GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

2013 is just going to be a continuation for most team in terms of development. Porsche teams will just have to grit their teeth and try to develop whatever areas they can to give them the upper hand over others.

Two car teams mandatory again Stephan... no...

Privateers and single car teams are part of racing. I'd much rather take a field full of 1 car privateers or part time teams then 12 or 14 who have to be in every race. It's not GT racing or promoting racing.

This ^^

Could organise a class title called Privateers Cup where if you don't have the financial means to field two cars and can only run one, you can still enter and come away from the season with trophies. And if teams are charged a fee for entering a championship, speaking as someone who knows nothing of the financing of a season by a team, that could be cheaper for Privateer teams than the bigger teams in the GT World Series.
Look at what the NGTC regs have done for small teams in the BTCC. The low cost has allowed small teams to have a go in the BTCC. BTC Racing and Tech-Speed are two small struggling teams that have for me been able to come back at last in part surely because of the cheaper cost of entering.

It would, yes, increase the field, but it would have a far smaller range of exclusivity also I am thinking. In other words more teams who want to race but don't have loads of money, would be able to finance a season.

The Privateers and Independent teams are the backbone of most championships.

Yeah...have it like NASCAR or Indy Car. The BTCC is like this too....correct?

Don't know about current BTCC, but back in the day it was rare and exciting to see a privateer make a podium finish, mostly there were just a couple in the top 10. But they weren't getting in the way, either, just filling out the field, helping the sponsored teams to shine, playing the underdogs, and occasionally making for a really great race. They did get their own championship, too, which was also fun.

I heard the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Racing Series will be coming stateside next year.. Is that true? :)

Oh my gosh I hope so. That would be awesome.

For those who dont know, the 25 Hours of Thunderhill is going to be this weekend. Lots of SCCA and NASA cars there, and a couple no-names like Johannes Van Overbeek, John Fogarty, and Bryan Heitkotter

Buddy of mine is driving alongside Tristan Nunez in a Mazda!

I'm here right now. All of my picks for overall winner have been wrong. The vln Audi TT is done, the Bimmerworld M3 is way far down, the 997's have both had to be worked on, and the Davidson prototypes also had long stops. Ah well

Ok, first race I've ever been to, and it was just awesome. Go Pro and (horrible) photos to come.

PS: The "Motorsport Solutions" 997's had a bunch of men milling around them wearing Flying Lizard uniforms... Talked to them and they said that they were doing the engineering for them. A bit of practice for next season perhaps?

My guy finished second in class. No ABS for 15 hours and a 5 minute penalty for some issue with a pit stop. The ABS was worth about 5 seconds per lap. They finished 2 minutes behind the leader. Can't expect much more than that of the drivers.

Which car were they?

Edit: Jk. They were in the car that had all the young guys.

Ah, he won the championship in the MX-5 Cup didn't he? Is this thread for any kind of GT and Sports car racing discussion? Like SCCA, etc?

Yeah. He is an AWESOME driver and a great guy too. And he has a Scottish accent. :D

I think it was two years ago, he was coaching a driver in USF2000 for the season. The team finally told him, they would let him drive a race. They chose Lime Rock, his home track.
The car was second hand and the team really was track. There only mechanic was 16 years old. In pouring rain, he qualified fourth out of 24. At the start, he was in first before Big Bend. He went on to finish second.
Holds a bunch of records in Skip Barber, including the most positions made up in a single race. 36th to second.

Wow, that is pretty amazing. 👍 Does he still coach? I'm going Skip Barber in the summer, maybe I'll get him as my coach? :P

He doesn't coach Skip Barber. I met him when he was an instructor at an indoor go kart place in New York. He quit that and went to move to a stock broker's play ground called Monticello Motor Club. The money there is ridiculous. Saw an MP4 12C at a different track with him once. I was drooling. He said "Meh, I've driven three of them." Me "Dude!!!!!" Him "I like the 458 better though."

He's doing one of the continental tire series next year in an MX5.

I'm starting to find that I have very few pictures of the 55.... and even fewer which are any good.

Anywho...
