GT Academy July 2013!!

Hey Guys !

Just got registered in this forum, found it interesting when it comes to sharing personal experiences in the 2013 GT Academy.

I am currently on a 1.18.384 with a DUALSHOCK 3, but I'm trying all my best to gain half a second or more, do you guys think this is realistic ?

What surprises me the most is the 1.16.890 set by spanish VTR_puzzle, do you think he uses any special controller ??

Thank's guys,
You with a DS3 made 1.18:384. That's fantastic!
I think VTR_puzzle uses a racing wheel.

I am getting sick of drifting being the fastest way round the track, i thought this was supposed to be a simulator?

On another note, spurgy, you DEFINITELY have a .4 avaliable!!

Had a go on TT yesterday again, it was over 9 days since last time I tried properly. Anyway was a bit rusty, but started to get into the zone after a while but never managed to pull off a 2:16.9 or 2:17.0 or 2:17.1 . Always seem to mess up on last sector especially.

My current fastest time is 2:17.441, even though I messed up Sector 1 a bit, was good enough for something like .580 sector 1 which is not to far off leaders but messed up the other two sectors. I either seem to get good first half of lap and mess up the ending or the other way around. I might keep my wheel for weekend and try and break the 2:17 barrier before sending it off for replacement.

Trail braking is a real life skill, it's just been exaggerated in GTA. And yeh, my theoretical is a 2:16.4, but the problem is doing it

I been trying that, watching the top 10 replays, struggling to get the back to flick out the way they do into a corner,
like I can just about keep up in the first sector, probably about 0.8xx behind, then it all goes wrong from there on lol.

2.23.243 is my best so far, got me to 3232rd in UK last night, so so bad when I first tried it though, like 2.4x.xxx! :embarrassed:

so don't play often enough anymore lol,

but then even the top 10 have ABS on 1 too, anybody tried with ALL driver assists off yet? Yes, ABS off as well lol, got down to 2.25.xxx that way n getting better slowly

2:16.3 is possible 👍 Realistically, I don't know how far we will dip in to the .4s Immortal has done 3 small improvements over the last 2 days and he still hasn't managed to topple Ti-tech or Miguel

Stuck at 17,608, for the last 3 days, I know that time will not get me to the final, I recon the cut time will be 17,5xx 17,4xx or even lower, the more frustating is, I know what i have to do, i know where I have to do it but I just can´t put a decent lap together, every time I get at corps in front of my gost I just brake too much and lose all the advantage....
Well 9 days to go, got to keep the motivation..

I'm in the same boat but I'm stuck on 18.0,
got penalised harshly with a 17.9. Village is my weakness, I can't get the speed with the traction out of it, so my first sector times are around 38.0

its the drifting that is costing me, on the turns that you don't drift i can easily keep up with the fastest people, as soon as its a drift turn.... i lose at ridiculous amount of time. The two GT anniversary time trials probably prove my point :-)

This is why i still prefer forza, its just pure racing and the only track you need to use handbrake on is Top Gear!!

Hello GTPlanet,
reading here since GT Academy started
amazing how some of you can do a 16.xxx :embarrassed:

im however stuck at my 17.303 now for almost 3 days
i know im losing 2/10s at Brooklands (and then i do 1000s of 17.3s and .4s, where these 2/10 of Brooklands would come in handy)

strange thing i've noticed
does the grip or the best groove change when you go to main menu and back into the game?
i took the same line for hours and when i went back to the menu (f.e. load another ghost) and went back to the track, the same line in Brooklands sent my Nissan out or made it spin (same line which worked all the time), so i have to do different approach

its only in Brooklands, anyone noticed this or is my mind playing tricks on me?

Brooklands is killing me :D
i can do every other turn with eyes closed lol

long first post lol :P

I'm gonna send my G27 off for replacement too 👍

Spent the whole afternoon installing my new wheel on my rig :D Had a quick go and it's much easier to correct slides, particularly on power, I won't be having to restart 10 times before I complete the first sector now! Still need a bit more time to get used to it, but after that I should be quicker and more consistently quicker 👍

What wheel is it? Sounds like it's more suited for these new physics.

Im guessing a t500rs?

Why are you guys thinking your g27s are worn? What symptoms would I have?

Yeah, T500 RS, got it for about £340 which is quite a good price 👍 I don't know whether it's just that the motors in my G27 where worn out from overheating, but it's great, force feedback is amazing, and the fact that the pedal box is metal means that they are so much more customisable 👍

Another interesting fact, in order to get a similar force feedback strength to my G27 with FFB set to 5, I had to set the FFB all the way down to 1

I wonder if they'll use the T500 for Regional/National/Territory (gotta love how people are using all three variations there xD ) Finals 'cause iirc they used DFGTs for the European Finals last year while we had to use the T500 and get used to the horrible pedal feel in the US Finals.

Let's just hope we get the new revision 👍. Good wheel when it works properly.

Feeling at one with car makes it much more fun too and easier to be faster. Robot driving is needed when wheel is not working properly, hopefully I can transform into a machine over the weekend to do a reasonable time before sending off G27 .

I guess this smiley describes how top 20 are feeling, striving for perfection: :banghead:. Good luck on your battle for top UK spot and even world, will be interesting to see who will get that magical lap.

T500RS has issues with it too, warning in advance, hopefully you got the latest revision, but warranty should cover things if they do go wrong like with fan. I think there is like also a small pedal deadzone IIRC, which might make you slower if you don't take it into account. Good preparation for national finals though, the one I used at GT's 15th anniversary event felt great with GT6.

UK had T500RS too.

Yeah, I think I should be able to relax a lot more when driving now I have a properly functioning wheel, should be much easier to put it all together into one lap now, just need to get used to it :)

Well, I know 2:16.3 is possible with my best sectors, so hopefully once I've got used to the wheel I'll be able to string a lap together 👍

Yeah, I heard about that, I haven't noticed any deadzone, interesting that it also comes with a progressive brake mod, I might try it tomorrow although will take a bit of adaption from my left foot.

The reason I got it was because it's used in the nationals, my dad also said he would make a contribution to it, so I couldn't really refuse haha! :D

If you can do fast first sector ones already with it then I think it will stand you in good stead.

Relentless push and some luck will be key, best of luck on getting that .3 time.

Best one for fast driving on GT will probably be the spring with least resistance.

Good idea, I might get one next year unless there is a new official wheel for PS4 coming out. Should give you a good advantage but I think you will be fine as long as you drive within safe limits as you should have speed to spare to get through.

I'll be interested to see how you get on with the t500 rs good to see a new thrustmaster team mate 👍
Should have bought the wheel in may from pixmania I paid £324 plus I got the Ferrari f1 add-on in the price :sly::sly: think they made a mistake and I got lucky :)

set ffb 10 not fast but is much more fun

The UK Nationals used the T500 to :P as it was at Silverstone last year :)! Otherwise it's usually the DFGT :P!

Man, could've sworn they used DFGTs last year over there, wonder how I got that notion.

You guys definitely had an upgraded experience compared to us though.

You had headphones! And you didn't have to deal with commentators criticizing your moves live.

True dat, I know how annoying that is from Redbull Gridsters, but at that event they got my name mixed with another guy, so on one race they were saying I was in first and I was actually in 3rd. Mainly because they told myself 3 different places to sit so they got all confused :P!

We did the year before at Brands have the DFGT so that might be where it's come from :)!
