Hello Fellow GT addicts. I have a question that may or may not be relivent to me, but this year I am going into this fully prepared, and I want to be ready for anything.
I have not read all of the rules and regs, so I appologize if this is readable somewhere, but I need to know about a passport. I plan on applying for a passport today or tomarrow but I dont know if it will be ready if I do it the conventional way. If someone who went to silverstone last year from the U.S. can enlighten me on this process, that would be great. Thanks reude108

I just got mine recently and it took about 5 weeks. But as far as needing one for silverstone.....I dont know. I would assume you need one to travel overseas. ( I got mine for other reasons. But I does make me feal better knowing I already have mine.)
You can pay extra to have it rushed if you are leaving soon and I think they may do it anyway because they ask you yaour travel plans and if you HAVE to leave soon I would think they will put a rush on it anyway.

What else is there?

After the nationals anything else is extra. I expect to make the top 32. After that its a crap shoot with racing portion. Not trying to sound cocky, just confident.

If I do make the top 32, it will probably be at the tail end of the top 32. :dopey:

I'll see, last year I came in 51st in the West Region...I'm sure I'll be closer than last year. :)

I feel the same. But as long as I make I don't really care if its 1st or 32nd. Anything can happen in the racing aspect of it.

How do the Orlando "races" go down?
Do they run a bracket system?
Qualifying is done how?
And what are the rules for the race, I would assume "clean" racing. Any stewards?

I'll leave all that up to the imagination. ^^^

Not sure how much I'm "allowed" to share.

Aww, come on :sly:

On an unrelated note, random online rooms are great fun now that GT Academy is closing in. Seems like all the good drivers are coming out of the woodwork again.

For the stewards thing, I can say there was someone standing behind you watching your every move the whole time.

The guy behind me at one point was telling me to watch the grass right in the middle of a race. All that mowing the lawn before the competition really made them sensitive lol

I'll chime in on that one; yeah, if you're in the U.S., you absolutely need a passport to travel overseas.

You can get applications at most post offices. If your post office does passports, might be a good idea to set up an appointment beforehand to turn in your application.

You can pick up the application and fill it out beforehand, so all you have to do is show up with your app, passport photo (you can get 'em taken all over the place), fees, and copy of your birth certificate. Pretty straightforward.

Just read this on the official GT website... has this always been known?

The National Final Events which bring together the top 16 players from each region are planned for July. The top 6 players who pass this difficult stage can then move forward to the final selection round held at the Silverstone Race Camp in August. At the Race Camp contestants performance will be overseen by top racing talent including former F1 driver Johnny Herbert and others. Over several days participants will be tested for not only their driving skill, but for their physical fitness and mental strengths as well.

This is not the normal 32 to 16 break down.

There is enough time between the National Finals and the Silverstone finals to get a passport if you need one. I was able to get one in that time span with a couple weeks to spare last year.

Where did you see that?

The official site for me says:

Players will learn and train in the art of high-performance driving in eight separate rounds. These rounds will be scheduled in a sequential manner (see below for schedule). Based on his or her performance in the 5th event of Round 8, 32 of the top players from the United States will be selected to participate in the National Final Event in July 2012.

................

In July, the National Final Event will bring together the top 32 players from the United States, with the top 16 players who pass this challenging stage advancing to the Final Selection Round. This all-important stage will be held at Silverstone Circuit in August. Here, the Final Selection Committee—which is comprised of the world’s top driving trainers, including former F1 pilot Johnny Herbert—will judge the finalists over several days by testing not only their driving skills, but also their physical fitness and mental toughness.

True. In any event, I just think it's a good idea to have one. Never know when you'll have to flee th--

...er...

...nothing. I said nothing.

*waves hand* These are not the droids you're looking for.

That is interesting that they said something to you during the race. When I was running on Indy I drove it exactly the same way we had to in the last online time trial round. Later after the race they penalized me a point for it because of cutting the last sharp right too much. Would have been great if they maybe said something during the race. And all this was after getting punted the day before from 1st and missing out on 1st place points for one of the races. I was a bit displeased to say the least lol. In the end it didn't matter for me but the the lack of consistency was a bit ironic.

i know this isn't the place for question :( but just wanted to asked you guys are really good!! just go gt driving force wheel and wanted to know what tsc settings and the breaking you guys are usings thanks im ranked in the 350s on rounds 1-3 and

thanks r1600 so trac off and abs 1 about the fr and rr break?

You can't adjust the brake balance for this competition.

Also, not sure if you're on a phone but try your best to use capital letters and proper punctuation. Kind of a rule around here. :)

another place to get passport applications is at the county clercks office. and you can fill them out online at the department of state's website. You may have to mail in your passport and birth certificate.

Just got a 29.664 on round 1-2 and beat my previous best of a 29.706. I just went from +1700 place to 87th
I'm sure I am not the only one still trying to improve my times on the older rounds, right?

Offical rules are finally up on the gran-turimso.com site. Looks lie there are no regions this year in the US. Would be fun if we use the dlc GT-R Touring Car for the last round, great car!

I can see one area of contention already, reading the rules. The first person to hit the winning time wins. So if two people have the same time, the first one wins. Not good for people who work, and can't start at the very opening of the event.

If they are smart they will make the final round something long and very difficult so that there will be little chance of a tie and that won't come into effect. Maybe something like the seasonal TT we had a few weeks ago on the ring, where the top 10 spots were spread over ~4 seconds.

Edit- actually I see the rules contradicts itself. Farther down it says the contestant with the fewest number of tries wins a tie. Wonder which it actually is.
