The SR and the DR score that you get, do you only get rated based on your racing withing the official Daily races or is that throughout anything you do within the game whether online or offline? I'm just curious.

Just based on Sports mode races, don't know if qualifying results are taken into account at all.

It'd make sense if they were, a clear lap free of the potential hazards of the race is a good way of helping judge the outright speed of a player?

So just a heads up, if anybody is gonna record footage or stream, make sure the music volume is muted for menus, replays, and races. I did a stream last night on YouTube and the video wound up getting blocked worldwide because of all the licensed music in the game. I'm trying to get that fixed, but still.

At the very least, I'm glad there's an extension so I can potentially do another stream, which I'm happy for.

Man, I stayed up till 4 in the morning last night trying to get all I could out of the demo. Work is kicking my butt today and they extended the demo like i figuredthat they would :-)

...and off-track SR penalties are back. Both are inexplicable and frustrating. Reducing the SR penalty for running off track was one of the changes PD made in the beta after feedback, and the system seemed fairer after it.

See I remember the initial problem in the closed beta being that contact penalties were nearly nonexistent. You'd pretty much have to have a collision with a speed difference of 30-50 mph for any red marks, so all the real hits came from off track infractions. I still felt like it was effective during the short period that algorithm was active - it seemed people were made so cautious of track boundaries that they'd actually back off from overtaking and aggressive maneuvers in fear of making a mistake and damaging their SR.

The change they made put all the penalties on contact, and I believe none whatsoever on off track/track cuts. I don't necessarily think that's bad, but I absol do think that both infractions should count as a penalty to your SR. Taking shortcuts isn't fair and rarely is it safe, which is the while point of the rating - to display how fair and safely you drive.

I get the argument that it seems easy to be abused (getting rammed off track, taking a penalty for contact and off track respectively, offender only gets the single contact penalty), but in the grand scheme of things the dirty drivers will be hitting multiple players in a race, and will take in a higher net penalty per race vs. the clean drivers. It really is a manner of patience and evasive driving, eventually the ratings get balanced properly and you get matched with the right kinds of drivers. That's how it went in the closed beta.

I was gonna buy this game, It all seems good to be fair but one major thing that they still haven't fixed since GT5 my last GT I bought is the **** gear change with gearstick, It keeps going into neutral.
Even when I blatantly put clutch down and change gear just because it's high revs it wont go into gear.
My real life car and Assetto Corsa don't have this problem. Makes me sick. I just deleted the beta because of that. **** that **** I'll stick with AC a proper sim.
Shame because I liked it all apart from that, nice physics and FFB but If they can't get something as simple as that right then **** it. Changing gear is a major part of driving.

So when you move your gear leaver in real life you don't go trough neutral?

I mean If I change from 1st to 2nd for example it gets stuck in neutral even though the gear lever is in 2nd and so on, it's just rediculous and takes away from the fun of ragging the **** out of it like you can on AC or real life and wheelspin.
Basically they don't want you to flat shift but I didn't even do that. Even if I did It should still work or If I'm really quick with the change because it's wheelspinning in 1st gear

I don't want to upset you but GT sport has bigger problems that that ;) Relax its just a game.

The SR Threat is real lol. Even when i have some space to pass, i hesitate as I don't want to hit anyone.

Finished 21st in Brazil and yet it was thrilling cat and mouse. Super enjoyable. Never imagined i will save a replay of finishing 21st.

As I said, late in the beta off track was still penalised, just not as much, since you didn't get +ve SR for the sector. Then they added the time penalty for cutting, which ought to deal with that (it didn't really work right then, and doesn't seem a lot better now, but that's another matter). It seemed to be moving in the right direction.

SR loss for bumping other cars seems extremely sensitive now. I saw the dreaded orange tag pop up and had to watch the video to work out why - someone had literally just touched my rear, so gently that I hadn't noticed any bump at all!! Dare I say that it's too sensitive now?

To my thinking, if I run wide on exit, while accepting that it's my mistake and fault, if I lose time I've paid the price. If I gain time, then the time penalty should kick in.

