Pretty happy with my race!!

Slot 1 Asia, all A+ lobby (with a couple of gtplanet guys including HC-Ikkatosh), with door 5 on the McLaren. Struggled in the two free practice sessions I did so I thought I’d be in for some pain here. It didn’t start well, with some mistakes in qualifying and ending up P11.

The race was a different story though, and probably my best drive in a manufacturers race! Pretty uneventful start, gaining a spot after the uphill left hander due to a better exit, but thankfully no carnage anywhere. Lap 2 I got another 2 guys who had penalties, and I think it was Ikkatosh who spun on the hairpin exit. From there I just gradually caught and passed my way up to 4th by lap 10, and closed the gap to 2nd and 3rd from 4 seconds down to under a second on lap 18 by driving mistake free (I don’t think I managed 3 laps without a penalty in free practice!). I thought I had them covered, but I ran it a pixel or two wide on the uphill left and copped the 0.5 penalty.

4th place finish, 221 points to go with my 233 from round 1. Definitely my best start to a manufacturers series so far!

I did 2 races for this round at Road Atlanta. My first race was a disaster with a terrible qualifying time, and a terrible race made worse when my pedals disconnected from the wheel where it plugs in and I was forced to quit. Not a fun way to start the day.

So, I just went in the 6:00pm slot in the Americas GT2 and had another terrible qualifying session. Down in P12 to start. I then make a move on the inside of the final turn and catch the grass and fall to dead last on the second lap. Well, I keep going and eventually finish P8 which is a miracle in itself with my pedals begining to act up in the final laps. I don't know how I hung on to P8 honestly but I'll take any decent results at this point.

So, I need to clean my pedals apparently and hope that does the trick. And, not break them in the process. Not the start I was hoping for this season, but I I'll keep trying and see what happens.

Meh…

Couldn’t hook up a lap for qualifying. I think in free practice, we must be running no fuel, because I was routinely able to hook up mid 1:25’s, but in qualifying, I can’t seem to break into them.

Regardless, the race started off pretty scruffy. Lots of pin-balling, lots of people getting dived. Got bumped back to 8th place. Made some passes, was the benefactor of some penalties. Started rolling coal towards the end as all the Silvia’s and GTR’s tires went off.

Made a beautiful drafting pass On the last lap down the long stretch before that hard braking zone going into the slow chicane. I went middle of the road to defend. He dived me and would have knocked me off the apex had I not given him a ton of space, reclaiming 2nd. I think I’m going to settle for 3rd and take my points. Don’t see me getting bumped into a lobby where it’ll be worth it, being that I got 154 points for 3rd in my lobby, and first got 163.

Nail-biter race though, had fun 👍🏼

just tried again and this lobby once again proves that DR does not equal pace. I wore #1 but I knew a few racers here and it would be a close contest. The lobby was worth about 20 pts less than this morning. I didn't qualify very well, about a half second slower than the morning (coffee!) and was P14. yikes.

But what really chapped me was someone who q'd in the top 2 or 3, chats, 'im going last' and pulls over at the start to let everyone pass. A couple laps later, guess who he pushes wide in the final corner? And then a couple laps after that I see him sideways after the esses and he quits. If you are going to pull off those kinds of stunts, you need to drive better and you'd better make it stick or you're just a clown. (had to get that off my chest)

Anyway, P11, dropped 20 pts from what I had. Maybe another try after dinner, maybe not.

Oh yeah, @Talon16 won, I never saw him on track, too fast for me. Congratulations!
Thanks, was good seeing you in the lobby. I was pulling for you!

I really like this combo. Usually not a fan of the Gr4 cars but they work really well here. This track suits them well (and vice-versa). Did three of these today and had a good time in all of them. Less the second one when I spun going onto the back straight while leading and dropped down to P7. Made it back to P5 but in all three races that was really my only mistake. No other spins, offs, or even pens.

Still in the AMG (dugh!) and I really like this car. It drives really well, but it's a slug on the straights. I didn't realize how bad it was until I would lose .500" to a McLaren and was in the tow of a Supra and not gaining.

Anyway, a very fun combo. I really enjoyed the starting at dawn and having the sun come up as the race was going on; that was really cool. Wish there was some strat but even though it was a glorified Daily C, it was still quite fun.

