Ahem

I wonder how they will get on with GT Academy this year - by having it restricted to live events at certain locations it is going to seriously reduce the talent pool as many won't be able to make it to those events to even qualify.

IIRC from the GTP news article, the assumption was that the competition would open up to everyone after the release of the game.

I would normally go back around and search for this info, but do we know yet if there are any performance upgrades beyond tuning?

I'm sure they would be able to accommodate you mate.
Any chance of contacting them beforehand to ask about that maybe? (bring your own Dualshock!)
Look, I'll try to contact someone because I don't want to miss this opportunity...
And...
Happy Birthday Kaz. I'll give you a cake - soon.

Edit: Just posted a comment on the Nissan Australia Facebook page asking about the use of a controller in the GT Academy Event.

So the current GT Academy events are really pretty pointless from a GT Academy perspective then and really only a PR exercise for GT Sport? (which would be better served by just having those events as demo events where you could run the different available cars and tracks).

My take is tuning will be limited to more reasonable levels for circuit racing. I can't see a 1k hp road car lasting long going full tilt. Even Veyron seems to start panting after a few laps from what I gather, and it is a rolling radiator.

Yes.

This is just my guessing here, but I think the reason GT Academy is so bare-bones this year versus previous ones is because Nissan had no idea what Polyphony's plans were with the now-cancelled public beta. That would've been an ideal platform for them to run a more traditional GTA on, but since that was quietly killed off, this current live-event-only approach was adopted.

From my understanding, it should be back to the regularly-scheduled program next year.
