GT Academy 2015 "Prelude To A Dream" Time Trial Series

1:39.394 after a bunch of laps and a bunch of cursing and restarting after f'ing up turn 1. I just can't seem to find any consistent reference points to get that turn right and end up giving away tons of time there.

@SGT Serb I use the little white markers on the left side of the track for turn 1.

Me too but I always find myself trying to look ahead into the turn out of reflex (which is pointless since it's a blind downhill turn) and missing the reference point, then overcooking it and understeering into the damn gravel. This track really takes some getting used to if you want to be quick. I LOVE the rest of the track but hate turn 1.

Leaderboard has been updated. Again, my apologies for the delay as real life has had me by the balls for the last few days. Not to mention, I have a wedding to help plan for. Some impressive times there at the top , great job by all so far. 👍

hey can i apologize for my action from friday

Nope. You're dead to us.

Just kidding man. Just make sure you read the rules and adhere to them. This is just a friendly competition that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, so if you are knowingly cheating the only person you are cheating is yourself.

I gave the 370Z challenge another go last night, after about 20 minutes of dropping F bombs and cursing the creator of turn 1 I took a rest, had some dinner, then put in two magical laps in a row. My first fast lap time was a 1:39.238 which was a slight improvement over my previous time followed immediately by a 1:38.732. I was so excited that I promptly overcooked turn 1 and ended up in the gravel again on lap 3.

Here's the photo proof since this basically puts me at the top of the leaderboard on this challenge. Before anyone says anything, the ONLY mod this car has is the OEM style sport package spoiler because I hate the way the Z34 looks without it. I doubt that would make any difference in terms of the actual car's performance in the game but I'll leave it up to ya'll to decide whether you want to count my time.

Wait... so if you have installed a custom wing on the Z, wouldn't that count as cheating? Having an adjustable rear wing on car without adjustable downforce actually does improve cornering grip and speed slightly, but mostly it just keeps the rear planted, which would mean that you could accelerate faster and more aggressively out of corners... I suggest you run some laps without the wing, and see if you can get close to your time.

That's why I said I'll leave it up to you guys if you want to count my time or not... The OEM style spoiler isn't adjustable in any way, you can't go into the settings and adjust rear downforce with it installed. By that logic I thought it was more of a "looks" mod. I will take it off tonight and see if it makes any difference.

I have like 6 different 370Zs all tuned slightly differently, the biggest difference on this track was running it with different tires and adjustable suspension. My race prepped version which I built to be as close to the GT4 group cars that you see on GT Academy runs a big adjustable rear wing, fully adjustable suspension, 410hp and racing hard tires.... That car was running sub 30s all day on this track with no grip issues on turn 1.

Turns out the rear spoiler made no difference, I improved from a 1:38.732 with the wing to a 1:38.462 without it. Excuse the crappy cell phone shot, I don't know how to do screen captures from my PS3 hooked up to my TV.

This is a tough challenge... Really hard to find the balance between when it's quicker to slide a bit and when you have to try to grip all the way through. The Sport Hard tires are really a crap combo to run on this car, I wish it came with Sport Soft in the game since that's what it comes with in real life.

My real Z came stock with Bridgestone RE050As which are a 140 treadwear tire and crazy sticky for an OEM tire. I'd think those would count as "Sport Soft." JDM versions of the car come with Yokohama Advan Neovas which are slightly less sticky (180 treadwear) but I think anything under 200 definitely counts as soft and sticky. My stock rears only lasted me 25k miles and that was only running it in AutoX - no real track days on them. Fronts are now toast and I just barely clocked over 35k this week.

Sorry guys, been very, very sick in the hospital. Still not doing well. Have no idea when/if I'll be back. Again, my sincerest apologies. Good luck in the Academy everyone as it looks like all my hopes and dreams have come to an end here. I'll be watching and rooting for all of you. God Bless you all and thanks for the participation and friendships, you all will be remembered and missed greatly, along with my time here on these forums.

Sincerely,
Mitch.
