Don't worry.. there is still hope for me. :) And yes, London would be a nice place to visit.. I haven't been there either. Well, 2 weeks to go... better keep practising... :)

Lets hope so. I think some small convictions like speeding tickets etc etc are not big issue in this competition. I had convictions of driving without license in my youthness... five times in fact... but it's almost 20 years ago, so I hope it's enough time gone. Paid my bills, and I never stole any, I had a job, and buy my own RWD:s.

In my opinion, it just shows my commitment for driving;) Ruin my life just cause I wanted so much drive like Ari Vatanen. Then came Gran Prix sims, GT1, and saved me from bad end.

who are the 3 lucky:sly: ones??....

spyrrari.

I don't know first and second but the third i believe was OldBeane the guy who came second in the first stage of the competition...Drofnud who was first did not qualified for the third round. All of us drove without warm up and the worste thing was that we could not ear the car because of the general noise (be at the motor show was not a great idea). The stearing wheel was not set properly (probably default) force feedback very pour. In my opinion the three guy who went through deserve it cause they were the fastest and the driving condition were the same for everyone. Congratulation to everyone, peresonally i had lots of fun.
Ciao

Hello
Of which version was "looks like" the behavior of the cars???because it was not the last update in the final but maybe it was Spec I only...(if there wasn't HSR in the select tracks menu)
And do you have warm up before the first qualif?
Thanks

Hi.....
no warm up at all for us

Hi Dawmon

Great to meet you and all the other guys! Had a fantastic time and it was nice to put faces to some of the lads here. 👍

GTGENIUS1982 was first, but I can't remember the 2nd guy's PSN ID (I know his name is John...)

I agree, it was VERY difficult driving on the day for the reasons you've mentioned above - when I got home, the first thing I did was try the time trials again... I bet everyone did!

The three guys who got through absolutely deserve it.👍👍

Well done boys and keep up the good work, England expects!

I believe the top 3 were GTGENIUS1982, Nemmeh and Oldbeanee. The very unlucky 4th place went to Andy_616.

I ended up 5th just missing out on the semis by a couple of tenths. I was a little disappointed but the four guys above me were consistently good all day and thoroughly deserved it. It was very close between all 20 of us. In the end driving skill (which everyone clearly had) took a back seat to who could hold their nerve and adapt quickly to the strange set up and high pressure environment.

I won't talk about the format here or via PM as we were specifically asked not to. I'm aware the information is available but if there's even one person due to take part in a future final who is not aware of it, this is unfair and would put that person at a big disadvantage. I wasn't aware of the format beforehand and wouldn't have felt 100% comfortable taking part if I had have been.

I can say that the day itself was highly enjoyable and made moreso by meeting some really nice people and making new friends.

Hope there's more similar competitions to come in future. 👍

Strange setup – that’s an understatement. Lol

4th place driver was incredibly unlucky. I was watching the other driver so didn’t see what happened at the start.

Having to initially use a DFP was a real let down. I completely lost all respect for the organisers when the various faults were immediately pointed out to them yet they did nothing. The bloke with the TV remote was looking to get himself a beating.

Anyway, biggest disappointment was myself outright. I’d never played the game the way they had it setup. Was my own fault. When I finally got home on Sunday morning (flight delayed) I went out in the first car on the second track with the same setup and was 4 seconds faster after 9 laps. First couple of laps I still sucked but once I’d got the feel of it I was flying. I’ll know better if there’s ever a next time.

Great fun. Went wandering about London on the Saturday. Basically had the day to kill.

Found a Cuban bar in Camdon where I actually got a very good pint of Guinness. One very happy Irish man.

I also heard talk of people being distracted by the GTR moving in the background as it was visible through the perspex of the setup. The place it was set up could have been a bit better as a few people on the 4th unit had random people come alongside to take photos. Not ideal. After my friend got knocked out we had a look round the motorshow and went outside for some fresh air. And beer.

Here's some pics.

and wow, that z350 race car looks sooo good!!(the scratch on the front whas probably made by a none gran turismo driver:sly:lol)

the dutch final will be held in a night club(where i had several nice evenings....:scared:)so there will be for sure not much destractions i guess....

cant wait:)

spyrrari.

It showed the leader board. It was good but didn't update live. I was wandering about checking times to see where my mate was in the standings as he was driving.

The last pod had a DFP for the first 3 drivers then the organisers change it to the new Logitech. Muppets. The other 3 all had the new Logitech.

Same crap everywhere!! ..this is unbelievable keeping in mind the money nissan + sony has put in this. 👎

but Congratulations to all participants!! ..and the ones to go through to Silverstone.. 👍👍👍👍👍

@timppaq,unreal isn't it...really hope the dutchies next week will have put some more effort in it,otherwise this is just a big lottery and they are not really searching for talent.....makes you wonder what and who came up with this acadamy, and if its just a advertisement stunt or not....:indiff:

well,i hope they will prove me wrong next week....

so,are you going to the finals or not??

spyrrari.

and congrats to the other UK players..

