Yeah not as easy as it sounds. Those who have obtained rides have connections, something I don't have. Also takes money to go racing, another thing I don't have.

Not much actually. Now, if you plan to make a living off of it, thats a different story, but its still not impossible.

Take me for example. If I happen to be talented and lucky enough to win this, then great! It wont come out of my pocket and I'll actually profit from it. If I dont, I'll continue with my plans for my CRX.

I have very little money and I am actually typing this from my PS3 because I cant even "afford" a laptop. Most of my money goes to staying alive and the rest goes into the bucket. As things are going, this thing wont be finished till 2015, but believe me, you will hear of Fissure Racing then.

You have to be determined. Dont just sit there waiting for the next thing to help you out, get yourself out.

Since everyone quotes him here. "You have to make the compromise to win, or else, nothing."

Since you don't actually know how my life is right now, I'll just take your "you have to be determined" with a grain of salt. I AM determined. I would give everything I own (which is NOTHING) to have a single day on a race track in anything resembling a competitive car.

I'll get on a track eventually, but it's just not going to happen right now. I can hardly afford to get back and forth to work every day.

Nice GT Academy related story from today:

I work at an automotive performance shop in their data entry department. They recently purchased a 2012 GT-R to work on as a project. Today they needed someone to take the car out with a couple camera guys to get some shots of it and the new exhaust they put on it. Long story short, the boss man picked me since I've driven a GT-R before. So I spent the afternoon driving a 550 wheel horsepower GT-R around the streets of eastern Phoenix. :D

Oh, and launch control with over 600 crank horsepower = NUTS.

👍

Major props right there R1600! I take my hat off to you right now. I always wanted to get in a drive the R35 espically a modified one, since the CBAR35 hit the shores of the US. :D

Like I said before, I'm going to school to take up Automotive Tech as my career choice and one day open up my own performance shop/show car design studio to work on and design beautiful works of mechanical art which is cars, weather it's for the track, shows or for the streets. After reading this and listening to several members who have careers dealing with cars here, other people and sources, including GT and FM, have given me the choice of what I wanted to do. I always loved cars, trucks and racing since childhood and this is what I wanted to do for a living.

Even if I win GT Academy, then I living one of my childhood careers when I dreamed of doing since I was little. I'll still go to school and get my degree on what I want to do. Racer by day, student, then owner of my business anytime.

Tell me how did you get your job at a performance shop? I'm really eager to know. :D

My GF bought me and upcoming 2x25 minute sessions in a formula Renault 1600cc open wheel car, I was optimistic about asking Allen Berg on how I myself could break into a series (Allen Berg: former F1 Driver and Formula 2 champion)

Here's his reply

Also sorry for the long post. 👍

Dude, marry your GF now. ;)

Yep, starting a career in racing is like going to a expensive and prestiegious university. Expensive to get in and got to have a lot of resources or connections. But you don't have to partipicate in karting though.

You can buy a Honda/Acura CRX, Civic and/or Interga Si, TypeR, GSR; S-chassis Nissan(S13-S14); Toyota AE86 or Supra Mk3; Mazda Miata or RX7 and other type of cheap cars for less than $5,000-$10,000 and have money to fix them up for racing:D.

Though I'm looking at a WRX STi, Lan Evo 8/9 GSR or a S2000 as my DD and track car. I'm also looking at either a S13 Coupe or Fastback, Mk3 Supra, FD3S RX7 and/or a AE86 as a drift car and track car as well. Just use the leftover money from my other car purschase and save up for one of these cars. Fix them up for more in depth racing. :D

Sometimes I hate being a broke soon-to-be college student. :(

Yep that's true, you have to be determined to do whatever you want and always keep that in mind when going for the goal.

So, what are you running in the "pocket rocket"(that's what I call a CRX mostly) a B16-8 engine swap or you working on the stock engine?

I know people are going off topic, but it's quite interesting reading about everyone's experience on trying to get involved into racing. Because I'm on the same boat! lol

For me it is a little different, to make a long story short, I've been taking any opportunity to get some experience. Recently, I've been taking some "indoor kart racing classes" at various K1 Speed location's here in SoCal. It's cool because I've seen lot's of improvements throughout. Another thing, I've even driven the Skippy Formula Car last year at Laguna Seca, for the 3 day Racing School, it was fun but I lacked the confidence :(.

Anyway, back on topic, I haven't done 4-3 to 4-5 yet...hoping they suit me better than the first 2. :D

Yeah, you're really off the back on the first two. 👍

I didn't find 4-1 to be very enjoyable, but the others I've done are quite fun.