Did one race today. GT2 DR B.

Nearly didnt as GR.4 is boring me, but thats my fault for doing the daily races for the past 2 weeks in the same category when I had time. (Daytona is one of my fave tracks but this weeks race there has been a boring slog when i have entered).

Despite my failure at Catyluna on Wednesday, a track I cannot stand and a race I shouldnt have entered in the first place due to my incompetance there, I was suprised and pleased with a 4th place finish at Road Atlanta today. Managed to jump from 11th to 6th on the last quali lap which was white knuckle for me.

They really need to implement a quick quali session for one of the daily races. It makes it so much more interesting. I havent done GTWS before this season but will carry on for this reason, if I get time from real life.

However, I will never not get annoyed with other human beings for only trying to overtake at the worst possible places when there is massive long back straight to do it cleanly, simply and fairly. Also, there's 15 laps. Why try every stupid move on the first?

A rant as long as time itself, I know...

Barely made the last slot NA GT1 today and definitely another tough one for me. 1 GTP member I recognized on the grid @neverthesamecar was in there too.

Qualified almost a second slower than my practice laps even pre race practice was .7 faster but couldn’t get it put together.

Started p11 was as high as p8 and kept slipping backwards til the end finishing p13.
Even lost another place just before the line. Earned 99 points today for the p13 finish. My back of the pack performances for the first two rounds needs improvement or I’ll be demoted again before the series ends 🙄

I was wondering what participation numbers were like, so I checked the EMEA leaderboards. Pretty much right around 10,000 signups total in the region once you account for people who have scored 0 and thus might not have raced. The full split is roughly 1,400 GT1/3,300 GT2/5,900 GT3. More than I expected in the lower categories to be honest.

Edit: Doing the maths, this means GT1 has at least 15 splits. And that's only if everyone only entered 1 of the 6 slots so far so it's almost certainly a fair bit more than that.

Was planning on 1 shot yesterday. GT2 league B/S. 650s

Put a fair bit of practice into the race and it paid off in quali. Stuck it on pole in my first race at 1pm. Couple of cars behind though had more consistant race pace. I didn't battle them when they came through to save overall race time. I was happy to settle for a top 3 finish. Lap 10 though I get the line wrong on the last corner and run a little wide on the straight and 'ride' the curb which takes me into the grass on the outside of turn 1. So annoyed with myself and come home 8th.

That was gonna be it for the day but the sunshine and afternoon margarita sent the other half for a snooze so I jumped on the 5pm slot. This time quali didn't go so well and started 5th. Door number 10 mind you.

Race was rather dull from my position. Made up spot up to 4th and was cruising. 4th then went wide and send him down the pack. Happy with my 3rd after nearly binning it again with 3 laps to go on that sodding grass/curb on the home straight. Entering the final lap with 2nd 6 secs up the road. Suddenly i see yellows and a ghosting Supra on the left of turn 3. 2nd had crashed moving me up to my final finishing space. 73 points and that me done for this round. Wont be doing the the ring so Sardegna is next up for me.

I've been doing some practice for Wednesday, thought I'd share my findings in case anyone's not going to get much preparation time considering how long and difficult this round is going to be.

EDIT - UPDATED AFTER DOING ANOTHER FULL-LENGTH GT1 TEST

GT2/3

Fuel and tyres are not an issue for you at all - just survive the 3 laps and deal with whatever weather comes your way.

GT1
Refuelling will be required. On the Mercedes side, I found the 2020 AMG was able to do about 4.7-4.8 laps just driving normally and shifting up when the lights on the dashboard started flashing. The 2011 SLS can do about 5.2-5.3, although I didn't quite rev that one out as much. If your car is slightly under a lap cutoff, a little bit of fuel saving to stretch up to it could give you valuable options considering dynamic weather is in play.

If you end up with a completely dry race, change your tyres at the pit stop. The tyres can last the whole distance but it's very likely to be quite a bit slower unless you're extremely good at tyre saving. I just tried a run with one set of tyres and laps 6/7 were a nightmare. Lap 7 alone was more than 7 seconds slower than my fastest lap earlier in the race, and I didn't make any mistakes. It was just that rough.

