Hi, here is my workaround for permanent DRS

What a terrible race.

First time I play since the update (excluding a pair of laps for the Alphard time trial) and Brands Hatch has never clicked for me.

I've been fighting the car rather than other drivers. Good thing I got lapped so I suffered for one lap fewer. I feel most of us were having a really bad time.

12th of 13.

I took the Corvette and Mustang (the only 2 cars I'm considering) for a spin around Daytona last night, and the Mustang was 0.75s up on the Corvette, and was able to beat it in every single sector. I managed to win with the Corvette in this same combo the last time it came up in the first 2022 official season, but even back then the Corvette was lacking in pace compared to many of the other cars (ESPECIALLY the Supra), and I was just fortunate that everyone binned it whenever they got near me or passed me. Now I don't think I'd do better than mid-pack in the same car, so I'll most likely sign with Ford since Daytona is the only race I'm planning to do. Sounds like it'll still be a challenge to beat the Supras just like last time though...
Exactly the same for me in the test I did yesterday. Can only enter Daytona and wanted to use the Corvette as when this combo came up last time I somehow managed to get the 108th fastest global lap time but annoyingly ended up missing the race. in my test mustang and supra were much quicker. Supra easily clocking over 170mph (in comparison a lot of the other cars could only just about hit 165). Good luck to anyone signing with Hyundai! Didn’t do a full race practice so might be fine but it looks like some cars will have a fuel saving issue m, especially those V8s

Well this was a great start to the season.
Did some tests late last night post update and this car clicked with me right away. Plus I enjoy Brands too. (It also helps it's this week's daily.)
My first Qualy lap got me P3 and I quickly closed on some traffic ahead. I hoped the car ahead would make a mistake to get out of my way. Lo and behold they spun out of Surtees. If they are on here I apologise. I'll reign my psychic powers in next time. I only improved a little on that lap and once again found myself on the back of traffic and surprised to get a 3rd lap in. The car just ahead got Paddock too wide but not binning it but not knowing what they would do meant I lost time. In the end it was a P5 start for me.
On the grid P2 started moving early. Lights out and I get past P4 as they round the slow P2. I find myself on the inside of Paddock. There is some small contact with P2 and then they suddenly fly off into the gravel. I wasn't sure it was me but I couldn't also rule it out. Who knows what the latest physics changes could do? I was now in P2 with a mass of cars behind in the gravel. This gave me a good gap to behind which gave me room to just think about myself as I wasn't going to get near P1 who blitzed me by 2 seconds in qualy, although I held a 2 second gap to them for a few laps. I was quicker and more consistent than those behind so did the whole race by myself. Only 2 things kept me amused. Seeing P3 in Paddock as I left Druids meant I could gauge my progress until I could no longer see them as I pulled away. And then in the closing laps I lapped P11. Been a long time since I was the lapper and not the lappee. P2 is where I finished in a 20 second sandwich. A very decent 86 points to kick off the campaign.
On review of the first lap it was as I thought. About 5 accidents smashed their way into T1 lap 1 of which the car on my outside was caught up in. The only thing I may have done was nudged them into the danger zone.
Good luck to all left to race.

For controller I feel the best bind for DRS is circle. I hold circle with one side of my thumb and keep upshifting pressing X with the other side. I have to move my thumb a little between corners (my usual position to reach X and square) and straights (new position to reach X and circle), but it takes almost no effort.

Now I have handbrake on R1 and camera on R3.

As the race is at the spiritual home of the BTCC, I bought the car and went with a classic livery - the gods of touring cars smiled upon me in return.

When I loaded up the lobby (very low B in GT2) I was at the top of the standings. Never happened before but I think it means I had the quickest practice time. Knew then I had a chance of a solid result. Went out last in qualification but still found traffic. Could only manage a 19.2 which was 6 tenths off my practice time. Put me P8, leader was a 18.0 flat.

Hadn't read the regs closely so the grid start caught me by surprise. Usually try to take things carefully on the first couple of laps, let everyone else get too excited and make mistakes. It works on occasion.

Don't often find myself in first place, especially in these GTWS events. Of course I threw it away the next lap, on that same bit of grass that got the previous leader. Settled back into P2 and tried to gap the pack as P1 disappeared over the horizon. I'm usually really light in the tyres but the front left soft was absolutely shredded by the end of lap 11. Had to pit, one of the earliest but luckily managed to come out in some space.

Quickly re-inherited P2 and just tried to stay consistent to the end. P3 was always between 0.7 and 3s behind from about lap 4 onwards, kept up the pressure but I managed to keep them out of radar/divebomb distance. They made an error around lap 18 and dropped back to 4 secs. I then stupidly started to coast a bit. Big mistake, had a very sloppy lap 21 which let them and P4 (on softs now against our mediums) catch right back up. The medium-to-soft P4 got us both but I held on for a first GTWS podium (I think).

