5 I had a problem where my brake pedal was always about 5% on

You are defenitely allowed to dislike or like a track. That doesn't mean that everyone must agree with your opinion.

The fan base in Europe is actually multiples higher than the American fan base.
Yeah, my tone didn't come across quite right there. Just a bit higher than us Yanks.

That is an annoyingly common problem that one of my controllers has as well.

Also, shameless plug for my awfully dull test stream of GT Sport, featuring me struggling with my wheel among other things.

@magawolaz I’m not entierly sure the issue is the result of TV overscanning. It looks to me like the black border could be part of PD’s design. Watching Marvin’s early streams it appears that while gameplay fills the screen fully, some parts of the game (mainly menus and replays) do feature the black border.

No, the only thing designed by PD are the huge black bars at top ad bottom during replays.

The thin black frame all around the screen is either the result of the display area not set correctly (PS4 > Settings > Screen and Audio > Display Area) or of the TV overscanning.

You can notice some people have a 5% overscan (again, see GTFan24 above), other a 10% (see Marvin streams before I got him to fix it :P) depending on their TVs.

As I said in my original post, gameplay might look full screen but it may have other problems (HUD getting squeezed towards the center, view getting cut... not sure)

Ended up getting the Corvette Gr.3 a few days ago, and I'vd just gotten the Jaguar F-Type Gr.3, and I have to say, these two cars, I'm absolutely in love! The 'Vette has a slight amount of understeer, but the Jaguar is amazing to drive around the Nurburgring. Even kept it in the coxkpit view for most of the lap and it was just....

Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity of the throttle and brake imputs on a DS4? On a lot of the Gr.3s, save the two mentioned beforehand, I'm getting a ton of wheelspin, almost to the point where I'm sideways more than I am straight. Currently have the sensitivity in the Driving Options menu on 7; not sure if that had anything to do with it or not.

can you tune these cars,if so change the diff apart from that i don't because i don't have it,that setting on 7 should be like gt6 steering input, higher the faster it turns

Saw a Japanese flag on a couple of the Top 10 Leaderboards. Are they considered EU?
Nope, Asia.

I have read that PD staff may participate over this weekend though.
So that may be part of it.

But I suspect that generally the unusual flags are because people have set their PS4 as "primary".
This allows all accounts on the console access to everything on that console.
ie. Download the Beta using a US account, then sign in, for example, on a Japanese account and play the beta under that accounts flag.

Each beta invite only works for the PSN ID it is given to.

Perplexing IMO. Scaling your content is a workaround to overscanning not a fix. As you say, for the highest quality achievable you should display it at its native (untouched/unscaled) resolution. Why would the gameplay seemingly retain a full 1920x1080 canvas while other parts get affected by (supposedly) OS induced underscan? Or does Display Area works as a selective “Title Safe” application only affecting certain parts/layers of the game’s interface?

Yes, I understand what you are saying.

But from many reports, unless I have mis-read, Canadian players have been able to download the Beta by adding a US account to their console.
Clearly, they cannot create a new PSN ID the same as the account which received the beta password.
And they cannot change the country of origin for the PSN ID that received the password.

Saying that, I accept that this does seem to be an very specific scenario.

But on top of that, to my knowledge, South America hasn't had invites sent out.
And yet we see Brazil and Mexican flags.
And of course Japanese flags as well, and well before this weekend, and yet Japan gran-turismo.com doesn't even acknowledge the beta.

So perhaps there are other things in play.
I don't have access to the beta so I cannot test these things.
But setting the console as Primary seems the only logical explanation to me.

I doubt it. I'm in the UK but cannot enter the beta under my UK PSN ID. I can only use the US PSN I account that I originally entered into the Beta sign up page.

Geological factors and IP addresses probably come into play.

Ah, thanks for the confirmation. 👍

That was my best shot.
So in that case, I'm at a loss.

It did always bother me that should my line of thinking be true, that we didn't see a greater spread of national flags.

Exactly! Which is why you need to get rid of overscanning first, then adjust the display area again

My guess: during the race the game ignores the Display Area settings, while in menus it keeps the virtual width/height of 1920x1080 (showing a bit of the default black background if overscanning).
It's definitely not a design decision, because 1) it varies from player to player (5% overscan, 10% overscan, no overscan if you calibrated your TV), 2) it's horrible

My guess will be that we will have 4 languages (UK,GER,ITA,FRA) and perhaps another or two "odds" oneslike in every other game.Thats not a problem at all.

EDIT:Forgot to add POR there.

Only 4? I thought all these would have separate versions..

1) Bulgarian
2) Czech
3) Danish
4) Dutch
5) English
6) Estonian
7) Finnish
8) French
9) German
10) Greek
11) Hungarian
12) Irish
13) Italian
14) Latvian
15) Lithuanian
16) Maltese
17) Polish
18) Portuguese
19) Romanian
20) Slovak
21) Slovene
22) Spanish
23) Swedish

No way. For example I'm from Finland and there are very few games that get translated to Finnish. I assume it's a same thing with many other smaller languages. Only the main countries/langueages get translated.

You sure raised a point that needs some clarification now. In early streams (potentially running default settings) the black border appears to pop in on top of the gameplay's full canvas (acting more like a blanking option). If dislay area only affects certain layers of the game visuals (as @Lord Protector seems to confirm) I wonder wether these particular layers can be rasterized on the fly based on the settings used(?). The online manual for the feature is a bit scarce. Also the apparent lack of a default/reset for that function looks like an omission, IMO.

If your display is effectively overscanning you'd need to reduce the canvas rather than expanding it further. Scaling the replays in order to get rid of the vertical lines could in theory ruin the 1:1 mapping you are looking for; unless the adjustment of the Display Area only removes the blanking. Without a demo at hand it's hard to figure. By the way, any potential conflicts with the game's own display settings?

@imported_rik19 The beta is english only AFAIK, don't think translations are adding to the wait for Phase2. If anything PD could ingest the feedback of Phase1, fix the obvious, and release an updated code for further testing.