On my 2020 AMG run, I did 4/3 with a change of tyres. On my 2011 SLS run I did 5/2 with no change of tyres.

When I came into the pits at the end of lap 4 with the AMG, my tyres and fuel looked like this:

Note - I use a wheel, so pad players might find things a bit worse.

For comparison with the SLS, to show how bad the tyre wear can get:

Not the best, not the worst. 272 points I can't complain at all about! This time I was in a higher split than last week, but managed to do a decent qualy and race, to cross the line P6. Good banker points that will allow me to push for more later in the season!

Saw @Geauxgreddy in the lobby but unfortunately his Alfa has a GP2 engine. Maybe one day we'll actually race each other lol.

I saw you up there dealing moves with the fast guys! Well done my good man, well done. You couldve tossed me a tow rope though. Help a brother out! 🤣😭

I had to go twice in hopes of taking advantage of others errors rather than accomplishing on track heroics to get points. My 2nd race I had @GTWolverine pressuring me from behind. Didnt see what happened to cause him to fall back. Forgot to save the post race replay. Somehow I managed a top 10 in the last slot and pulled 250 miracle points.

Always good to see you and Equus in the lobby @Spider-Racer !!

Thanks for that info, @Zorz !

I started doing some Nord laps on my three accounts' manufacturers (Toyota, AMG, McLaren respectfully). Nothing to the detail Zorz did, but just some TT laps. I did like three laps in each car. In the limited laps, in my hands:

Toyota - 7:58.8X
AMG - 8:02.0X
McLaren - 7:59.2X

The AMG felt really good around the track but it's just a dog on the straights. I don't remember the exact numbers but pretty sure it was slower than the McLaren. The McLaren actually surprised me as it's got some decent top end and less than .500" behind my Supra time. But the McLaren has very good tire wear (to the Supra's horrible tire wear) and good on fuel as well. This car will be strong IMO.

All that being said, this might be a BRZ show. It's good at everything! Currently on top of the leader-board and after watching a replay I just couldn't believe how late they were braking; and it has legs on the straights too.

I got my pedal problem fixed. I sprayed contact cleaner on each potentiometer and that solved my issues. I also blew out all the dust and such that had accumulated inside the cover. So, clean your pedals and don't be me!

I forgot to mention that driving the McLaren at Road Atlanta felt awesome. It felt like it was planted in the corners. I had so much exit speed that helped me climb through the field yesterday. It was an absolute joy to drive around there. I'm hoping that I can get back on track now that my pedal problem is fixed. But, it is the Nordschleife with random weather so who knows what will happen.

Delayed post because I was watching Le Mans (go Corvette Racing!)

I had a feeling this race would go terribly given that this is a handling track and I'm driving a barge (not the the Corvette is great at high-speed tracks either...), but given how most of the schedule suits neither me nor my Corvette, I figured I needed to get points where I could (and I was already gonna skip Catalunya and Sardegna).

Slot 1: Forgot to adjust my brake bias during qualifying AGAIN, which gave me a slow first hot lap and a penalty on my 2nd hot lap. Didn't get a 3rd hot lap in. Started DFL but slowly made my way through the field, mostly due to mistakes. I caught an Evo that had clearly burned up his tires in the final 3 laps, but it still had too much acceleration onto the back straight able to overtake. Instead it bunched up me and 3 other cars and in the end I finished 11th in a 4-car train from 10th to 13th. It was less than 200 points so it was obvious I needed to go again.

Slot 2: Qualified in 12th and was eyeing a minimum of 10th to get at least 200 points. My race unraveled IMMEDIATELY at the start. The NSX 2 spots in front of me predictably didn't get a good start and blocked the Cayman that was between us. That gave me a good run into T1 and I had too much pace to just back out and give it away, so I took it 3-wide. The NSX turned down on both me and the Cayman which forced me across the grass at the inside of the turn and gave me a 0.5s penalty. The Porsche then switched sides of the track and was now on my inside with me in the middle as he headed to T2, and he just BARELY tagged my right rear, which put me into a tank-slapper and caused me to run wide at the top of the hill and force a McLaren off the track. I probably didn't have to, but I waited for the McLaren, which put me a distant 16th. From there I only made up spots when other people crashed or spun and finished P14 (I think - didn't save the replay and forgot my exact finishing position).

