Yep! SONY is getting hosed in this. Speed had a lot more coverage and attention focused on the drivers.

Dhani did ok. Not great, not bad, just neutral and not trying to have the camera on him and his boobs & butt.

SPEED may not be around much longer though.

If SPEED had more international auto racing on I would have that channel on much more often.

Well we met the producerJeff Zwart in San Diego at finals. He made it sound like it was going to be much better than it was last year. So far I'm kind of disappointed after what we were told from Jeff. May need to shoot him a message lol. The half hour crammed way too much and they went through eliminations way quick. Hopefully it slows down a little.

Very surprised its only half hour, our shows last year were already missing a lot of stuff.

It also seems like the eliminations were also based on much fewer challenges than ours were, unless they did a lot of other things in between that were not mentioned.

Glad they didn't eliminate Nick for the helmet strap thing, that would have been in bad form I think. If they really felt it was that important safety wise, I would think the instructors wouldn't have let any driver out of the pits until all safety items were in place.

It wasn't just the safety issue with the helmet although that was part of it. It was that Nick put on the helmet "too fast" and thus got to a bike before another competitor (who took the time to do it right) that was eliminated at that stage. The theory being had he took the time to put on the strap properly maybe someone else would have beat him to the bike. No idea if that was really possible or not, but that's what they explained later in the show.

Pardon my asking (I'm new here obviously) but which finalist were you? Feel free to PM me the answer. :-) Anyway I agree with you 100% - the challenge ENCOURAGED the drivers to hurry the hell up and I can't fault Nick about the helmet strap with it being "Day 1" and all. I take it from what the judges said that they spoke him about the strap off camera/final edit - at least I think so because the episode was paced so quickly.

Full episode is on youtube (I guess it's the same episode?)

I actually found it more enjoyable than the EU program if I'm honest!

Yup, it's the same :)...and high five for your comment, haha!

:P, well I always see people complaining about time, everyone can make time with a bit of effort =D! I did enjoy the episode, the EU ones I find are to short. I think a little more effort on the characters in the program and I think you have a hit show there :D!

I think they'll start doing better as the number of participants gets smaller.

It appears they are... actually not bad for a reality show. They're avoiding the "rose ceremony" nonsense and just cutting people on the spot.

I literally did not get to finish that meal I was very much looking forward to eating after a LONG day of activity x)

How many of you GT Academy finalists will be in Austin for the the US Grand Prix this weekend?

I'm laying the groundwork for a GTP get-together and viewing party of this week's episode at a bar near downtown Austin Thursday night and it would be great to know if any of you can make it. 👍

I'm gonna be there on Thursday night so that will be a lot of fun.

Stephen Diem, Jeff Stuart, and Nick Barbato are all gonna attend the race, although I know Jeff's not gonna be there till Saturday IIRC. Not sure what day Stephen or Nick's gonna arrive.

Which section are you guys going to be in? Shame I didn't buy tickets as I was scheduled to be out of town and now that trip has been cancelled.

I bought tickets for my brother and dad so we're rolling stone cold in general admission.

Jeff's in T12, Nick's in T11 stands and Diem's got VIP tickets with a pitpass.
