I have zero skill on controller. My muscle memory is completely locked into wheel usage unfortunately, so I'm cooked. I'm only attempting 1 slot, just to see how bad it is. if it's not fixed by Interlagos, I'll have to abandon the championship. Such a shame!
You’ll probably need turn up the sound of the tyres to help if there’s no FFB

I can't belive I'll be competing with a nerfed logitech wheel for this round. Absolutely gutted this has happened just before the start of GTWS. Poor form from PD, even by their standards.
I know the pain, those of us on controller have been competing with nerfed steering for 3 years, hopefully PD take a look at both of those issues in the next update (probably in 3 and a half weeks).

PD's recommendation, is to go out and by a Fanatec instead. Problem solved apparently! What makes this even worse, is that I've been absolutely flying in practice races. But I know I'll lose all my pace come race time. This is the way...
Same here. Just so bummed out, especially because it's Nord... and likely wet. In the wet, having no FFB is even worse. I might still try and do one on a alt or something, but we'll see. Not being able to feel the car not only kills the ability to drive it well, but a lot of the fun of playing. If I do, I'll likely run ASM and TC1 since I can't feel when the car start to lose it.

I'd actually done some practicing with the TF turned all the way down (as it still works on TT so you have to manually shut it off). If it wasn't for a league I am in (which is worse having no TF for that than anything) that just started I'd turn this game off until the patch likely at the end of April.

Well that was a sick joke. One hour in and the server crashes and everyone gets booted.

PD are a joke. When I only have slots at 10pm, midnight and 2am local time this is completely pointless.

There’s a good chance I won’t do any more of this season. The constant glitches, ruining the BoP and recycling combos has worn too thin.

I spent a bunch of time yesterday looking at weather for today's race -- exiting and re-entering Free Practice sessions. If the Free Practice is any indication, it seems like rain is going to be pretty rare. I only saw the potential for rain in 10-20% of the sessions.

One other thing I've noticed is that the weather always seems to be moving in the same direction at the same speed: from the southeast at about 140km/h. If I zoom out the radar map to the maximum and find that the bottom right quadrant is clear at the current time, I'm going to expect no rain.

It boggles my mind how you are able to keep up with top-split drivers like you do. As a controller driver, I find it inspiring. Maybe you are running into limitations of the controller, but from where I'm sitting you seem to doing remarkably well. I can only hope that one day I'll be fast enough to complain about the controller holding me back. Until then, I can only blame my lack of skill for my mediocre pace.

That's horrible mate, I'm sorry to hear. I'm currently in London for work, and least this makes me a touch less sad about missing this round (and also round 2 at one of my favourite tracks....unless I can miraculously find a sim arcade with GT7 or borrow a ps5 on Saturday).

The hilarious part is, on the other side of the world, the race times are 8am, 10am and noon, as opposed to the cooked schedule we have to put up with in our own freaking timezone!!!

Mixed bag in the streams I've been watching. Some bone dry, some pretty wet. Seems more 50/50 to me.

Yeah bro, it's actually kind of depressing. I know there are bigger things going on in the world and life. But this is pretty much one of the few hobbies I get to enjoy. And I feel like PD have robbed me of that enjoyment. Anyway... These are just first world problems.

In practice I've been absolutely flying. Best finishing time in a dry run was 40:30 and I've beaten a few 2nd split guys fair and square. Good luck if you take part.

The controller isn't too bad on this game to be fair, in most cars the difference is pretty negligible to the wheels it's just every now and then you see something those on wheels are doing and you know it's impossible on pad.

There are others loads faster than me on controller, their pace is crazy!

I was very eager to do this series to test myself because I feel Im a much better driver than the last year.
This was going to be my first GTWS on a DD wheel but PD had other plans for me
I’m going back to the controller until it’s fixed
I wish I could but Im a complete caveman with a controller.

Good luck mate.
Im skipping manufacturers and lets hope they fix this thing before Nations.

Until that, Im not doing any online race.

Still no sign of a Patch/Hot Fix and I’m sorely disappointed ahead of today. Attempting Round 1 with No FFB will ruin my SR/DR. Polyphony if you are reading this please I urge you to get this fixed as soon as possible. There are many Logitech G Pro Users in here who have been training and looking forward to the GTWS all year to have this dumped upon us the week before is very sad.

Logitech and PD need to have a better relationship in establishing a hard stop on changes to their own hardware/software within the Game as this reflects poorly on Logi themselves but isn’t representative of what the wheel is fully capable of. Further communication is strongly needed to avoid situations like these. 😔

I’m feeling so frustrated by the whole situation.

Controller player here also. I use to be an avid iracer before the wife and kids came along. But now I just don't have the time or funds to invest in being competitive on there. But I had the itch forever and held off on doing anything on consoles because I knew I was going to have to use a controller.

When I picked up GT Sport I was blown away at how much better the controller was compared to earlier games I played like Project Gotham, original forza, etc... I remapped my controller a bit to do manual shifting easier for me and now after a few years of enjoying the sim I desperately want a wheel but I feel like I'd be so much worse with a wheel now after becoming so accustom to being on a controller. And not to mention I'm not even on a PS5 yet, so feel like I should purchase that before a wheel. :)

And like GOTMAX said, I really don't feel like I'm at a disadvantage for the most part. The only time I really notice a difference is when the tire wear is set high. I can usually keep pace for a couple of laps but then I can just tell they are able to manage the tire wear better than I'm able to.

