I would say yes you can. I made it into the top 100 usually, but it took me some time (chasing ghosts and watching replays) to crack the top 50s.
I would think with the leaderboards a lot less active now a days, a better indicator would be top 50s.
I have to disagree with you. I'm a top 50 driver (usually around 25-40) in the Seasonal TT's and last year I didn't even come close to being a finalist, finishing in the 700's I believe. Participation in the Seasonal TT's has been down as of late, especially by the aliens/fast guys. In my opinion, I'd have to say that finishing in the top 15 - top 20 consistently would be a better indicator that you have a good chance at being a finalist in the Academy when all the big dogs come out to play. I just don't think top 100 is going to cut it.
EDIT: While I'm thinking about it and to further make my point, I'm currently the #1 U.S. driver in the current Seasonal TT at London. Based on that, you would think that I could be a finalist rather easily but that's just not the case because I know at least 15 people off the top of my head that are way faster than me but aren't participating. Add to that the other faster guys that I'm forgetting/not thinking about and well, there you go......more work to be done by me as I'm on the outside looking in again. Using the Seasonals to judge your skillset on a whole is just going to bring false positives, especially for average/above average divers like myself. Not trying to be negative here, but this is just the way I've seen things pan out in my 5-6 years of playing and watching/studying the trends as far as the TT leaderboards go.