Thanks - way too kind! :embarrassed::embarrassed:

Be careful - I might start believing it! :dunce:

Much easier to put in fast laps from the comfort of your own room! I have a G25 but use the paddle shift.

Go on, I'm sure you can find 3 tenths. 👍 Then find another 4 and you'll be top - easy! :scared:.

POPO the final was with tyres S2 so theres one sort of tyres during the final?

Congrats for your final i hope to meet you at Silverstone ill know this saturday

yap .. everything with S2 Tyres.. but i wouldn´t be sure that it is the same in the next finals because after the Update last Friday the game is something different now!
(N1 to S2 Tyres)
we used old physics, but i think thats only because they had no chance to update in such a short period of time as they had to prepare and build up everything for our final at that day!
also in every final i heard from, there has been little differences ... we used pro-physics in comparsion to spain and we didn´t drove the Round 3 like in the UK and had just 2 of these GT-Academy-Simulators!

I must say it was a good event the UK finals the way they treated us was fantastic, I felt like a member of the national football team or something and enjoyed chatting to Georgie Thompson and David Wilson from Sony UK (head of PR), very nice people.
It was great to meet all the other competitors too we all had a hell of a lot in common.
It wasn't a fair even by any strech I mean I had to go first which meant 16 other competitors could study your laps over your shoulder and also had a benchmark time to aim at straight away. Also having qualified 12th they strangely let 3 competitors go again for another 3 laps because they said the wheel was no good even though 2 had got through to the next round no problem !
The re-runners went straight out next round of course ! I should've kicked up a fuss but I didn't want to lower the tone of a wonderful day I mean anyone who was knocked out by someone going again should've been allowed to have a go on the said dodgy wheel I think, but I'd love to know how 2 guys qualified for the next round if the wheel was broken !
One of the re-runners(the other two crashed surprise surprise) knocked me into 13th and out which was annoying since I had practiced the GT-R at Suzuka all week, rightly guessing the car for the next round.
It was a great event well organised and big thanks must go to Sony, Nissan and the Jardine people. My only critisism was the playing format which spoilt the actual play I feel it affected the results. Next they need to bring the players to the booths in groups seperately and then take them off to another area and no re-runs.
regards davissi

I’ll see if I can explain this correctly davissi. Mind you, it’s just my opinion and not that of the other two competitors that also had a second run.

The DFP provided had no feedback at all. Zero. I complained about it after my first run but was told it was the same for all even though the other 3 pods were using the new official wheel. There ended my complaint. When driving the second track I weaved the car from side to side yet felt nothing.

The time on my first run on the first track was slower than my second but on the second track my time was worse in the second run. I over run the last corner on the last track which immediately put me behind for my last lap. I’ve no idea of my overall time from the first run and had no idea what it was before we were offered a re-run. When offered the re-run I remained at the far right of the stand. We were told we could re-run and set new times or accept the times we had. I asked for the other competitors to be informed before anything took place as it might be deemed unfair. Maybe I got through in the first run. Maybe I didn’t. I didn’t care.

My poor performance was completely my fault. I too guessed the cars, tracks and format. I spent my time practicing 3 lap sprints. Here’s the kicker though. I never changed my settings to mph as we drive in kph. Not a major problem but combined with not having a driving line I was unsure of my entry speeds into the corners. Basically I blew it. Ironically when I got home and turned off the racing line I put in times that were 4 seconds faster then the time I set on the day after 9 laps.

If a mod feels I given too much away please edit my post.

thanks for sharing your experience with us davissi...and unfortunate you did not make it through:ouch:

this idea of yours to send the ones away out of the room before their turn is up is a wonderfull idea...fair is fair!!

to all dutchies,do you agree with this??should we bring this up next tuesday???

spyrrari.

well.... YES! it have to be a fair game next tuesday.. but i think we dont have to make problems that are not really there.. yet ... we will see next tuesday

Guys, I know all of you who have already competed had a great time and want to share your experiences, but mentioning the format of the competition (see a few pages back) is giving those on this forum an unfair advantage.

I would hope that anyone who has yet to compete and knows the format of previous stage 2s would mention this on the day so that Sony could mix up the format a bit and put everyone on a level playing field.

spyrrari honestly trust me not knowing the benchmark target and everyone watching you, where you shift, where the braking points are is vital. I put in 3 perfectly driven laps not a wheel out of place I think I crossed hands twice in my whole run but my aim was to not drive off the track and all I did in reality was left myself as a sitting duck as my time was relatively conservative. OK 12th was enough in the end but to then learn that some people were to go again was the double wammy that took me out, it doesnt matter that the wheels were down on power they have already had 3 warm up laps as citer laps before having 3 fresh laps and a target to beat already knowing the braking points, gears and acceleration.
Competitors need to be brought to the stands seperately and then taken to another holding area I hope some of the people who haven't had their finals yet don't get caught out also it seems that pushing like crazy and risking messing up one lap is more effective than trying to drive clean all the way as a strategy.
