GT Academy July 2013!!

They've already confirmed it's Nissan only. Probably just 2 cars and one track like the GT5 demo was. Basically just enough to run GTA.

I do hope we get different configurations of Silverstone.

They have said they liked last years way of doing it (With different rounds). So I would assume this academy will last 4/5 weeks (July till maybe start of August) and maybe 5 rounds? 1-4 with licence tests and 5th being a final round. That's just a guess but I can definitely see several rounds being in it from what I've read upto this point.

i'm not even gonna bother practicing if the physics are gonna be different. Could end up hurting more then helping.

Then you don't deserve to enter GT Academy or race real car. Let alone become a real professional race driver.
Adapting is very important in motorsport and GT Academy.

I don't think you took that as he meant it at all. He was simply saying he's not going to run a different game when the physics for the GT Academy demo are going to be much different, and I agree. I've run GT5 more than enough to know the tracks, but I don't have a clue what GT6 will drive like, so what's the point in playing another game that will have completely different physics? It could just make the process of getting used to GT6's physics rougher. Nothing to do with skill or laziness; think about the comment before you judge it next time.

For me, I'm not worried about the different physics, I would prefer to keep practicing GT5 so that I keep my racing senses sharp and aware. It won't take that long to adapt to GT6 anyway so there's no point worrying about it 👍

Those words would be strong, but your poor grammar really held them back.

Nice try though. Seems as though you're not looking to go above and beyond for a good reputation.

This. Coming from someone who has played GT6 at least as much as anybody else on GTP, I can say that yes, the physics are different, but it doesn't mean the fundamental techniques have changed.

Even playing any half decent racing game would be better than playing non at all. If you were really that concerned about the different physics, then at least do a few online races to keep your race craft sharp (in fact, do this anyway.)

Thanks for backing up my point 👍

I will have lots of time to play after Friday this week, so if anyone wants to practice some online racing against me, just send me a message, either on here, or psn. :)

It's exactly as John and Alex have said, and I have the same view. GT5 is a simulator, as is any other racing game, and so is GT6. All the techniques you learn in one generally can be applied to all of them. It's a bit like the licences and things like that some people find them pointless, but to me even the B licences they can be of use to really develop your technique, and thinking. Just think Iracers always end up coming to GT for this challenge, David williams has shown that when he has been at the nationals twice and the European the second time. I've also played with another iracer who's done the same and Redbull gridsters was sort of based around that whole idea as well (Although the settings were a little more against you in that competition ;))

Noone ever is the best and everyone can always improve :)! So to keep in shape you gotta continue and try new things 👍

Good idea to practice with GT5 as GT6 is similar in FFB. Also GT5 practice should give you a good idea how well you will do in actual GT Academy Time Trial as competitors generally remain the same.

I decided not to take part this year as in enter officially but will still do time trial for fun. Good luck everyone 👍.

Here is more info on what time trial might be about:

First I think you need to buy car used in TT from dealership like this:

This is how car looks like in garage:

The power figures seem to vary quite a bit.

Anyway here are the events for GT Academy 2013:

Interesting thing is they call it rental car and also PP is different than stock car so probably got a custom setup. Things could have changed since Silverstone demo so I wouldn't take this as 100% final. Will know soon I guess.

Below are assists that could be used:

Concerning thing is SRF can be enabled so hopefully they disable it for actual TT.

First valid lap completed was good enough for Silver :

Quite scruffy lap using control pad but was meant for quick demonstration.

Any idea where that is? I think I see an 2004 Audi Sport UK R8 in the back.

And i'm sure i'll see you at nationals next to me. I've already been there once. I'm more than qualified to make that statement. Also i race almost everyday on a sim wether it be gt5, forza, or Iracing ( more iracing now adays as nothing on a console even comes close). If you know how to be fast it doesn't matter what game your playing.

Late to the party, but huge congrats to TRC LocoArmen for winning the Racer X comp. Even though I'm way too old and out of shape to even try if I were to somehow make it to the finals, I am looking forward to getting back to some serious lapping again. Been too long.

New Academy info

GT Academy 2013, the biggest competition in its history, will officially kick off with qualifications starting Tuesday, July 2 and ending Sunday, July 28 at 3:59 p.m. PST. The only way to qualify is by downloading the demo for PlayStation 3® and racing for the best qualifying times to advance to National Finals where they’ll compete for a place in the Silverstone race camp to determine one ultimate winner from each country. This year, the stakes are even higher as players will get on the testing grounds with a new demo from the unreleased Gran Turismo 6 game for PlayStation 3, giving fans around the world a sneak peek into the biggest racing game of the year.

The demo will remain available to play even after the competition concludes until Aug. 31 and is open to all Gran Turismo fans, including gamers who do not wish to enter the 2013 GT Academy contest.

👍 for the Bolded.
👎 for the Red. Why not until GT6 is released?

Thanks for the information.

GT Academy in the United States, along with Russia and Germany, will each have standalone qualifying contests to designate the countries’ top Gran Turismo drivers. Europe’s 2013 Academy includes France, Italy, UK, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Nordics (Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway) and CEE (Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia).
So we'r still out.
What a shame.

It's a shame.
But I'm glad my country will be available

Very disappointed with New Zealand not being included. Crossing my fingers for the minute possibility that it will end up in NZ/AU shores towards the end of the year based on what my chat with a couple of Nissan marketing execs revealed during the Pukekohe V8 Supercars...if you're from NZ or Australia and want another crack at this competiton you might want to like the GT Academy petition facebook page on my signature and message Nissan/Playstations social media outlets to bring it back when GT6 comes out.

Personally the only reason I'll actually buy the new game is if I get multiple additional shots at GT Academy regardless of how good the GT6 demo is.

It's possible it's not in Australia and New Zealand because they want all finals to take place at Silverstone. I don't see why they won't just use somewhere like Mount Panorama if that's the case, but since when have big companies used logic for their decisions?

There was a GT Academy wildcard event for the French national finals set up at Le Mans. I gave it a go, and kinda won it. Shame I'm ineligible. And not French...

Look at my post count... looks like it was inevitable that they would be like this on the lead up to my 666th post here

I don't quite get the logic in that statement either since they took the Middle East and South African finalists to Silverstone for their Race Camp

If what Mr. Nick Ryan and Mr. Jeffrey Fisher of Nissan Australia said is to be believed then what could be happening is that they're spacing the qualifiers out so that the race camps are spaced apart in similar fashion - Australia and New Zealand having theirs towards the end of the year?

I am a little skeptical of that though since the 4 GT Academy regions announced will have race camps within a week of each other from what I've read on this thread so far. We're just one extra region so unless the Race Camp technical crew have other commitments or need a bit of RnR I can't see why we'd have to be so far away from the European and North American segment of the contest.

And that you've already been to Race Camp :sly:

EDIT: Honestly, it is physically and emotionally painful to read media releases on the competition right now...

So the public qualification ends on 28 July. If only we knew the date when the national finals take place!

So who is phoning in sick for work on the 2nd july? im planning a bout of flu that starts 08:00 GMT/UTC on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013.

Strangely my boss wants to know why my flu is so specific :scared:

If you have a Hungarian passport or citizenship and if Hungary can compete then maybe 👍

Croatia will be part of European Union from 1st July so I don't need hungarian passport, borders are open. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be allowed to sign in through some other country. Damn I hope I'll get chance finally, even through wild card event!

Even though it's a real shame my country is not part of this party good luck to you and all those eligible to compete 👍
