Im curious if improving my times in these early rounds is a waste of time, if it even counts. On GT Academy 2011(NA) it went by our total times, but doesn't make any difference now. Just so long as there isn't the same rediculous cheating issues as last year though, i wont be bothered lol

Rounds 1-1 through 8-4 don't count towards the competition. It's to your benefit to practice doing them so that you are ready to go for 8-5 which is the qualifying round.

I was talking about a blind corner not being so blind if you use certain view. That gives an advantage to those who are used to drive using that view. I call it a flaw, you call it what ever you want.

But it's not a flaw because you can easily just use the other view. It may take you a little while to get used to it, but it's there for your use anytime you want. Therefor the other person's advantage is nil. The argument just doesn't make sense to me. People act like others are cheating just because they are using a different view point.

I call it grasping at straws. :sly:

That makes sense, but don't take it like I'm admitting I'm wrong :)

But the track doesn't change, there's no surprises, if you find a good reference point to turn in, you'll hit your marks every time, regardless of it being blind or not.

Do you drive for any team? If not I bet another team seeing how successful gt academy finalist drivers have been will give you a shot.

Yeah not as easy as it sounds. Those who have obtained rides have connections, something I don't have. Also takes money to go racing, another thing I don't have.

Is it confirmed or just rumours? I'm talking about those who've made it last year being ineligible this year. I was 80+th last year so might have a shot this year if it's true.

The people that are not eligible are the 16 Silverstone Finalists. So if you finished 17th on down, you're OK to compete again.

Nice GT Academy related story from today:

I work at an automotive performance shop in their data entry department. They recently purchased a 2012 GT-R to work on as a project. Today they needed someone to take the car out with a couple camera guys to get some shots of it and the new exhaust they put on it. Long story short, the boss man picked me since I've driven a GT-R before. So I spent the afternoon driving a 550 wheel horsepower GT-R around the streets of eastern Phoenix. :D

Oh, and launch control with over 600 crank horsepower = NUTS.

I envy you, sir. I'm sure that take-off is sublime.

My GF bought me and upcoming 2x25 minute sessions in a formula Renault 1600cc open wheel car, I was optimistic about asking Allen Berg on how I myself could break into a series (Allen Berg: former F1 Driver and Formula 2 champion)

Here's his reply
Alejandro

Unfortunately there are no free rides anymore and in order for a driver to go racing you have to pay for it yourself. Karting is a great / cost effective way to go racing. Beyond that gets very expensive and you will have to pay for it or find the funding yourself.

Drivers that make their living at it are probably less than 1% of total number of race drivers out there

There are numerous karting facilities in LA area where you can start karting, depending where you are based.

I wish I could give you better news

Also sorry for the long post. 👍

Yep, always get the same answer: Karting. I'm just no good at it though and not really interested in it. I honestly don't care about making a career out of it, I just want to be on a track, in a car, and don't care how I get there.

Currently looking for a cheap Miata project so I can start autocrossing again. Just waiting for the right one to pop up. :indiff:

I sure didn't think asking a simple question about views would turn into a discussion about cheating....sorry guys.

Edit: When I worked for Mazda I was able to take a Mazdaspeed Miata out for a joyride. Man that car was perhaps one of the funnest ones I ever drove... In fact I still have a couple good friends that work there...what kind of Miata would you be looking for?

I would assume hardtop (which is a little harder to find if I remember correctly)? What about RX-7s? Actually I guess the question is, why a Miata? Is Colorado a place you would go to pick it up? I'm not sure why you would go to CO to grab a miata though lol.

Hard top doesn't matter. Wouldn't mind an RX-7 but not if it needs a lot of work. I would in fact go to Colorado to get one, but it would have to be drivable enough for me to drive it back. And not going to find a car for less than $1,000 that can make that trip. I was born and raised and lived most of my life in Grand Junction. I have worked for Flyin' Miata. :)

Edit: Sorry for O/T.

Ahh that's awesome. I lived in Colorado Springs for about 18 years and have been here in Denver for about 7 years. The budget does make it difficult but with the way things are today...and Miatas being cheap in general...it could be doable. One last question would be why the later model and not a 90-91? Pretty sure those were 50-125 pounds lighter. Somewhere around there anyway.

Shorter nose crank = ???

1990 and early 1991 cars had issues with the crank pulley causing problems from improper installation. The keyway on the crankshaft eventually eats itself and you're in for a new crank plus whatever else was damaged. This was fixed mid-1991 with a longer crank nose and a different pulley.

You can of course convert a 1990 to a long nose by purchasing a long nose crankshaft, matching oil pump and crank pulley and installing them.

Ahhhhh. I dealt with alignments and crash cars more than anything so never had the chance to learn that.

Rx7s vary in that if you get a good one that works you love it, but if you get a bad egg which there definitely were they weren't reliable. Great car, if it works. Plus you would have to know someone that can work on a rotary engine if it breaks down.
