I think by now, it should be a minimum requirement, for any realistic racing simulator to have car damage in 2016. In 2001, given the power of the PS2, it was perfectly understandable for Gran Turismo 3 to not have car damage. However in 2016, with the power of the PS4, there is no excuse. I am perfectly ok with no car damage, however bouncing off guardrails and hitting a barrier unscathed at 200MPH, makes it unrealistic.
 
A downside I actually can find with the reduction in cars, besides losing some favorites, are community run series are going to lose a lot of variety. Unless they really manage to pack just the right cars in this roughly 200 car count.
