Hobson Motorsport to field their GT-R in the penultimate round of the Aus GT Championship at Eastern Creek next weekend. First time it's seen action since last years Bathurst 12hr.

I'm only up to watching pre qualifying so far. I just want them to show that beautiful Honda NSX with the Castrol livery

*edit* can someone make a Total 24 hours of Spa 2018 thread? Or is it not as thread worthy as n24, le man's, or all 21 f1 races?

SRO announced a new GT2 class to run a few races next year with a bigger rollout in 2020 for Blancpain and PWC. AM only which is interesting. Going to make the PRO GT3 battles more interesting.

Need to wait for more information, but... giving the AMs 100+ more horsepower over the GT3s? I'm nervous to that being the best solution.

That amount of power would put them above a global LMP2 car, and on the same level as GT500 (I realize that's without the weight and downforce levels of a either, but still).

Huh... Odd decisions from SRO IMO. Unless there's a subset of AM drivers in GT3 & GT4 that want to race something like a Ferrari 612 Berlinetta, or a big Aston-Martin I honestly can't see why this new "GT2" class would exist.

Yeah with that much more power and less downforce seems like it could be trouble. Especially in the wet. Now I know these are more "professional" AM's but....

I don't like the idea of GT2 cars with that overpower, they will be to fast and this is not sound bad, but what I love about GT3 races is that the speed of the cars is perfect to have exciting and good battles with a little touch here and there, with the speed of GT2 cars a little touch can cause an accident, hope they just run a very few races.

They'd probably be slower than Super GT500. Those cars run wheel to wheel, door to door all the time. So do (V8)Supercars, with about 650hp.

I’m not a fan of this decision.

I can see very expensive accidents happening.
I feel that's one if the main issues. The next being development to make them even faster. I love GT4, but I wish it stayed like this :

I'd hope prices of GT2 cars, don't start sky-rocketing out of the category, once manufacturers start chasing aero upgrades.

It opens up a lot of questions to be answered. I guess we need to know what the SRO are actually aiming to do with GT2. If it's what I interpret, which is speed up the AMs so they can compete with the pros, it seems like a real recipient for... maybe not total disaster, but bad things to happen. Not to mention that the SRO would like to start GT2 in 2019. And it's about to be August of 2018, and this is the first time it's been announced publicly with no mention of what manufacturers are interested, or what cars are coming.

So one of the screen grabs from the presentation that wasn't posted in this thread was that the price of GT2 was supposed to be in between GT3 & GT4 cars. How that will be achieved is beyond me.

Yeah this is heading down the wrong path for numerous reasons.

Lamborghini have just released a new Aventador upgrade that’s 15 odd seconds faster than the previous around the Nordschleife.
It comes with active aero, ‘optional’ Pirelli Trofeo R tyres & they’ve managed to get 9000rpm out of the V12.
It’s now the fastest ‘Production’ car record holder, 3 seconds up on the 911 GT2.

There’s an onboard video floating around the net somewhere & its a lot more work than the 911 let me tell you

Jeez, baby steps, please. Okay, I can see 5 seconds.. But 15?! What the heck was holding up the previous car? Sticky tyres, some canards and a higher rpm? Must be more to it. Probably NOS under the passenger seat cushion.

That GT2 almost sound like modern day Trans Am. Heck, SRO could just use the MARC Cars. Any engine and shell, work on those. I mean, I wish them success for whatever they have planned. We'll see what rolls out the trucks.

Yup which is why I pay $3/month to avoid geo blocked content.

Out of curiosity, who are you paying $3 a month to? It's not blocked here in the UK, but I have friends in the states struggling to watch it.

edit: Apparently its not Blocked in the USA on the Blancpain Website.

Ditto, I'll be keeping track too. Really keen to see how this one goes, enjoy the Spa 24 hours. Below Le Man,I'd probably say the Spa 24 hours is one of my more favoured endurance races, above the Nurburgring 24 hours I'd say as well.

Was waiting for the NSX to finally make it's Blancpain debut, so it's fantastic to see it make it's European debut, so I'll be supporting them, keen to see how they go. Otherwise, I'll be keeping track of the Emil Frey Lexus', same for both Nissans. At the front, it's been good to see #62 Aston going strongly, showing there's life in the old girl yet, so will be keen to see 'em go strongly. On the whole though, looking forward to another cracking endurance race 👍.

In case anyone's having issues with any of the YT feeds, I'm been using the official websites stream, not sure if it's geo-blocked outside of Europe.