54 points happily bagged and we move on to round 2. Used TC2 in the race and TC1 for qualification - the car was still a bit wiggly on corner exits.

Nice hack, but you don’t need permanent DRS for this race.

The 2 long straights are the only place it matters.
Not sure how much difference the DRS is actually making. My fastest practice lap by far I did when ignoring it completely.
For me I found the DRS too much of a distraction. Having to adjust me hand position slightly to hold a button on corner exits was ac slowing me down.

Not done my race yet with F1 been on and falling back asleep, but in Quali I will run with DRS and in the race I’m not going to bother apart from the long straights. My laps times are virtually the same pace with or without drs

Hoping to do one of these today. Did some test laps yesterday and was struggling a bit. These Gr2 cars take some getting used to as you need to get on the throttle super early to allow the turbo to spool up to that ~25 psi.

New car, track that's not my favorite, new physics, remembering to hit DRS (every little bit helps, eh?), etc. What are the quali times you guys are seeing?

I won’t be able to play until late at night. Have to go US account 😞

What’s the strategy? 2 stints on RS and 1 lap on RM? Or is it x laps on RM and y laps on RS?

Ok boomer.
The truth hurts for cheats like you. You think the rules don't apply, because you are in some way special. The lower rated drivers will suffer because you want to cheat and take part in races you're over ranked to take part in. That is why you are the problem and not P.D. So call me want you want, at least I'm not a seal clubbing cheater like you. I know exactly who you are and I'll be reporting you accordingly.

I don't think you spamming the thread with empty threats is very constructive to the topic.

Cheating requires doing something outside of the intended game mechanics. Entering a race on a different account and having to start from lower down is an intended game mechanic, because that's how the ELO-style ranking system works.

Please do not abuse people for doing something you wouldn't do. Although, you know:

I have a few accounts.

First time driving the Audi RS5 DTM , it is a great car so i gave a shot

qualified - P10 with 1.19.4 eh i could done better if i tried but people were slow and blocking ...
race - had a quite a nice start that went from P10 to P5 , mainly because people were going off course , so i i thought i got it for the podium and i almost got it , but some nice person punted me when i was so close to gaining P3 ...
so i ended up barely in P7 😬

it would have been a great race if people actually paid attention what's happening in front of them but of course this is online GT so eh

I stuck it on L1 as I figured I would be using that or the brakes, not both together, so one finger doing the whole job. Shifting on the Edge back paddles, look back to R3, MFD on the right stick. Need more fingers.

Fun? Boring? Not sure what to make of that race really.

Quali - P13 with a 1.18.8. Not as quick as my TT times but I qualified in the door position of my lobby.

Race - My aim was 1. Keep it on the track & 2. Aim for a top 10.
So I totally forgot about tyres at the start until we had about 5 seconds left in the lobby. Started on softs and I think in the end that was the right call.
Race start I get away from the line ok. A few cars bin it in T1 and T2. Some driver behind me (in a Batman car just sends it into T1, luckily they avoided me but not a few ahead). I make a few overtakes on L2 for P11. Lap 3 2 cars ahead make contact which allows me to get P9 and then L7 I make another move in T1 for P8. L9 I make my only pit stop for the mediums and decide the 1 stop the better strategy for me. Running now in net P8 (technically) I’m able to run in free air and just do consistent laps times while managing the gap behind. L17 I make a small mistake which allowed the German behind to get on my bumper. Managed to keep ahead just but as they were on the softs they had been traction and was able to pass on T1. Few corners later I manage to gain 2 positions. P7 makes an error and the German who just past me gets caught up in P7 mistakes. Once again myself and the German have another clean battle but again I couldnt hold on. They were much quicker plus I knew if I carried on I’d end up in the barrier. Last lap the German loses it and i was up there rear but the dirty air and my mediums just didn’t have enough to pass.
I’ll take a P7 in the end and 97 points. As for the race, I found it pretty boring due to the wide field spread and the dirty air not really allowing close racing, but I did have fun battling with the German driver.

——————————

So had a thought about the whole GT1 league having less slots. So it’s clear the plan was to have less slots to make the World Tour and the other top drivers compete together in the same lobbies. Obviously this hampers those causal players who just want to race. Why don’t PD open up the same slots as GT2 & GT3 classes, but only have 3 official points scoring rounds which contribute to the GTWS Finals. If the 3pm, 5pm & 7pm are official points scoring rounds this will bring in these GTWS drivers and other drivers and will make these lobbies really competitive. All the other rounds still score points (so you can compete against friends & rivals etc…) but these points don’t count towards official rankings?

