GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

Nice, I was probably the only Canadian tuned into the livestream this year, hoping to watch some of it again :P

So a little birdie told me that Jann won't be GT racing this year. Seems he did an open wheel test and impressed enough that he's got himself a F3 ride.

Go Jann.

Is this really a vertical move? I think I'm right in saying that a large amount of F3 drivers end up in sports cars or touring cars... Why not stick around?

Ain't he racing in the Toyota Racing Series? He has been confirmed for that on various websites:

Edit: Looking more into it, seems very short series and maybe will be a test to get an F3 ride. Trevor Carlin seems impressed: http://www.paddockscout.com/gamer-mardenborough-could-make-f3-switch-after-impressive-tests/

If he's anywhere near Felix Serralles or Alex Lynn, he's going to have a competitive F3 season. Assuming he does have a British F3 ride too.

My info:
For those who do not get to read Autosport Magazine there is big news regarding Jann Mardenborough in the current edition. Having taken on a few F3 test sessions with Carlin, Jann appears to have impressed the testicals off the team (words of incredible and staggering) and is to switch from GT cars to F3 for 2013. To begin the new year he is off to compete in single seaters in New Zealand, now the last Alpha Sport driver to race in NZ won all but one race, no pressure Jann just go do it. Interesting that some people figured that what Nissan GT Academy set out to accomplish was simply not possible.

So the FIA GT repackage has been announced with the 2013 calender looking like this:

The calendar for the 2013 FIA GT Series is as follows:

1 April: Nogaro, France
21 April: Zolder, Belgium
14 July: Zandvoort, Netherlands
18 August: Slovakia Ring, Slovakia
13 October: Navarra, Spain
16 or 23 November: Middle East (date and location to be confirmed)

So has this plan to merge the BES and GT Open to form a GT World Series gone down the tubes then? That is what I had read. Not so much merge but teams can compete in both and both series offers points toward the standings.

Certainly this idea of "One manufacturer, One team" has finished. A number of teams have expressed a desire to do it and some could be racing with the same car as another.

Belgian Audi Club WRT (Audi R8)
Vita4One (BMW Z4)
Reiter Engineering (Lamborghini Gallardo)
Sunred (Audi R8)
Phoenix Racing (Audi R8)
HDC (Mercedes-Benz SLR)
ProSpeed Competition (Porsche 997)
Novadriver (Audi R8)
Rodrive Competições (Ford GT)
Sebastian Loeb Racing (McLaren MP4-12C)
BMW Team Brazil (BMW Z4).
Hexis Racing (McLaren MP4-12C)
Sofrev Autosport (Ferrari 458 Italia)
Sainteloc Racing (Audi R8)

So in effect five teams are looking run the Audi R8 LMS, two teams are looking to run the BMW Z4 and two teams aiming to race the MP4-12C.

Also the GT Series could include a Pro-Am class for young drivers which I am happy about. Hopefully this will see teams who do both like AF Corse produce talent to go on and work in the main GT team.

Pretty sweet video! Thank you for sharing Turbo! Hope to see more of those GT-R GT3s out there this year!

Wow. No Astons? No Corvette? No GT-R? Sorry, haven't been following the news, but wow. Also very interesting about the Z4 being picked twice, since it's 1/10 the base price of any of its competitors.

Most of the teams mentioned in the list have expressed intentions to do the series and also theirs a lot more to come which will take it to the 20+ I am sure I read somewhere the SRO is looking to fill.

Are any of the cars going to have works support?

I am not sure. I don't know of any team competing in the GT scene who has works support.

Does anyone know the 2013 roster so far? I am aware of the teams and the numbers they will carry but not the drivers.

I think Alvaro Parente, Stef Dusseldorf and Simms is driving for Hexis Racing with Rob Bell, Adam Carroll and Nico Verdonck will drive for Gulf Racing, Leon Price, Rob Barff and Jordon Grogor are with Von Ryan Racing. Karim Ojeh will race for Boutsen Ginion Racing. That is all I know of the McLaren cars.

Marc Hyek and Peter Kox is the pair for Blancpain Racing in the Gallardo.

Racing the BMW Z4's is Ludovic Badely and Henry Hassid for TDS Racing and Maxime Maerin, Bas Leinders and Yelmer Buurmann will compete for Marc VDS Racing in the #3 car and for the #4 car is Markus Palttala, Henri Moser and Nick Catsburg. Whilst for ROAL is Michaela Cerruti, Edoardo Liberati and Mario Ferraris.

But that is all I know. Theirs loads more teams who have confirmed entries before the test at Paul Ricard but no names with the numbers.

Cannot wait for tomorrow's race!!! Based on practice times it looks like it can be crap shoot on who wins either quali or main races!!

There's a Youtube button on the GT site that takes you to the series Youtube page.

All the races are available to watch there.

It's not very good at not giving the result away though.
