Whoops!!! Sorry. Too early.

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turis...-pre-order-boost-after-playstation-vr-reveal/

I have so many questions about this article @Brend

Is this Amazon placeholder a legitimate place to pre-order?
If this game was available for pre-order, wouldn't PD, Playstation, or Sony have let us know about it?
How did others suddenly know about this pre-order with the reveal of the VR?

I don't know, it just kind of seems a bit weird to me.
The actual product listing is simply a placeholder for GT:Sport and whenever that becomes something tangible.

Theoretically speaking Amazon could make listing for anything that they have evidence 'exists' so PD and Sony don't really have an impact when it comes to putting up a listing for a possible product. Example: Amazon France believed a ZombiU 2 was in the works for some reason and it was able to be preordered multiple times despite Ubisoft dropping Wii U support. As @Imari says, Amazon are at their own devices in terms of deciding to take an intent to purchase from someone if they cooperate.

In the age of trend analytics and personalised advertising, it's not a stretch to imagine that GT Sport was a common title that appeared for those either interested or actually preordering PSVR. Amazon has commonly utilised this trick by having a 'what other buyers bought' segment on a product listing. Targeted advertising has got to have played some part in this.

I mentioned elements of physics, not graphics. PD has promised the greatest sim physics ever so the comparison is relevant.
But who cares that a game like this simulates some special elements of physics. I mean, that game doesnt look good in any regard, physics wise too as far as i can tell watching that pre alpha footage.
It just looks bad, sounds bad and ,,feels'' lifeless and boring - i mean, its just a mobile game with karts, that shouldnt be compared to anything seriously.

Put the blame on PD, really?

Is the PD employeers that are posting on this thread?
They don't give us any information, but the blame of this thread to be what it is, is all all ours, the GTP users, me and you included.

All fair, of course, I'm aware that :gtplanet: types are perhaps more committed and impatient than most.

However, the point is valid. In general terms, with GT being such a huge and important franchise, for PD, for Sony, for the world :D, it seems strange that it is being kept so secretive. And stranger still that vague dates are given and then seemingly ignored.

All it would take, at the absolute minimum, is one member of staff, on one twitter account, to post one single image a week/month. Honestly, I don't think that's asking much.

No?

Stop thinking you have to defend everything PD does and listen for a moment. It's completely clouding your objectivity. I am not comparing the games, I'm talking about physics simulation and it's only an example. Other games simulate the same things. Project Cars, for example, simulates volumetric throttle response. Many games simulate tire pressures. The fact that these elements of physics simulation are coming even to mobile games is raising the bar for PD in terms of making the best simulation ever, which is their promise, not mine. For PD to fulfill their own promise they need to not only meet what are quickly becoming industry standards in terms of physics, graphics and sound simulation, they need to exceed them, and that's going to be a tall order.

Perfectly reasonable expectation and most developers do just that.

Well said 👍

In order for PD to succeed, they must perform in all these areas you mentioned, but the game must also still be fun. I feel like sometimes hyper-realism gets in the way of the game... well being a game.

It would be nice, but it misses the point I think. Presumably most people's main beef is the lack of information about the beta and its release. They would really need to address this before doing anything else - unless you think GTPlanet members are dogs who can be placated by colourful and shiny things. :P

Put it this way, if say 6 months from now we still haven't heard anything about the state of the beta (even though it's clearly delayed by now), but they are putting out weekly images of the game, would you think "well done PD!", or would you think they're taking the proverbial urine?

Maybe you guys could start a twitter campaign with hashtag #WhereIsGTSport? or something.
Good idea. Said from one that is clueless about twitter's usefulness...

I mean, why should one ever use it with the moltitude of ways of communicating? In any case it's big in the whole world so may be a nice try.

You might feel that way but there is no factual reason for it to be so. Game design and graphics/sound/physics are separate elements of the process and really should compliment each other. Whatever decisions PD has made in the past, especially with GT6, regarding poor game design have been just that, deliberate decisions because that's what they thought the fans wanted. If you look at GT5 vs. GT6 trophy stats it's pretty clear, to me at least, that GT6 career mode and gameplay was designed in part as a counter to GT5 trophy and gameplay statistics. The elements of the game that received the least attention were dropped for the most part. Career completion percentages were too low in GT5 and so they simplified it, dumbed down the AI, shortened the career mode and the completion percentages are up 70% game to game. Endurance racing was completed by only a tiny percentage of GT5 players so guess what? It's dropped. License tests were too hard so they were dumbed down too and as a result, the completion percentages for National B in GT5 for example, at all levels (Gold - Bronze) are now equal to just the gold completion percentage for GT6.

What you and the rest of us had better hope for, is that PD doesn't take GT6 stats and build GTSport and GT7 around them. It'll mean even dumber AI, easier license tests etc. My hope is that GTSport and GT7 represent a divergence in the series, with GTS being a game targeted towards the hardcore simulation element of racing, and GT7 continuing in the vein of GT5, GT6 etc., catering to all comers, especially casual players. To me that's the best of both worlds, for them and for us.

This is exactly what I am hoping for as well! There needs to be a separation at this point. GT is trying to be too many things at once and creating a divergence would only help the series by allowing them to focus on what is important to each particular series.

Totally agree! Was thinking about that this morning. I'm kind of over 'gameplay' in a sim sense.
The only gameplay racing drivers have, after all, is the points table.

I like the sound of that theory of a diverging series. Remember back before GT6 was released, when Kaz floated the idea of a hardcore "Gran Turismo for Pros" or whatever it was? The ideas he had for that might have taken shape as Gran Turismo Sport (seeing the considerable focus on eSports). It's not the first time that's happened - Kaz wanted to create a more accessible GT game, which he wanted to call "Gran Turismo for Boys". That never existed as its own game, it turned out, but a lot of the ideas came to fruition in Gran Turismo for PSP.

Did he actually say "Gran Turismo for Boys"...?
That's pretty weird.

It was probably just translated that way lol

I love the idea though and I hope they can expand upon it. I'm probably in the pretty small minority of people who wouldn't mind a GT that is a little more like Forza than we currently have and I think it could come from this divergence at some point in the future.

Gran Turismo for Boys was a real thing that according to Kaz eventually sort of became GT PSP.

GTP: On that subject, a long time ago, you mentioned a “Gran Turismo for Boys” project. Is that something that you still think about, or something that you’d still like to do in the future?

“For me, the PSP version was a rendition of that idea. Thinking about it now, even small kids, they are playing the full version of Gran Turismo! So, now, I think we don’t really need to make a special version of the game for them.”