It's going to be quite an interesting battle to get into the top 32 for sure.
Seems like some of the fast guys haven't even started on 4 yet. Wonder if there's anybody sandbagging. If I was fast, I might, the challenges are pretty fun though so I guess not.

I've lost count the number of times I let the car clip the grass on the left as I try making the entry for the long right-hander (drei-fach rechts?). It's infuriating as I don't feel like I'm going that far out in the first place, at least from bumper cam. :grumpy:

What's that supposed to mean? lol

I'm 40 pos. in 4-1 & 22 pos. in 4-2, in the USA. It ain't that bad I suppose but I have to step it up if I want to make it through to the finals...well at least when 8-5 becomes available.

BTW, is 4-3 the same track as the one where you're driving the Silvia???

Yeah, I've perfected the 180 into the wall. Gone through finish after doing a 1080 and got the silver. :grumpy: I'm going to skip it.

I think it's pretty darn good man. Saw your name on 4-2, I think I'm 27th in the US, to me that one is complex.

Yeah 4-3 is the same track, but I haven't figured out how to drive the 370 on the low speed stuff. How some guys go though the last 3 corners without hitting the brakes is beyond my comprehension.

Turn and let the car coast until you "feel" the car rotate. Apply throttle carefully to avoid understeer. Grant you, I'm only at a 29.425, and the last three corners is where I lose all my time to the top guys.

Thank's, currently doing 4-3, it ain't too bad just have to figure out how to push the car faster.

I'll keep that in mind, I am currently at a 29.5 ... that last corner determines whether I get a good time or not, lol. I either get too close and hit a cone or too far and understeer. But when I get it right, it feels good. :dopey:

r1600 when you went to silverstone did they give you any kind of racing lisence or something like that?

i think in the last stage it is going to be tuned GTR with racing hard tires

Yeah, that corner's a real pain. I was stuck in the 5s until I forced myself in delaying the turn-in until the last possible moment. Still, it's the two prior corners that are hurting me more, mainly on transitioning the car from left to right. If I could only speed that up, somehow.

Downloading the top time helped me get the last two I had problems with. Went faster at Madrid on the first attempt after downloading the ghost. I guess it helps if I'm chasing something faster on screen.

Spent half an hour trying to surpass a friend and finally did it with a 30:9xx on 3-2(Suzuka). Too bad the GT servers glitched out and didn't update my new time.:ouch:👎:grumpy::grumpy: I'll have to do it again sometime, good thing I saved the replay. I think I'll wait til server maintenance is done, I've been experiencing many issues with the GT servers lately.

please help, how do u download top runner's replays and view them?

1. Start a round 1-5 through 4-5 ( as of the time of this writing)

2. Click on "Online Rankings".

3. Select a Top10 PSN User.

4. A window will open with that person's driving settings ghost replay and replay will appear.

5. Select what you would like to load.

6. Ghosts are view-able within your racing session.

7. Replay's are played from the main Menu only.

8. You Can view your own replay from either menu

Happy Racing.

Hmm, just noticed a "Showroom" button. Not sure if it was already present or just added, but it caught my attention while trying to look for the "gift" button.

It has always been there. :) I guess it's for looking at your nice and shiny car?

Looks it it, though it seems to basically be the GT5 Dealership display when you look at a car, just without the option to change background. Speaking of which, I kinda wished we had the prolouge showrooms. All 60 FPS of cancer-inducing eye candy.

You figure that out yet? I finally figured out that I need to turn the volume up so I can hear the tires. That helped but I'm still stuck in the 5s. I like this one but just can't seem to pull it together.

I need to figure out my brake pedal better too, I think it's causing me to be inconsistent. It's a DFGT, I've heard about the bungees. Anyone have an opinion on a G27 vs DFGT pedals? I might just borrow a buddies G27 if the pedals are better.

Pedals are definitely better on a G27. I would keep in mind though, chances of the DFGT being used at the National Finals is pretty good so if you can keep using it I certainly would. For now I would just do the bungee trick. Than, if you make it to the National Finals, it's best to take them off and do practice races with people not using them.

Good advice, I think it's going to be a struggle to make it to the top 32. If the G27 helps I think I'm going to need all the help I can get. I'll try the bungee trick and see if that helps first.

Thanks

I can try to post a photo of my setup tonight, but will have to use my cell phone so not sure if I can do it. I have bungees on both the brake and accelerator pedals.
