GT Academy July 2013!!

I don't know tbh, if I had something to compare to then maybe I could tell but I'm used to my wheel so I really don't know :scared:

I just got a G27 yesterday. My time with the stick is 2:20.3. With the wheel after one session I got down to 2:22 something. I had 2 maybe 3 clean laps.

So I think Bandit makes a great point. How do you know what the G27, or any wheel for that matter, should feel like when you don't have something to compare it to?

I'm just assuming that my new wheel is fine. Some things I find odd. For example it is hard to keep the car straight on a long straight because minuscule movements send small amounts of feedback through the wheel, that I just wasn't feeling with the stick, and can cause the car to wobble.

Anyway I love the wheel. It will take some time to get used to.

Yep, will be hard to know. Only thing I can suggest is if you get more and more used to it, but still can't feel instinctive with FFB, then it might be worth trying to get a replacement. If it feels the same, then it might be a chance that it is you not understanding the way FFB is trying to communicate but there is a chance it could be broken still.

Car wobbling is normal with these wheels on Gran Turismo so you have to keep hold of wheel.

Good to know. Thanks for that. For me it is back to GT5 license tests. I need to sort out how to do the basics like correcting. With the stick I can quickly flip it to the limit right or left if I need to. With the 900 degree wheel there is no way to turn it that fast that far. I'm guessing I shouldn't realistically need to turn the wheel to the limit. ... I'm learning how to drive again :scared: but I love it!

I've love nothing more than to change feedback in-race. I need it slack for Copse through Stowe and taut everywhere else. As it stands now, I want to chuck my Pro through the window but I'm stuck with it for now.

900 degrees is a lot. when I got my first wheel which is long time ago now, I turned the wheel too much. Now I don't really use more than 45-70 degrees

That makes sense. I watched Tidgney's awesome video and noticed that when he needed to correct he only moved the wheel at most 90 degrees.

Managed to do a 37.480 first sector 👍 It's all about getting the car to the apex at a slight angle and then being so precise on the throttle, literally 1mm too much throttle and you will spin up the wheels too much, but if you get it exactly right you should get a great exit 👍

You tried my technique for village at all? I swear there's a .3 with a perfect village, nice sector though mate 👍!

I couldn't work out quite what you were doing with the gear shift :P
I have adapted my line though, I go a bit wider now, it allows me to get back on the power way before the exit and carry much more speed towards the loop, whilst still being on the right line :)

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention, it was on the second lap of the stint, so, either your theory about reduction in grip from the tyres is wrong, or a .3 is definitely possible!

Just did a 2:16.655 :D S1 was a 37.494, also gained 0.04 on Ti-tech through the last sector making my new theoretical best a 2:16.442 :)

Still struggling for improvement. I've been on holiday for nearly 2 weeks which hasn't helped matters. Impressed with those, like Spurgy,
who can get in the 16s with the DFGT. Do you gain an advantage with G25/27 or the T500
RS because it feels more realistic, particularly with the pedals?

Coming in a little late on this sorry, but I was using a G27 and just recently switched back to my DFGT for some better braking feel. The G27 was feeling a bit numb to me so I switched and have improved my time. Working on getting comfortable with the wheel again and should be in the mid 17's by the end.

Well done Spurgy!!!
Sick S1!!!
I just did a 17.196 that could be improved if i wasn't too nerveous at Maggotts,Beckets, Chapel and Stowe

Thanks! I'm hoping for a 2:16.5 by the end but I'm racing in Jedi this weekend so won't be back on GTA until next Monday :(

And great time, not too far off the 16's so probably won't be long before you set one :)

Just need to transfer your virtual skills to reality and you should be fine for the win, remember to keep minimum speed as high as possible by any means possible including sliding around corners and smoking the tyres .

Hey everyone. Did a 2:17.577 the other day, 7th in the US, 126th "In the world" (Jeremy Clarkson Voice). I never expected to be this high up on the leaderboards, I think I finished like 300th or something last year. Does anyone know where the national finals for the US will be held this year, in the case that this time holds up somehow? Thanks and GL to everyone competing for the top spots!

You are 2nd eligible in the US right now. I guarantee you could stop right now and still go to the finals. While it is true there is still a lot of time left. I don't see the eligible cutoff going below a 17.7

Wow!! :) Hopefully it does hold up because I don't think I have much more time left in me lol. Have they not released the location of the national finals yet or am I just not seeing it anywhere?

Slim chance that the in October 2013 we will see a GT Acadamy for Australians heard that from a reliable source from a reliable source lol

Struggling to find a few tenths in the first sector. I'm fairly inconsistent on the first corner, & I find it difficult to drift through the 3rd corner & back on to the throttle. Anybody got any tips for that?

I use the hand brake there, I can't drift there either.

I think that corner is called "Village" (the 3rd corner).
And I find it to be the easiest one to get that perfect slide.
Cause you stay way left after turn 2, and while you're braking, you start turning in while progressively easing of the brake.
The car will naturelly start to slide, and from there, it's all about timing as in when to get off the brake, your steering input, and when to apply throttle.

I would'nt use the e-brake, but perhaps it's working for some.
But sertainly not for me.

Good luck!

Cheers for the tips guys. I was 0.250 off Spurgy after a try, just need to make it consistant. I think I'm capable of getting a 17.5, nothing more. Not sure if that'd be enough to qualify though

Hey Guys !

Just got registered in this forum, found it interesting when it comes to sharing personal experiences in the 2013 GT Academy.

I am currently on a 1.18.384 with a DUALSHOCK 3, but I'm trying all my best to gain half a second or more, do you guys think this is realistic ?

What surprises me the most is the 1.16.890 set by spanish VTR_puzzle, do you think he uses any special controller ??

Thank's guys,

I don't think he use a special controler. Maybe he only has a lot of spare time  . I've race with people really fast with the DS3, so i know that it is possible (Senna_46,doodlemonoply,THE-STIGS-SON83,PoytVanDyck, Samurai_405,etc).
