You're 100% right. PD is doing something incredibly noble now by keeping as far away from the EA "****** games make a lot of money" model as possible. They're following the Japanese "make good games" model. They resisted Sonys' plans for a profitable GT so far (remember GTHD/Premium and microtransactions... dodged a bullet there...) and we can only hope they keep it up.
I'm sorry but Gran Turismo is the biggest selling racing game in history. A $1billion+ franchise, bigger than Halo. And Sonys track record is of making high cost blockbuster games. Micro transactions are a formality for the whole industry i'm afraid.

Microsoft keep copying Sonys games. The singstar, buzz clones the camera etc. And Forza being a direct clone of Gran Turismo. If there wasnt a Gran Turismo there'd be no Forza. You can bet you're bottom dollar that if Polyphony Digital had a constant stream of info most of that stuff would be copied by Forza.
I think this is exactly right. Forza is referred to by some non-fans as "Gran Forizmo," and the similarity between them is painfully obvious to anyone.

To be honest I enjoyed Need For speed until it got to the Ps2 (Hot Pursuit 2), Underground 1 was great fun though played it one whole night with a cousin ;) and did about 90% during the night the same way we did our enduro's in GT3 ahhh the good old days.
I enjoyed High Stakes (NFS 4) the most though followed by III and porsche.

That makes sense, but there is no reason PD couldn't have shown some new screenies of generic cars and maybe a generic GT track (R31 skyline or AE86 on trial mountain for example)

News didn't have to be groundbreaking just something for us to chew on. But whatever the case it is different to how they handled GT4, which is what my point in that post was.

I hear you - I'll be fine with paying a little here and there for some extra content, just the way it is now.

But do you recall the original concept for I think Gran Turismo HD? It was something like: a base game for $20 that came with a few tracks and cars (basically GT5P) and then any new tracks, cars and features from then on would be purchased through microtransactions, forever. I think it was IGN who figured out that based on the Sony/PD press release, a full game with all cars and tracks would cost on the order of $700.

Anyhow, PD soon thereafter revised their product strategy and focused of GT5, yay.

I know EA have had a half decent track record to date, but NFS Undercover sucked from what I heard.

I played the pc version to about the half way and then just stopped because i got,my friend finished it but also didn't like it.
We both agree that the best one was most wanted.

Clearly the best was NFS 1 (ok it's my opinion), point to point country road, interior views, great burnouts, couldn't go wrong. :)

Back in the day when a NFS title was my favorite game, now I shudder if I was to say that (hope NFS shift turns that around)

NFS was the best game... then Gran Turismo came. I liked NFS2 the most... I would use cheats to drive as a super fast snow-plow truck that was absolutely unstoppable and ram traffic into oblivion.

There was nothing funnier than seeing a school bus tumbling end-over-end down a mountain road at ~150mph hit a Citroen 2CV like a bat hitting a baseball.
