Gravel: New Off-Road Racer Coming to PS4, XB1 & PC Early 2018

Okay, I've encountered a game-breaking bug aaand now I've had a change of heart.

The game has loaded me in the middle of nowhere and I'm stuck until I use the rewind feature. Even then, the game doesn't register my track position so I can't even catch the opponent in my invisible truck. Also, that's the first head-to-head race, which I kinda need to complete to progress in the off-road masters. :grumpy:👎

I had something similar happen to me in the first head to head, second track, the Double Oval.

Upon entering, the camera was looking rearward, pressing the Look Behind button did nothing. Restarting the race didn't fix it.
I just cycled through the views and it fixed the problem.

Definitely a bit more polish needed. And they really need to fix HDR on PS4

How does this game feel compared to DiRT 4 and Forza Horizon 3?

I’m not expecting anything the likes of DiRT Rally from this but if it’s reasonably good to drive I may give it a go.

Also, some Xbox questions:
  • Does the game make use of the vibrating triggers on an Xbox One controller?
  • What are the Xbox One X enhancements like (resolution, frame rate, extra visual details, LOD etc.)?
  • Are there any notable bugs or glitches showing up at the moment, and how stable are the multiplayer servers?

Game also bugged out on me in the same race. It got stuck on four laps and wouldn't end. Restarting the race solved it.

The water seems like quite gloopy. Not a single splash?

  • I'm not usually one to pick up on the detail that has gone into vibrations but I don't think it has the same level of depth as a Forza Motorsport game.
  • As far as I can tell, only the textures look crisp on the One X. frame rate hovers around the 25fps mark (a bit juddery, but still playable.)
  • In terms of bugs, look at the top of the page for the most significant one I have encountered. I've also had the game hang for a few seconds when travelling at speed in a Mini Countryman.

Right now, I definitely prefer the other two titles you've mentioned. I'm just feeling kinda burned for spending £60 on this game, but I'll give it a few days for some of the issues to be ironed out.

Nothing like Dirt 4, this is completely arcade, but it's very good fun, and quite a challenge actually, the AI is pretty difficult.

It's no where near FH3, that game is amazing!!

As for your Xbox questions, I can't answer, I'm using a PS4 Pro. But it does lovely on the Pro in 4K. Car models aren't amazing, but still pretty good.

Glitches wise, I'm came across a couple.
Game stuck at looking behind, although cycling views fixed it.
Sometimes, not all the time though, looking behind drops the volume of your car considerabley, again cycling views fixes it.

Car volumes in general could do with a revamp, yours is low compared to surrounding other cars.

Given that it's an arcade title it's actually very good, a more than reasonable amount of detail and some good weight to it (it's not anything like as limp as Driveclub is with a wheel), it also supports a h pattern shifter and clutch.

It gets my vote for some of the oddest things said in a racing game, this is my favorite so far:

My guy sounds different. Less enthusiasm

Is there gonna be a GTPlanet review? Scores are not looking good according to Metacritic: 71 based on 9 critics so far.

Not really comparable to forza horizon imo. Doesn’t make use of the impulse triggers however the vibration feedback is good.

If I had to compare it to anything from my experience so far, I’m thinking Dirt 2 combined with Driveclub.

Played for 3hrs now and the game crashed.

Took all the assists off at the very start. Some cars and tracks are challenging and some are not. It's not an easy game though. I have trouble beating medium AI on some tracks.

FFB on is awesome on T500.. My hands are sore from fingertips to shoulders :D

Like many said, a little polish is what this game needs. On a regular PS4 the graphics are not that special but you get used to them pretty quickly. Night+rain enviroment needs work. Almost impossible to see anything.. My tv panel is nothing special so that might contribute to that.

Engine sound is way too low and feels somewhat disconnected from gameplay..

Honestly, maybe not worth the full price of the game. Haven't tried online racing yet though..

Some racing games are games and some can become a hobby.. I don't think this fits in the hobby category but it sure is fun for now.

Well after a few hours on PC i'm enjoying it. It runs great on PC too, i'm getting a near solid 60fps with everything cranked to ultra. I have had to invest in an Xbox one controller since the game doesn't like using a DS4 with ds4tool. It can't make its mind up if its an xbox controller or a wheel so its impossible to use photomode as for some strange reason you can't use that when you have a wheel(I don't have a wheel but the game sees my DS4 as a wheel) connected?

The initial impressions from Team VVV seem solid. They seemed impressed by the graphics, variety of vehicles and the surprisingly decent wheel FFB.

I probably will buy it even though I need another racing game as much as I need a hole in my head. :guilty:
Team VVV tend to be reasonable with reviews, not going with the apparent trend of snarkiness seen elsewhere. I'm interested to see the improvements UE4 bring the team now that they've had a decent amount of time to play around with it.

I have to say, on the Xbox one X it’s not exactly unattractive. Has some moment where it looks terrific. Granted it’s not forza but it probably has about 1 tenth of the budget so it’s bot bad going. Milestone are in their infancy with UE4 so I’m excited to see where they take it. A new rally evo would be great.

There's a demo on Steam too. Tried it, looks beautiful, has fun arcade handling and a great car list. Definitely getting it later this week. I just wish they had a licensed soundtrack like in the Gamescom trailer.

May I ask if HDR is available on the PC version?
It should be on the PS4 version, but can't be found anywhere.
Cheers

Just watched mr @Scaff `s video...hmmm I was thinking of getting this, maybe not now..
Not being able to watch the video myself (while at work), what made you decide against the game? I've already got the game, so no turning back, but the reviews seem to be mixed about this game.

Played the demo today, deleted it after 2min. Was watching a gameplay video, was looking good and the guy sayd something like it feels good on wheel blabla its like forza horizon blalbla. Thx god there is a demo you can try first.

Dont be an idiot and pay 70€ on psn for this.