I still need to have confidence with the new physics system, which I can describe with the words of renoun philosopher Brock Lesnar "Understeer City, son of a bad mother !" 👺

I usually race really bad at Brands AND with cars like this, but in this case it went a little better than expected, even thought I managed to ruin almost everything with a massive spin in the last lap :irked:

Well that was an interesting first round in the new Nations exhibition series, to say the least. Qualifying was horrible for me, P14 and I only did a 1.19.3, probably left around 1 sec on the table. Luckily only cost me maybe 2-3 places at most. The race then, started on mediums. It was a hilariously chaotic first lap, and I took advantage of it big time, up to P8. So much happened on lap 1, so better to just demonstrate my POV what happened. Imo the race start incident was a racing incident, it happened so fast and I didn't expect the German to turn into me and in addition I had the right for that space. I guess most of the people ahead must have put more focus on quali pace, than race pace? 😁

Anyways, from there stayed in P8 for a bit, managed to keep traffic behind and then later on passed the Spaniard for P7, when he went wide. Decided to pit after lap 7 from the mediums. In hindsight that was 2 laps too late, noticed that with less fuel softs could do 9 laps, although maybe a very marginal difference. From there raced in a fairly good gap on track, so dirty air did not cost me too much. And when I ran into traffic they usually pitted and one driver just went wide too which helped. Did my second pitstop at the end of lap 15.

Rejoined the track back in P8. And I had like 1,3 sec in both directions, start of lap 16. I noticed I was slightly faster than the Italian ahead, but dirty air meant that I just could not find a way past, and I lost maybe 2-3 seconds over this stint. Eventually he did a mistake before the penultimate turn on lap 22, so I got up to P7. I noticed the Czech driver ahead had lost the view of P5, so I knew he was on worn tires, but so was I. So I drove over the finish line P7 & 156 pts.

With some better luck with traffic, a bit less fighting and pitting earlier to the softs on first stint, I feel like P6 was possible. But regardless I am pretty happy. With the new physics seems like quali is a bit of a struggle, I guess I am relearning things again, and traditionally in GTS & GT7 that has caused some inconsistency between my quali and race pace. I struggled with tire wear just a bit and mediums are pretty tricky on this track, so personally I would do a 2 stopper. Especially since pit loss is like around 8-10 seconds on this track.

Are you guys finding a 1 stop strategy best and is 2 stop not looking viable?

Imo 2 stop strategy is slightly better. Pit loss is only like 9-10 sec, and you gain that back and more on track. I'd go 9-9 laps on softs, and then 5 laps on mediums. If you are good at tire wear, then 10 & 10 laps on softs and 3 laps on mediums.

Well, that was a rollercoaster of emotions! Having ditched gt7 for quite a while I recently came back and started playing with the controller for the first time and surprisingly went from B to A during last week's online events, pretty much all of the A races I've done so far have been outside the top 10 but competitive and positive. Entering this I was expecting much the same... Much to my surprise I qualified 5th! Sadly at race start my TV popped up an update message, I false started and slipped all the way to 15th! Gutted but stuck with it and fought back all the way to 8th and after a penalty I moved up to 7th! Quite happy with that as I can't do the other 2 events this afternoon/evening!

Qualified P3 with what didn't feel like a great lap and decided to start on softs. Jumped P2 at the start and then P1 made a mistake at the start of lap 2 which allowed me through. It turns out P1 started on mediums and ended up holding up the rest of the pack (they battled quite a bit as well).
So the rest of the race was me just trying to keep it clean and hold on at the end when they came back on softs. They caught me with 4 laps to go but made a couple of mistakes behind me in the dirty air and so I managed to hold on to bring home the win.

I didn’t find enough difference between the compounds to make a 2-stopper worth it. Did 11S/12M in my one go.

11 laps on softs? Wish I could do that 😅 Did you use a more rearward brake bias? I did notice a lot of drivers doing a 1 stopper too just fine, but it is fun that 2 strategies seem to both work, so well done PD. I still think that if you struggle with tire wear, this race should be done in 2 stops 🤔

Cannot have pace with this DTM car probably I cannot put full power enough early..I will’not do this long race…
Training for Manu and trying to determine my car choice, could someone who has already chosen show the leaderboard..
Thanks

Didn’t touch the brake balance. I thought I was being hard on the tyres, only a couple of others pitted earlier than my lap 11 but maybe most started on the mediums.

2-stopper maybe slightly quicker on paper, but I wouldn’t have wanted to give up track position and have to pass on this circuit.

Here's the state of my tyres at the stop. It really was only the front left, could maybe have pushed it one more lap.
