GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

I want a better one. GT1 has gone down in recent years like speedster said. I wish there was a bigger Field and more rounds.

I suspect that both the world championship and the european championship will be sacrificed on the BES altar.
On the other hand, I also suspect that BES will expand to more rounds, and possibly go to russia as well as the middle east.

National series will also be more solid, and ADAC GT, already well attended, will probably grow out of being a strictly national championship.
Another championship I can see benefit is the International GT Open, wich has enormous potential, and may ultimately take over the euro championship.

Ratel has announced his plans for reviving the GT1 championship:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/101532

The short version is that he wants to bring the GT1 championship and the Blancpain Endurance Seires - which SRO also manage - under the banner of the "GT World Series". They will be run as two separate championships, with teams and cars elegible to enter both. BES will pretty much remain as is, featuring longer races, while GT1 will be reconfigured to have shorter races (possibly with only the one driver competing). In the same way that Indycar used to award trophies to the best road circuit racer and the best oval circuit racer, there will be trophies for the GT endurance and sprint series, though the drivers' championship will be abolished. It appears Ratel wants to encourage teams to strategically choose their drivers from race to race.

Also as a heads up British GT heads to Silverstone this weekend with a breath taking grid of GT3/GT4 cars. Should be great.

Awesome news regarding GT fans

http://www.britishgt.com/newsitem.php?key=1668

With all to play for in the final round of the 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship, further news has been announced that it set to see a sports car spectacular at theupcoming Donington Park weekend (29/30 September).

SRO, series promoter for both FIA GT1 and British GT, has added the final round of the FIA GT1 World Championship to the Donington round in place of the event scheduled previously at the Buddh International Circuit in India.

In past seasons British GT has run alongside the Blancpain Endurance Series, but the addition of the FIA GT1 World Championship is somewhat of a coup, and adds to the vast range of sportscar exotica on-track over the weekend.

It is like having Easter and Christmas on one day for me! I hate people who live near Donny right now! Ha ha ha. They are so darn lucky to be able to see this spectacular. It will be wonderful, I am sure, to see the best teams in the BGT and the best teams in GT1 on the track (of course not at the same time.).

Wow, thanks for that! That's awesome. (I live <45 minutes away :sly:)

Edit: £15 on the gate for the Sunday, £25 for the weekend. What a bargain!

I imagine they would be free to choose drivers for whichever events they saw fit.

I presume then teams have more than 4 drivers than just AF Corse because I know AF Corse has a huge squad that includes drivers in the LMS, GT Open, WEC, GT1 and GT3 because I am a fan of the team.

Would then, as a result of this, the drivers of both series could end up looking at each other and assessing whether a move to the other would be good? I hope so because whilst I would love to see 'up and comer' drivers like Benji Hetherington move to do GT1 I would love for someone like Stef Dusseldorp or do to the British GT.

Incredibly unlucky for Hexis there.. A puncture/supsension damage in the lead going into the hairpin and while going slow through the Schumacher S blocks his team-mate who loses 2 places as a result.. The boss was not happy at all in the interview!

Oh my gawwwwwwwwd.........

Awwwwwww, I was going to post that! :grumpy:

Despite how good it looks, knowing how big and fat the road version is, that just does not fit on a race track in my mind.
Eager to see how it does come 2013.

Tell that to the guys here that try to run Grand-Am and the ALMS. They basically have to run 2 different cars for what is effectively the same type of racing.
ESM, AF Corse, Flying Lizard...

As I recall, thats exactly what the DTM and Super GT series are trying to do.
But those are "Super Touring" Cars, not GT.

Sorry charlie but the only differences in the ALMS GTC class and the Grand-Am GT class are air inlets, front splitter and rear wing. Other than that, after Grand-Am takes over the ALMS in 2014 the GTC cars can move over to Grand-Am with little modifications. I know there are GTE cars also in the ALMS but the cost of those cars has skyrocketed. GT3 should be the format for GT racing in the US.

Most GT3 cars can run in Grand-Am with slight modifications from their European formula. They will need a thicker roll cage, the Grand-Am splitter, air inlets and wings. Plus they will need to remove their anti-lock brakes and traction control. They just need to get their cars certified and pass the safety regulations..

What I would like to know is what is the cost of running the current GT1/3 car as compared to the full blown GT1 cars of old? I'm thinking probably not much. I love how there are so many entires in BES but not GT1 or 3:(

I think some how all sanctioning bodies all over the world that run GT CARS should come up with a way to make all cars to be in the same classification. That way you can take your car to any series in the world and run it.

I think that would help the Sillyness immensely!!

I would like to see the ACO eliminate the GTE-AM class and replace it with GT3. Then it will be only minor changes needed for cars to be able to run all three of the top 24 hour events in the world. Start the year in Daytona, then run LeMans and end up at Spa. The biggest hang up would be the thicker roll cage tubing required by Grand-Am

I think the roll cages will go the way of the ACO regulation. :(

Just had a bit of rain at Donington - made the VW cup interesting at the Melbourne hairpin!

Alex Buncombe went fastest in warm up I think on wet tyres but it dried out towards the end of the session where the slicks were better.

Dunno if anyone is watching GT1 but the #17 BMW just had a big crash with the Ford GT just after Redgate. Got a neat video along with some pics of it as well.

Looked like the SLS's fault from where I was stood. Took a long while to get Buurman out the car after he hit that stone wall and much harder than the Ford GT earlier, but I hope he's alright.

From 14th to 1st in 3 laps for Alex Buncombe!!!

Edit: And pulling away fast! Rain expected in next 15 mins apparently

Thanks for updating us Adam. So glad you get to see the race, you know we're all pulling for RJN!!

Does anyone know if this is being streamed at all?

Gap down from 10 to 5ish seconds back to the Mclaren. And the forecasted rain hasn't come yet.

Edit: and the Mclaren in 2nd spins in front of my eyes!! Gap up to 13 seconds

Slow stop for the Mclaren. Jann now in the car.

Nooooo smoke pouring out of the left rear tyre for the #35 after Jann being in the car for no more than 2 laps. They've pitted and it's apparently suspension failure .... End of race. They'd dominated the first hour as well. Commentator had just said he'd seen Jann go over a kerb on the replay, I think. Such a shame.

Confirmed rear suspension damper problem. Jann's back out into the race but many laps down.