I see it's time to post manufacturer photos again. :D

Here's hoping the GT-R holds up well, first time I've ever picked Nissan I think. It certainly feels more my style than the Corvette did at least!
If you haven't worked it out yet, I usually run brake balance at +3. It... well, it doesn't do anything to even the tyre wear, but it's the best compromise for trying to do that while getting rid of the understeer. Have fun.

First US slot done.
Low B lobby, 64 points for the win.

Qualifying sunny and clear. Two big mistakes in my quali lap positioned me in the 8th spot on the grid, but in this race it doesn't matter that much. Especially with probable weather conditions.

After quali, the lobby screen changed to dark overcast. Quick look at the radar - some wet patches going away from the circuit, nothing's coming in - gonna be bone dry.

Start was pretty uneventful, just careful not to make mistake and capitalise on others'. Soon enough I was 6th, in the Nordschleife gained another two places (seems like people are still being caught out that the car in the race drives differently that a while before in quali due to weight of fuel tank added and push too much).

Stuck in that 4th place for the rest of the lap. Tried to overtake the Brazilian Ferrarista without being too pushy, but it's so hard on this track, they were clearly slower. Me trying resulted in me making a mistake in the corner before little karussell, so the Ferrari went a little ahead.

But I caught him around Aremberg next lap where they made a mistake. Soon I gained 3rd place but the first two were already several seconds ahead.
GTWS25-Manu1-Aremberg.jpg

So I concentrated on loosing the Ferrari behind, but it was an up and down. Once I gained a second or two I blew some corner and lost most of it. Finally at the end of 3rd lap we pit, but the Lambo from behind didn't and it was right ahead of me when we exit.

So I bit my lip and tried to overtake them as it struggled with worn tires, hoping they would hold up the Brazilian. I got good exit after the chicane around Adenauer Forst while they didn't and overtook them.

Rest of the race was just managing the gap behid which rose significantly on the last lap (grave mistakes I gather).
Lambo didn't pit at all and got 2 minute penalty.
Considering the circumstance podium is good.

59 points for 3rd place is a reasonably good start, let's see what's ahead.

The NSX is pretty nice to drive, not a speed demon, but overall I'm happy so far.

Tactically my Logitech friends I’d recommend just doing one race on a controller and parking or driving because some points are better than none with how flakey PD servers are (Sony)

Honestly imagine one of the other combos and a disconnect but the 30-80-150 points on the board

Did all 3 races in Oceana. A+ GT1 in the McLaren 650S GT3

Looks like Quali is/was always dry and sunny 100% no clouds in the sky.

Race 1: Qualified 5th. Patchy rain between light blue and red. Started on Intermediates, and the rain bar was at 65-70% at the start., just into Wet territory. Managed to make up some spots, lose some spots due to some close penalties and then get punted off the road just past the rebel tree by a blue Renault that went on to win the race. Looks like the dry line was in full effect here, I pitted Lap2 to get out of traffic and made up ~20s a lap to get back onto the train. A little sBinalla of my own doing dropped me down to 10th but I clawed my way back to 5th.

Race 2: Qualified 10th. Nothing really happened this race. Got stuck in traffic, got a dumb penalty, finished 11th (I think).

Race 3: I achieved a higher plane of existence, and set a quali lap 2 seconds faster than my PB, and got 3rd on the grid. I then followed the top 2 into the distance, closed onto 2nd, overtook on Lap 2, he pitted at the end of Lap 2. I kept 1st within 3 seconds, and followed him into the pits end of Lap 3. Managed the overcut over the now 3rd-place driver. Stayed that way to the end, entirely dry race, but with dark clouds overhead. Out lap times were all within about 1 second of each other for every lap, and were more-or-less qualifying pace as well.

Happy with the first race, much less so with the second. Very pleased with the 3rd race, nice amount of points and a good race.

Had a stressful day today that isn't conducive to enjoying the Nurburgring, so I've decided to watch EMEA GT1 split one instead.

And, uh, I get what people mean about the points system now. There's so many high A+ drivers that winning split 3 even seems like it might be enough points to viably contend.

In solidarity with my Logitech friends I’m door number 2 in the pits after lap 1 and moved from last to 12th, I even went out on the slicks for the damp start (and to be honest in more capable hands that was the right choice as it would have been a fast 2/3rd and slow final 1/3rd but the early change to rain rubber would have leap frogged most of the field)

It’s all fine, I’m not fast here and especially not in a Gr3 supra for my ability.

Edit: correction I’m now 11th just sitting in the pits.

Edit2: @Moose78 if your best three rounds are scored it would make sense to bank some points just incase stuff happens or d/c in another race/round etc. that was what I was getting at.

Edit3: you can’t make this up….im now 5th in an A/S lobby sitting in the pits.

Absolutely mental, PD have a lot of problems but I mean so do the racers. OMG

Not in VR as I’m just drinking and watching the track map

Okay, decided to not let the track scare me and jumped in to a GT3 slot with absolutely no practice in the Porsche under this BoP.

This will go splendidly.

Flippin heck, I put in P5 on the grid with a 8:22. Only a C/B lobby but come on, how slow is everyone else?!

Mods merge if necessary (apologies posting from mobile)

Right this is an A/S lobby in the EMEA region which has a higher density.

I start last literally want a participation medal and move on.

I’m just going to leave these here, I didn’t qualify, as I said made the right call with rain until the final 1/3rd of the first lap and pitted.

I stand by what I said earlier it was worth entering more than abstaining.

Ignoring my Fanatec issues recently, if you wanna race, racing finds a way.

But seriously:
