Gravel: New Off-Road Racer Coming to PS4, XB1 & PC Early 2018

New gameplay video:

On one hand, I love how certain courses like this one has an almost-perfect width (same for rallycross and stadium offroad racing). Passing is doable but you have to earn it.
On the other hand, I ****ing hate how many other courses have 60ft-wide gravel roads and, the worst of all, freeride areas.

If professional offroad racing has taught us anything is that freeriding is incredibly dangerous unless you are on all-sand areas (if there is dirt, vegetation is likely to grow and destroy your vehicle) and dried lakes. Freeriding in a car always looks so stupid.

A lot of the desert races you can make your own lines and find your own way. Just google BAJA 1000. Of course, you need to hit your check points

looks good but I have a feeling they are not showing in-car gameplay for a reason

They have been showing it in the developer diaries last year.

Cockpit view, bonnet cam and no cam + full rear view option. Whether they keep all these in the full game? I hope they do, it gives more options on the difficult tracks. I found these screen shots from an old post 👍

I'm liking the attention to detail in the damage model, the rear bumper catches onto the wheel of the AI cars at 0:37 and 0:45.

THINGS I LIKE SO FAR
· Physics: not stupidly realistic, not stupidly arcade-y
· Car selection: the love they give to trophy trucks and FIA T1 cross-country cars is worth mentioning. If only there were FIA T4 cross-country trucks (Kamaz, Iveco, Man...) and maybe some smaller North American desert vehicles like Class1/2-1600 and others.
· Some courses: some are tight, not too wide, the scaling of some stadium races almost seems 1:1

THINGS I DISLIKE SO FAR
· Too many reflections and way too strong: reminds me of some "edgy" games by Codemasters
· Some other courses: I'm talking about the retardedly fast and wide ones
· HOW THE **** CAN YOU MAKE A RACE IN THE LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL COLISEUM AND NOT MAKE IT GO UNDER THE ARCHES!? SHAME ON YOU!

I was watching the MotoX game ( go pro replay cam looks amazing btw) video by milestone on that channel and is has a really good track maker. They should add that to Gravel for the stadiums.

Okay, now I figured out what the game is missing - dialogue. A game with characters and a story could really do with an announcer discussing the performance of the player or at least the star driver making comments during the race.

Obviously there could be an option to turn it off for those who don't like it, but it would really help make the game feel more alive imo.

New preview by GameIt.es (Spanish)

From what I've understood:
- Lots of variety and fun;
- You can gain XP and stars for each race (up to 3) to level up and unlock cars;
- A few technical issues here and there;
- Rewind button;
- Difficulty options and driving assists to suit everyone's tastes;
- Tuning (suspension, brakes, gearbox, differential etc.).

This is what it reminds me of and why I'm looking forward to it. Me and my mate played this from 9PM on a Friday straight through to 10AM Saturday. We had work that morning. I wonder if our workmates missed us!

[RALLYCROSS (PSX) VIDEO]

Was such a cracking game.
The sequel had a much better stadiumcross layout.

Please jump to 109:40 if it does not work right away.

Rally Cross 2 doesn't stick in my mind for some reason. Probably didn't play it much, can't remember if it was just because I thought it wasn't as good as the first one ( I vaguely remember something like this now ) Glad someone else is familiar with the title.

The sequel is objectively better than the original. They improved graphics and physics (not by much though, physics are still abysmal even by PSX arcade racing standards), there were a lot more tracks, new surfaces, tuning and so on... but I guess you probably spent a lot more hours with the original one. I kinda feel GRAVEL is going to be some kind of spiritual successor of the likes of Rallycross 1 & 2 and a couple more games.

I for sure spent more time with the first one.
