i want to see trulli, kimi, or MS come out on top this race. alonso's gonna take it in the mouth tommorow. he has to.

no doubt, it will be competative, though. i'm just in love with this season. except for the fact that alonso's won everything so far. hahaha.

The thing about this season is that the new aero makes it hard for people to get close enough to overtake, though Michael made a mess of that theory.

Just thought I'd mention it- Barrachello will incur a 10 spot penalty as well as Heidfeild, both for engine changes. So ATM they are down to 19th and 15th (for now of course).

He overtook Button when he was held up by the Williams, but I don't think he overtook anyone else on the track.

But that was because of the track, not the aero kits. The point is he was close enough of Alonso and Button, if it was a easier track to overtake he certainly would.

Journalists usually say the wrong thing or come to the wrong conclusions.

Also, during an interview about a week ago, Alonso (yeah, they interview him everyday here) said among other things that the new F2005 is "abnormally fast", and that "Ferrari's victories this year will be mined by their lack of support for the other teams, especially when they are practising double what the rest of the teams are; and that I could be as good as Schumi if I got to practice as much as he does..." Strong words, really. He also said that now he's getting all the coverage because he's the best driver on the paddock (his words, not mine), but a year or two ago, no one gave a buck for him while he was battling for fourth places.

Still, it's hard to root for another team (McLaren in my case) when all you see is Alonso. During the post-qualifying interviews this morning, when Alonso spoke, they let him speak, but when Trulli or Kimi were talking, they'd just go back to the "key moments" of Alonso and his flying lap. Still, you have to understand this is the first Spanish driver to be on top in F1, ever.

All in all, I think the best thing that could happen to Alonso and Renault this race is that they lost... make them come down to the real world for a bit. In the same way, give me a Kimi victory... and let de la Rosa race, since apparently Montoya is still hurt.

Lastyly, VashTheStampede, Alonso is from a place called Asturias... think "cow town", and from that place to Barcelona, no less than 500 buses have left carrying what could be all the population of the place. Still, the Canary Islands is pretty far from mainland Spain, sadly. We're 100 nautical miles off the coast of Morocco , or a 2,5 hour plane ride from Barcelona.

Should be a good race, but i am at a snooker tournament, get the video recorder working then!

You really can't imagine what's going here in Spain. This weekend is being like an 8.5 richter's scale earthquake. This is having much more expect than Rainiero's death (saying Pope's death would be too much  ). And I'm not joking. If Alonso wins tomorrow, this Monday will be a national party. I want Alonso winning really BAD. Because if he has to win any GP more, has to be THIS ONE.

Er...

Go alonso :D

darkfinal, think of it... no other Spanish racer has ever won a race before... and now Alonso is in Spain... and he's first in the championship... and tomorrow, after the race he will still be first, no matter what. Anddd.... he breaks the engine in lap 4

hee hee... just not into the Alonsomania... go Kimi!

As FatAssBR said, the point is not that he overtook Button, but that he was able to get nice and close to Alonso and sit on his tail for many laps.

I'm hopeing for a Kimi or Trulli victory, and hopefully not a Michael whitewash, though I don't think temps are right for Bridgestones.

Also I just read this, it's a press conference with Max and if you have the patience to read through it you really should. 👍

Wow, look the the grid:

  1. K. Raikkonen
  2. M. Webber
  3. F. Alonso
  4. R. Schumacher
  5. J. Trulli
  6. G. Fisichella
  7. J. Montoya
  8. M. Schumacher
  9. D. Coulthard
  10. F. Massa
  11. V. Luizzi
  12. J. Villenueve
  13. N. Karthikeyan
  14. T. Monteiro
  15. C. Albers
  16. P. Friesacher
  17. N. Heidfeld
  18. R. Barrichello

Tiago stopped after his lap with what looked like an engine failure so i think he'll be starting from the back.

Go Kimi, go Webber! :D

Australians all let us rejoice, for we are young and free......

What a lap for webber could be on a light fuel load though. An almost perfect front row for me (perfect would be 1.webber 2.raikkonen 20.Schumacher). Lets hope webber can hold it together in the race now. I also think the toyotas will be slightly heavier and so will the ferraris.

This is going to be and awesome race, only 3 hours to go!

edit:Cant you be bothered posting the picture of the results anymore Blake? :)

I hope the car is better over the race distance now than it was at Imol, it looked horrid to drive.

You know my attitude isn't alonsomaniac... I was a Kimi full fan before Alonso got into Renault... now I'm fan both of them.

Afortunately, I can watch the F1 races through TV3 (catalan TV), so I don't have to hear those ultra-nacionalists of T5 (only alonso, always alonso...). For T5, the only men in F1 are Alonso and MS, no more, the rest don't exist. ****.

Now they're running GP2. Thats really fun.

edit: nevermind. my bad.

If you don't want to know, don't visit a thread that's called "Grand Premio de Espania 2005" after the 2nd qualifying has happened.

Omnis
dude, that's from the 2nd qualifying? there goes the suprise.
What surprise? Did you mean you were going to watch it? If so, then why do you come here? I don't get what you said either.

Yeah, I never want to know the results of the race before I've seen it so I leave GTP when the race begins.....it's fairly obvious that their will be "spoilers" in this thread.

Blake

I know exactly what you mean, darkfinal. I'm doomed to watch Telecinco anyway, and of course, they're only showing Alonso and Michael; Kimi was standing next to Schumi so we got a glimpse at him. However, the news is that this race is really a duel between Alonso and Schumi... :yuck: The other 16 cars on the grid are just background noise... bad moment to be a McLaren fan :indiff: Plus, the royalty announced that the princess is pregnant, and the king (of Spain) is at the race... let's stop all the race coverage and ask the king what he thinks of it... dammit

Well, off to watch the race

well, gosh. nobody got that one.

qualifying doesn't concern me too much. it's the race that counts. i'll not be coming back to this thread until derek daly finishes his blabbering on cbs.

till then, happy mother's day, guys.

Interesting race. Not nearly as exciting as San Marino, but interesting nonetheless. Kimi's pace was certainly frightening, eventhough Alonso was having issues with one of his rear tires apparently. But, the Renault can keep pace with the McLaren if the driver decides to push the car fast enough, seeing how Fisi ran the fastest lap on his final lap. Monaco is certainly going to be interesting, Schumacher is really going to need a stellar weekend if he hopes to stay competitive.

First non-first place finish for Renault. Kimi was awesome. His bad luck is gone. Alonso did great but you can sense something was off. Toyota was very impressive. Third and fourth places will give them great constructor points. Fischy pulls in fifth place away from that hump Webber who did the most classless move I've ever seen in a F1 race in a long time. Blocking at over 200MPH like he did was not only stupid and unprofessional, it was completely lacking of respect for fellow drivers and their safety. There were great team battles going on during the entire race and it was fantastic to watch. The race was a smooth running race with not great moments that stand out, but was still a delight to watch. Monacco is next, and I'm already restless.

Confident and safe drive from Kimi.

Alono really lost it at the restart (from SC) where he seemed to be caught off guard.

Toyota had a great day, nice to see them getting both drivers competitive.

Schumacher, what a joke. First one tire and then the other right after, even with all those extra testing hours bridgeston is failing.

Both Minardis messing up, the programmers should be shot.

Not the most eventful race, but a well deserved win for Kimi. If this is the pace of the McLaren for the rest of the season...

Could be nice!
