GT Academy July 2013!!

Nice to see some familiar faces, I haven't been about here for a few years but I'm trying GT Academy again this year.

Currently just on the skirts of the UK top 20 with a 2'17.877

Good luck Ian - hope you make the cut. Seems to get more competitive each year but that might just be me getting old. :ouch:

*** PLEASE HELPME*****
Hi guys, I really need help. It probably sounds ridiculous but I’m not able to reach the first screen we see In Tidgney’s video, the Wheel Settings page Setup. Where do we have that option, PS3? GT6? My wheel is very heavy and I do not know how to change that configuration, in result, I can’t improve my time of 1:20:021. PLEASE, HELPME!

Go to the main menu, press start, go down to options, steering controller, then steering characteristics. :)

Well done Spurgy on that lap 👍.

Personally I think it is getting less competitive in terms of trying to get into top 16, well in UK and some other regions, Spain looks tough. I can imagine if they put into action new rule, next year laps done on day 1 might be enough to qualify and comfortably potentially.

LOL you might just be a lot better than last year saidur:sly:

New rule for next year to ban old faces returning is stupid if they want to bring in new faces just take 60 people to the final let them race in heats without ghosts and light steering

I can see its not fair to go to race camp and return but you've only played gt5 at the national finals and done an autotest at national final so thats no advantage at all

What is this new rule you speak of? I can't commit to it 100% this year so would rather know now how the in-eligibility works for this year. :)

Thanks! 👍

And you might be right, just had a quick comparison between the world rankings of UK drivers now and last year, and all but 2 of the top 16 places are lower down the world rankings, some by up to 40 positions. However, unlike last year, the top 16 is mostly bunched up towards the cut off time, so it's competitive in that respect.

Thanks! 👍

What's your rank now spurge?

I think though looking at times, for it to be as competitive as before, something like 2:17.2 should be time to just get into top 16 in UK. Remains to be seen how leaderboard develops in the week and a bit remaining.

I think a .2 should be comfortable, the leaderboards have really slowed lately, probably because of burning out and also people now struggling to get times, I think a .5 will probably be a drastic cut off, but something I definitely wouldn't rely on! It's nice to see the UK being fairly competitive again this year though, with spurgy and bandit, and just the top 16 generally being competitive vs alot of countries (No comment on spain that's rather nuts :yuck:).

1st/6th in the UK/World :)

Nice work Spurgy :)!

After some close analysis between my lap and Tidg's I have the following:

T1) + 0.260 -- (+ 0.250) -- + 0.007/s
T2) + 0.809 -- (+ 1.069) -- + 0.014/s
T3) + 0.312 -- (+ 1.381) -- + 0.008/s

I think we can see where I'm slower.. well inconsistently slow :D if I use +0.0075/s for T2 then it should put me at +0.449 (-0.360 on my T2) which would put me in at 2'18.136 (rank 35)

My current target is about +0.005/s which would give me a high 17.7, and I have achieved this in T1+3 on other laps.. just need to sort out that T2

This is the thing .2 should be borderline if this year was as competitive as say 2011 or 2012.

I think another factor is probably there is less people trying as hard on TT. This may change in the next week or so though.

If qualification .3 or .4 is needed then it is not so bad for competitiveness for UK leaderboards given 5 online qualifiers from last year can't take part. If there is one next year, it is worrying for competitiveness as I think top 16 will be the biggest off the pace in terms of gap to world number 1 time there has been. I suppose it will give more people chance to compete though, those who put in the effort but just miss out.

I see Spurgy has improved again 👍. I am tempted to setup my DFGT again, clearly you can get strong and consistent pace from one of them wheels.

True, I mean if Rutter, dan and others were in it would be a .2 borderline definitely, but I suppose sometimes it's not all GT which is the reason for getting through more people to European finals, and it offers more opportunity for everyone. I'd still give the TT a go next year if I got through to the European finals or won the entire thing ;)!

I personally disagree with the national exclusion (If it happens) as if I couldn't go this year to some random issue last year that would be very annoying, unless the systems changed this year where more people are put through more of the other aspects rather than GT races :)?? Come to think of it which game will we be on as well :P? All very interesting :)!

It is good that they increased count of people who can go race camp 👍.

Stopping people from being able to compete due to reaching territory finals is a bit harsh I think but I guess it is trying to get some "new" people instead of getting same people trying it over and over again. I hope they don't put it to action but if they do, at most for a year. Imagine being one that suffers a lot of bad luck on day 1, either getting hit off track or suffering technical failures that don't warrant enough for a restart. GT Academy dream could be over even if you are at a high level in all aspects required to do well in competition.

Kaz being quite secretive, I would think next one would be GT6 on PS3. Might help with sales too.

Yeah I agree Saidur. It's some bittersweet news, because on one hand it excludes the career Regional finalist from really getting a fair shake, but on the other hand it kind of confirms that they definitely plan on continuing GTA into the forseeable future, which is great.

Good work spurgy, doing it for the uk.
think people are jumping the gun abit, it hasn't starting hotting up yet, cut off times will dramatacly plumit between now and deadline, espically being 16 that go through rather than 20 that its been some years, still maintain a high 16 for cut off, knowing how it gets tight it gets from previous years.
I need to start getting motivated, only played a couple of times in last 2 weeks or so,
don't rule out banksy, he's always up there. also can think of a couple if other names thst will come through at the end for the top 16,

You really think that 16 people from the UK will manage to get into the 2:16s?
I highly doubt the cut off point will be much lower than 2:17.5

Yea, well will be far better than .5, it's .6 now and only just over half way through.... If its anything like previous years.... Still a few names to show up yet

Is anybody using a DFGT getting in the 2:17s? I can't do it :(

Spurgy is using a DFGT 👍

Maybe a few people still to turn up but even with those, I think we won't see it go lower than 2:17.3 It's not easy to do a 2:16.9..

I agree, the cut off time has been coming down very slowly over the past few days, and not for lack of trying, new times are coming in pretty regularly.

I've got one and I'm sure several others have, so just keep trying, you've still got a week and a half which is plenty of time to improve 👍

I should've started playing the game earlier, only started from the last Nürburg seasonal event lol. I can never get the first corner & copse bang on. I must lose about a second just from those two corners.

I never know exatly went to downshift too, so the car just feels unsettled into a corner
