GT Academy Finals Coverage!

Wow what a dive bomb on the last lap by yellow... I'd love to know if he got penalized for that.

I was the red car (roof cam) in 1st that got bombed on, they told me they would review after all races were done for the round (they save every race replay) but I dont think anything was done about it. I was only given 3rd place points for the race, which is basically nothing compared to 1st That guy basically used me to turn and went 4 off to pass me in the process... And I lost some very crucial first place points for that. I also got hit hard from behind going into the tunnel on an earlier lap that forced me into the wall and cost me a postion. But some of these guys are facing elimination and have nothing to lose by pulling these type of moves. After day 1 I think 3wide is leading the whole thing followed Bryan H (cuda_man), and Brock (Outlaw). I'm now down to sixth. I would have been tied for 1 st without the bombing.

I think someone asked if we are using automatics, I wasn't, Actually they haven't let us mess with any settings, even the ones you cen get to through the wheel while driving. I think they just want everything the same for eveyrone.

Sorry to hear that it was to you. On a positive note, Even with that occurring, they have you listed as having the most points after round one. I am rooting for you my friend. You are definitely in my top 16 that I think will be making it to Silverstone. Keep your focus... I want to see you on the Speed Channel.

Timeattack withdrew? Do you know why? That is a huge shock. I thought he was one of the fastest of the whole group.

Sorry RackAttack, that sucks that you were that close and could have been in the competition. You must have been waiting patiently since round 3 wondering if they would bring you in as an alternate.

I updated post #39 that shows everyone's name, and who is still in it. I have TimeAttack as "possibly withdrew?" as it hasn't been announced officially yet.

EDIT: I just realized after watching the last video again, that 3 other people were eliminated after round 2. Wardez, you mentioned above, who you thought might have been knocked out. You might be right, I am going to watch the vid again and see if I can determine who it might have been.

Round 2 of 2011 GT Academy is complete: Christopher Roberts (Dr_3Wide_Skills) has taken the lead. The former leader after round 1, Christopher Morton (Z06Fun), has slipped to 6th place. The following competitors have been eliminated from the competition: Nick Tenhulzen (TenHulznAuto), Tom Carstensen (GTP_potatochip), Brett Jones (Jonesy48Jimmie) and Brock Harrison (GTP_timeattack)

Sorry to see that the "divebomb" did affect z06. I can't see the full move on the replay, as we could only see it from z06's perspective. This makes it a little tough as he is using roof cam, which has no rear view mirror. But by his last look back, the yellow car is two spots back right before the turn, and then suddenly slamming into the passenger door of the red car (z06). z06 looked to have the inside line completely covered, so I am not sure how they wouldn't penalize the yellow car.

I also noticed the other spot you referred to z06, I was watching from your perspective, and was surprised you ran into the wall before the tunnel. Your explanation of being bumped makes sense now.

Good luck here forward. You made it to first once, I am sure if things go well, you can get there again.

Z06, i would definitely bring up your loss in that race with an official. You may not get 1st place points, but the least they can do is knock down the yellow car and move you up one position for that race. He definitely deserves a penalty.

edit: Apparently they do not change results, but do deduct points. So the yellow car may have been penalized, but no change to Z06's score . At least you're up there in 6th.

Much agreed. TimeAttack is probably the fastest driver I have seen online. Potatochip has always finished 1st or 2nd in any online race I have been in with him. Both of these statements come based on my experience with the two of them on Stig's and Forced's lobbies. 2 incredibly fast drivers, no longer in the competition.

Well, 8 more to be eliminated tomorrow. Exciting, though, that 66.67% of the remaining drivers will make it to Silverstone!

I will be working on a Day 1 round up after dinner for you all and Jordan will post it probably around 3am Est time. I let Lucas know that I would get some questions from fellow GTP members and we can have a 1 on 1 tomorrow, so I will open a thread for that later.

Dude I would be too! Congrats! That's amazing 'cause nobody could expect to be experiencing all that. Even just seeing the competition in person's awesome enough, but wow... On track driving? GT-R? Woo!

I am with All the people who put it on and Lucas ^_^ The drivers are on their free time.

It is the Richard Petty track at disney. But we will only be driving on flat tarmac.

My understanding of the timeattack situation is that he didn't want to participate in the media portion of it all plus he didn't want to go to silver stone.

I did not share a rumor, that was in-fact the case. You can not blame someone for going from his home rig at home to a very high-tech rig with 4 people standing around you and booms in your face.... You get different feelings. They allowed someone to advance who DOES want to be a driver, so imo, all is well.

I understand your sentiments here... But after we competed with him, and raced with him to prepare for the finals, all of us have formed somewhat of a comradery with him. I am in by no means a close personal friend of his, but I was rooting for him pretty hard. A lot of us here care how he is, and we just wanted to know that he is A-ok.

I have no idea what Rack posted, but I am sure it was nothing meant to be harmful. I feel for Rack, this must be emotional for him right now. He was the first alternate that would have been chosen from the West. Poor Rack was so close to such a huge opportunity.

Also, a lot of us that were in this competition would love to see every bit of this covered. If they had covered the event on the internet, I would have been watching it all day. We may seem a little over eager to find out what happened, but I don't think any of us want to do anything to disparage TimeAttack's character, racecraft, or decision making. I am sure he had his reasons, and I hope he is ok.

Also, Brock is well. One of the coolest guys here forsure. Brock has his reasons and its really noone's business why. I just wish him the best and can't wait for some more epic races with him online.

Meh, it was just in poor taste and negative so I removed it. I'm just uber disappointed (and have been ever since round 3 ended) and it's just hard for me to believe that someone would pass on such an amazing opportunity. Oh well though, I'm just looking ahead to next years GT Academy (if there is one).

I'm sure there will be a portion of the show on Speed that will cover the happenings during this round.

I'm concentrating my efforts on rooting for the 4 members of the TPRA that still remain after day one, as well as a fellow west coast autocrosser, Bryan Heitkotter. I got very little work done today because I kept refreshing Twitter, Facebook, and two different forums trying to get as much info as I could.