Slot 3: Qualified P13 and was once again eyeing P10. I moved up to P12 on Lap 2 when someone got forced off at T1, and by Lap 5 thanks so some fighting and shuffling, I caught up to the train that @Geauxgreddy was leading. I was stuck as the caboose on the train until Lap 9 when P11 had a moment at the end of Sector 1, allowing me to go up the inside of the double right-handers before the back straight. Then on Lap 11 one of the cars battling for the lead disconnected and moved me up into P10. By Lap 12 I'd somehow run @Geauxgreddy's little speedboat down in my supertanker , and we both moved up a spot when the Cayman that had been pressuring him earlier got a penalty. I was all over Greddy for several laps, but could never get quite close enough when I needed to as his Alfa could pull away in the corners just enough to keep me from having a look at the end of the straights. Then on Lap 16 I was re-passed by the Cayman, which opened the door for a McLaren (the same one I accidentally pushed off in the previous slot) and he took another spot from me into T1 on Lap 17 and moved me back to P11. That almost immediately became P10 again when a Viper lost it in the esses. All the cars that passed me then pulled away, and the Viper caught and passed me around the outside of T1 on Lap 19 and dump me back down to P11. The Viper then ran wide at the final corner in the esses and picked up a penalty on the final lap, which once again gave me P10 at the finish for 208 points (holding off both another Alfa and the Viper at the line), which I hopefully will be able to drop at the end of the season.

I've be pleasantly surprised by the McLaren so far. Its the first time I have really driven it. Always had a fear of MR cars for some reason. Very stable but hit a big curb and you certainly know about it.

No idea what the Gr3 is like. I really need to put some time into that this week.

The Gr3 can be a big sluggish out of the corners at certain speeds, but overall pretty good. Planted rear end (much more so than my murderous Ferrari), decent top speed.

Amsterdam promo is out:

At 0:33 there's a shot of Deep Forest turn 4 in the rain. I know we've had a promo shot of wet Deep Forest in one of these before, but I don't remember if it was this exact clip and they're re-using it or if this is a second version.

That is 100% rain in Deep Forest which i haven't seen before , so eventually it has to release to the public
The first wet track is definitely Spa (you can see the track map). The second wet track is harder to tell. I'm not quite as confident as you it's DF, but I'd be down if it was.

Ah this is so annoying with these new split rules.

Last 2 races GT2/3 has been a straight out flat out sprint for the finish, and going by your info, it sounds like R3 will be the same just with some weather to manage.

GT1, I saw a few drivers in the first 2 rounds having to manage tyres and actually running with no tyres towards the end at Catalunya, and again a similar thing at Road Atlanta.
R3 for GT1 sounds like fun with all the variables.
Looking after tyres, fuel, weather and just staying on the track. Sounds like you want to be running as long as you can before any rain/weather comes, as you don’t want an unnecessary pit.
Well that’s the issue right there. Based on past experience, I don’t think I can survive 3 laps against human opponents.
Haha yeah same here. Just surviving on your own is challenge, but adding in others just even harder.

Still not sure if I will be entering this round…

I used the LM Race last time we visited the ring. It was fast enough to keep up with the Supras down the long straight.

FWIW - I've picked Ford a couple times for Manu as their lineup is quite good, IMO. At least in Gr3. Heck, even Digit picked Ford this time around (he was trying to avoid the normal METAs). Now, I have not tested the Mustang around Nord (and the last patch Nerf'ed it some) but I like the GT LM II. It's very fast on the straights - just as fast as the Supra. But, unlike the Supra, the rear end is very planted. It does drink fuel, so if you're in GT1 keep that in mind. It does have gobs of torque, though, so you can short shift to save fuel and still be good.

Last Manu we did this exact same course and my Supra time was faster than my Ford time. But, it's a good all around car and I've been preaching it for a long time now. Diamond in the rough, IMO.

ETA - I took a video of me driving passed a Porsche like it was nothing to show the LM II has some great top end.
