This is something that I don't quite understand. It doesn't seem fair that last years finalists can't compete again. I would think that PD would let them. If you made it to Orlando last year and didn't make the cut for Silverstone, what's wrong with taking a year to practice for the next competition? It only seems fair. It's not like you'll have an advantage over anyone.

If you made it into the top 32, but not the top 16, you are eligible to participate in GT academy this year. It's only the people who actually went to Silverstone that cannot partake in the competition again.

The older fat models were backwards compatible, new models have only PSONE compatibility.

Not all 'fat' models are backwards compatible and I believe the same applies with the newer one. The PSONE compatibility, I'm not sure if it's the same for the 'fat' one.

forza 3 and 4 has motegi if you have an xbox, but then you may not have a wheel that works unless you own a fanatec (assuming you drive with a wheel in GT). I bought gt4 the other day to practice the gt version of motegi and my csr won't work with the ps2 so i'm still in kinda the same boat. And i don't wanna screw myself by switching back and forth between noticeably different physics. :grumpy:

I don't have an xbox so automatically, Forza is out of the picture. I've tryed looking for various mods for rfactor and GTR, but never quite found a good one that was accurate or Friendly on frame rate.

To be specific, Only the 60 Gig launch model (the one I have) is fully backwards compatible. Any other version lower then it is only PS1 compatible.

I don't think practicing with different physics is the best thing to do either.

I'm using a pad so it won't make much difference. As long as I can grasp all the braking points and important parts of the circuit, it'll just be a matter of adjusting how I do it on another set of physics. Its worked before when I've learned a new sim so it won't be anything new. Hell, I actually knew most of the real circuits in GT5 (except the Top Gear track) before I actually unlocked them because of all the practice I had on other games, all with some form of different physics.

20GB(CECHB) and 60GB(CECHA) launch models were fully backwards compatible with PS2/PS1(hardware based). 60GB(CECHC) and 80GB(CECHE) had partial software emulation based PS2 compatibility. Later model 40GB, 80GB, 120GB, 160GB, 250GB and 320GB models lost PS2 compatibility. All PS3's are PS1 compatible.

Time to try and lower some of my times.

Just completing 5&6 right now. Only doing each one enough times to hit gold (usually first try) and that's it. Since I still have not heard back about eligibility for this year, starting to care less and less about it. Just doing what I need to for the free cars.

^^This^^

I fired up Forza 3 today and took a few laps around Twin Ring in a GT-R. It's not a track I'm familiar with so I'm just looking to sight the general braking points and basic line.

What track variation do you think the final round will be on?

You're not even trying? I'm upset now because I got a little excited when I was near your times. Or sometimes beating them. I thought you would put a little effort in to getting some alien times.

Can't wait to see how you'll do in Round 8 though, regardless of being eligible or not. That is, if you try. :)

I asked this before, with no reply, but when round's 7/8 come by...will people just rush through round 7 & round 8-1 to 8-4 just to have enough time to do 8-5 (<---the round that counts).

I mean, that's what I would do. :dopey:

I would have to think so. Most people rushed through the others. There will be a lot of unfamiliar names you'll be seeing and thinking were did these people come from.

Last I checked, the east course was what I last read.

So is all the info about 8-5 just good guess's and trying to wake up GT4 to roosty TR Motegi isn't a good idea? I'm confused, is there anything concrete that we can hang our hat on to get some pre-emptive rust removal accomplished before I find out that everything I have been spending my time on is just an exercise in futility?

Not if I can help it ^^Sniperwolph^^

Even if I am an unfamiliar name I would definitely put up a fight, doing last year's academy and this year's academy has taught me so much. I would say people who where seriously practicing from Round 1 through now have a better chance IMHO. :gtpflag:

Hello Fellow GT addicts. I have a question that may or may not be relivent to me, but this year I am going into this fully prepared, and I want to be ready for anything.
I have not read all of the rules and regs, so I appologize if this is readable somewhere, but I need to know about a passport. I plan on applying for a passport today or tomarrow but I dont know if it will be ready if I do it the conventional way. If someone who went to silverstone last year from the U.S. can enlighten me on this process, that would be great. Thanks reude108

but your not really an unfamiliar name.

Thanks Jersey lol that must mean i'm known and slow haha :dopey:

I've seen your name before. Me on the other hand I'm a forza player just hoping to make the top 32. Anything else will be extra.

So, only the last leg of round 8, is the one that really matters? Getting gold, which isn't that hard to do, doesn't matter, except for the cars?

I just found out yesterday that gta was running again. This is the third time I've entered a gta a month late. After 6 hours of play, I think I'm in pos 150000:)

Hey Midi, nice to see you out again :)

Long time huh? Wow, where did all these people come from. I made an honest effort to run some good times, getting gold in most with a hand controller. Then saw that I was way out there in position. There are like 1000 people with the same time ... wow. On one, I forget which one, I'm in pos 88000, and I'm only .142 sec out.

Can't imagine how that's going to work when the fat lady sings:)

No kidding, I've only run controller as well just sitting back and watching at this point. Made me realize how much I suck with a controller lol.

I was just going to look around and then pull out the seat and wheel, and have at it. I got gold, mostly on the first try, with the controller, for the first couple of rounds. By the time I got to round 6, I was taking bronze, and happy to get it. I hate a controller, and you're better at it than I am. I was having trouble beating your times (I like that friends list thing)

Yea the friends list is nice. Massive respect for the guys who are getting good times with a controller. Just not my cup of tea.
