I'd prefer a competition that required cockpit view, after all you do drive from the cockpit in a real race car.

P.S. I really like the addition of the cones - never touched one (in cockpit view) :)

While I understand your reasoning, cockpit view in GT5 is just nowhere near the same as your view is very limited. In any case, most fast people will be fast no matter the view.

Agreed; since I am too old and out of shape to actually race for real - I enjoy the more immersive view.

I would not want to be the first GT academy heart attack :)

Will the finalists be using a Thrustmaster wheel, or the DFGT in 2012?

No idea. We used the DFGT last year at the National finals, but they did have rigs set up at Silverstone with the Thrustmaster, so who knows...

So how are you guys getting the 370 to turn on the right hander at Indy Road? I've looked at a few replays but I can't tell if people are tossing it in there or being smooth. I think I'm about 350th on it but it was pretty lousy.

Toss it in with an abrupt-ish lift of the brakes combined with a downshift, get your front right to just go over the rumbles.

I've found the fastest way through there is to leave it in 3rd gear.

Yeah, I saw you say that yesterday and tried it last night, but I personally couldn't get below .45x. I'm downshifting to second in both turns. In the left, I'm using just the right amount of power oversteer to get the car to rotate just a little bit before shifting to 3rd.

how do you view top runner's replays?

via the main menu, there is a little "play" button, once you've downloaded their replay you can then view it there. 👍

Regarding Indy, that one & the nurburgring one are the toughest I've done so far. I'm currently at 80th something place on that one.

I'll try the tips as mentioned above, trying to get into the ".3xx". :dopey:

Indy Road course always provides the best challenges!

I'm at a .468. Not pleased yet. But considering how many struggle to get below .500, you got to feel some pride.

Kudos to those top times!

I wish they would lock the view that you use doing these tests. I normally drive with a bumper view and in blind corners there's a huge advantage for those who use behind the car view. You see the track so far a head that it's much easier to hit the right braking/acceleration point. I don't care if it would be the cockpit that was default to all, it doesn't slow me down as much as trying to drive behind the car.

Yeah, I've pretty much determined my inability to match top times is driver related, not view related (cockpit). Any one blaming the view for their lack of speed is just making excuses...plain and simple.

Nice GT Academy related story from today:

I work at an automotive performance shop in their data entry department. They recently purchased a 2012 GT-R to work on as a project. Today they needed someone to take the car out with a couple camera guys to get some shots of it and the new exhaust they put on it. Long story short, the boss man picked me since I've driven a GT-R before. So I spent the afternoon driving a 550 wheel horsepower GT-R around the streets of eastern Phoenix. :D

Oh, and launch control with over 600 crank horsepower = NUTS.

Think I'm all done with Round 4. Can't stand 4-5, but I somehow pulled off a .818 without hitting that annoying yellow Z. Now up to 7th in the US, although I'm certain some of the aliens will knock me down to reality sooner or later.

I'm also learning that I can indeed drive with more feedback, and still be just as fast, if not faster. My arms aren't too happy with me, though.

Late but meh:

Im curious if improving my times in these early rounds is a waste of time, if it even counts. On GT Academy 2011(NA) it went by our total times, but doesn't make any difference now. Just so long as there isn't the same rediculous cheating issues as last year though, i wont be bothered lol

Noticed the new intro to GTA. Its an old one with Lucas but its still relevant today that's for sure.

Just pulled a 5 Hour Academy Stint first time that i've been able to focus, since the first two weeks i spent building a wheel stand for the O'G25 and pretty much finished with round 3 (hates nuburing) :ouch: me sleep now see you guys tommorrow for round 4 perfection zzzzZZZZzzzzzZZZZ