I'd say the beta went from too harsh (overall) with SR, to too generous. Now it's back to too harsh, IMO. The 'somewhat clean' will be rated along with the utterly dirty, or even below. Personally I'll work around it and do what it takes to get my rating up, but that won't stop me criticising it where I think it could be better.

Hopped onto Sport Mode for the first time and had some pretty good races. Qualified 4th and finished 5th in Maggiore with the R35 Gr. 4 after several mistakes due to not knowing the track and getting track limit penalties.

Had a much better time at Interlagos in the 911 RSR finishing 2nd after qualifying 6th. Had a great battle for the lead with another RSR once I cleared traffic.

There's potential there in Sport Mode once BoP is sorted and DR/SR is further refined.

There will be always a car that is 1-2s faster because of the setup in good hands those cars will dominate like it was in the first Beta. On the same time I hope the GTR episode will never come back.

Just based on Sports mode races, don't know if qualifying results are taken into account at all.

DR is definitely affected by qualy. I finished a race at D quallied for the next and it raised to C having put myself P2. SR your guess is as good as mine, but I've only noticed a change after a race.

Kaz has great taste. I love vinyl records too.

I'll be getting this in the future, probably..

But let me ask. Is Sport mode the mode where you get the SR/DR?

Do they have lobbies where you can invite your friend and just mess around like the previous GTs?

Well I finished 1 race without hitting the dirt. Some creative driving kept the rammer behind me from completing his mission. Wish there was a middle finger gesture in game for when someone rams you but you DONT leave the track and they spin out instead!

I have a GOAL now. To get the S SR rating. THEN I can see what folks are like who are respectful. I know they will likely trounce my amateur butt but at least I can try to keep up as a goal. Doesnt help that 2 races out the last 4 failed due to 'network error'.

Question : has ANYONE here got the S rating in SR yet from the demo alone? If so how many races did it take you?

EDIT: Or A rating at least. Seems EVERYONE starts on B so it's a free for all at the start.

It updates at the end of a race, but it doesn't show you an updated rating on the finish board of that race!

Sometime during the beta it was said (by Kaz?) that it was calculated from your start position and your finish position. Quali time wasn't mentioned and I never noticed it having an effect. Nor did I notice getting an increase from gaining places in a race, say, starting 8th and finishing 5th. At times I was watching it religiously trying to work it out! The only surefire way to boost it was to get a podium finish (which depends very much on who you're matched with). Anyway, it could've changed now but until we get the real game I won't be examining it that carefully.

...I was watcing Game Scoop over yonder at IGN and heard that the tracking firm Neilsen did a survey in September asking 6000 "gamers" what games they were looking forward to playing this holiday season.

Their obvious answer was the latest COD, but when the survey looked into console-specific criteria, Xbox owners went for Forza, while PlayStation people went for GT:S.

I'm genuinely curious now, how much of this sentiment had changed, either positively or negatively, after this extensive launch of the open beta?

I wish someone could do a quick online survey and tell me... Oh well. I guess we'll see cum launch day + a month after release with the sales figures/players online.

I was asked to keep trying so I did. Until I stop I will keep posting what happens.
My last post I said I had a goal. To improve my SR rating and asked a question about it.
Just lost 30 mins in a game I wont get back going BACKWARDS. Tried hard got my best qualifier.
Drove cleanly and fast, didnt touch anyone or leave the track.
End of lap 2 some B rated driver punted me HEAVILY into the wall head on. BIG B down sign on screen.
TEN second penalty.
Ended race with a RED B. So I literally would have been better off not racing at all.
Which
Is
My
Whole
Point
PS Doing a race now. IF my B does not turn blue I'm deleting the game off the HD. IF blue I will continue.

EDIT - The B turned blue - game lives :D

Ramming people off track = the team killing in Gran Turismo.

It always saddens me to see high level ranked players in other games (R6S) who purposely target fresh players or those less skilled. This has been a nagging concern of mine based on the description of the ranking system in GT. What is to prevent abuse? If other players can ram me like the AI does and I get stuck with the penalty, what does that say for the penalty system in ranked?
