:) It was great fun very clean it was just that me and Alex were like a team supporting each other and that was the first race where we were together and I was excited about where he was and had a feeling that was him LOL.
Its a funny old thing how it goes in terms of making mistakes, at the next race at Fuji it was a bit hairy on the first lap then I found my lines and I had a great exit out of turn 4 on lap 2 onto the back of Alex Ingram then decided to stay to his left and the back end touched the kerb and sent me straight across the other side of the track, my hands were like a Catherine wheel trying to get it back but I hit the barrier before I caught it and that put me straight. Alex then overtook me clean and finished nicely ahead.
I think the Fuji track was the one where you would gain 3 seconds in about 6 laps of practice, my normal tarmac brake references weren't there for a start.

I don't know how anyone else feels but I'm really really glad we didn't have to race the normal car.

I can't believe how quick Silverstone is coming up I really hope Alex and John are fit ?

I was so happy we didn't have to race normal car! I literally had nightmares about that car during the TT!

It was so difficult to judge braking as we had never been on those tracks with the 370z with the exception of indy. Looking back almost a week later i wish we were doing it all again. It was great fun!

Just out of interest did anyone begin fitness training incase they made it to sliverstone?

Thomas

I've been training for a year, running(5km hills) and cycling and free weights not as like an obsession with the competition because we didn't know when it was coming next but just I thought I'd better make sure I showed my determination to show that I was capable being in my mid-thirties and that I just felt I was letting my fitness slide a bit generally.
Apart from all the driving I was really looking forward to being perhaps the oldest but still really enjoying the run around the track and the assault course.(if they do the same) Those cars look like they needs a good bit of monstering too and not doing any training for that I thought would show also.

Pretty impressive training there, wish I could say the same about myself lol, haven't done much at all, just 10 minute jogs around the block once a week for the past 2 months.

That is impressive david. Will you keep doing it for the next academy? I started running around january doing about 3 mile every other night but did nothing strength wise.

Looking back at the daytona vid brought back memories! I was 2nd on grid & on inside for turn 1. I got a great jump of the line and led into turn 1. Then through the quick right left i had mirror full of blue (alex). He slipped underneath me at hairpin, i tried to run round the outside of him but there was a little contact from behind which forced me out a tad. I tucked into his slipstream, then at turn 6 i said right lets have a go round the outside here. lol. Alex was too wise for that! Then david & i were side by side however id inside for turn 7. So out onto the banking/straight i was in Alex slipstream while David was in mine. Coming to the fast chicane i misjudged Alexs braking & accidentally give him a nudge. We got through ok anyway & now tanking down the straight. Because of the nudge Alex was about 6 car lengths in front but with slipstream that caught up. I then said i'll not pass here i will let him tow me round. Then David comes steaming past us with both 2 wheels on the grass !! I was like  In the draft your carrying alot of speed down there & i got braking all wrong & crashed!:ouch:

I see your focus is on driving not running Dan, maybe one point to beat you :sly:
I did a lot of sport the past 2 weeks, jogging cycling and a 1,5 km swimmingsession at the indoor pool, additional to my common programm of Table Tennis and Kung-Fu every week.
But i think my problem will be the driving part because my last drive on a dry road without winter tires was 5 months ago... :ouch:

Try and get to an indoor kart track?

It's the best way to freshen up on your skills involving grip and is great for improving a sense of balance from a vehicle.

As per not driven on dry roads for 5months, I don't think I have either and no doubt that won't change for Silverstone either. It's going to be mucky out there :)

Table tennis? I must play you...:) See you soon mate

I've read somewhere (probably on FIA page) that it uses the VQ38HR engine (the same as the GTR, I think) running naturally aspirated 380hp.

GTR uses a VR38, which has very little in common with the VQ series. (initial prototypes were based on VQ40 though), I imagine it would have a VQ38HR as thats what Nismo has tinkered around with for the 380RS

Zocker, you should have mentioned that about table tennis in the last Academy

Offtopic: Dan, if I'm not wrong you like poker, don't you?... Probably we would have had some nice matches if I had win the Spanish finals :P

I wish I'd had done more sooner... I go running once in a while, and a few weights and stuff occasionally. My job keeps me pretty active, but I would have liked to do more cardio stuff on top of that. Basically, I think I have a decent level of base fitness, but I know it could be better.

On the plus side, I had a good 40 minutes of track time in a Kart yesterday, for free! I told them what I was doing and why I needed the practice, and they very kindly invited me along. Thanks Raceland Edinburgh!! :)

Best of luck alex & john! Keep us posted on how it goes.

The fitness thing is partly a mental battle. They'll be looking for the person who is prepared to cough up a lung if it means finishing a run, not necessarily the guy who strolls across the line in 1st without breaking a sweat. You can always work on fitness, but attitude is deeply ingrained.

Sounds reasonable.

Was surprised at the lack of fatties at the UK Final if I'm honest. Infact, I believe I was the only one sponsoring a beer belly (or two).

Nothing that couldn't be sorted dude, its easier than reversing age trust me LOL I'll be 38 in May ! I'm probably the only one who if I turned up out of shape would've been pointless bothering. The fact that I'm older I wanted to leave in the hands of the organisers not in my own hands if you know what I mean.

Just had a proper look at the uk final nurburgring lap I did a 7'29 and throwing the car off and into the barrier on the off chance it might've put Alex off cost me just under 9 seconds so its no wonder I didn't quite catch up, that's 7'20 pace, I would've had to have done 7'17.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing Silverstone footage greatly, damn shame Arnaud isn't there though.
