Been on the forum for years and only just spotted that there is a GT thread! 🤦‍♂️ I absolutely love the GT3 category, has provided some of my favourite competition cars and racing of the last decade.

Changes in the last few years have meant that, in my opinion, it is nowhere near as good for spectating as it used to be (especially if you like taking pictures)...

...that said, it is still my favourite all tarmac UK circuit: plus it is also the closest circuit to me as well!
I'll get there one day...
It's the furthest from me though 🙄

Oulton is my closest, but Donington is my favourite and not too far.

And yes, this thread is great! 👍

Oulton Park is one I'd love to do. I have done most of the rallycross circuits in the North, but not Oulton.

I haven't been to Donington Park for a few years. I liked it, but the circuit looked like it needed some love at that time. I think there has been quite a bit of investment since though, so I am sure it is better now.

There are a few OK circuits in the South (Thruxton is decent and Castle Combe is basic but good with the right event), but Brands Hatch is by far the best. The Brands Indy circuit is good, the GP circuit is excellent. So glad World GT makes a stop there. Long drive for you, but definitely worth it!

I think it is brilliant that the British GT Championship is so strong at the moment. I went to quite a few British GT events in the mid 00's and I started to lose interest as the entries were dwindling and competition wasn't that great, came back to it in 2015 and couldn't believe how much it had turned around. I have loved the last couple of seasons.

Donington is much better now.

Oulton is definitley worth a trip.

Yes, I've been going since 2021 and the crowds are getting bigger year on year!

They've sorted out the infield at Donington now so it's much better. 100% agree on Brands, the fences round the GP circuit, and the closure of Sterling absolutely make it worse. Oulton is great for many of the reasons Brands is, so is well worth a visit.

Silverstone remains... ****.

The fencing on the GP loop is excessive. I can understand the knee jerk reaction at Sterling after the car jumped the barrier, but what they have done round Westfield is ridiculous. I have been told that all happened in order for them to get DTM back... and that didn't even last two years. 🤦‍♂️ At least they have left Hawthorne alone, but so many great camera spots now obscured by fencing.

I hear the praise for Oulton Park: I need to venture up there!

Dreadful, dreadful circuit. The worst in the UK in my mind. Absolutely horrid for spectators. I will admit that I did enjoy the rallycross events that were run there a few years ago, but every other race meeting I have been to there has been awful.

Well, Bathurst 12H numbers are still low. Meanwhile, the support race has about 50 entries.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the 12H drop a tier with a GT4 field. I bet GT4 European Series and GT4 Asia would jump on that. Their respective GT4 series start in 3 months. I bet we’d see grid numbers like Spa-Francorchamps.

I just bought my ticket for the Spa 24H - and as a special 50th birthday bonus, I used birthday money from my parents to upgrade to the grid walk as well.

It seems like a bit of a rip, considering the grid walk at the Nurb 24H is free/open to everyone, but the grid walk at the Spa 24H looked like something really special, and I know what it feels like to be trapped on the other side of the fence and watching those lucky folks on the grid next to the greatest GT3 cars and drivers in the world. I also wanted to get something 'different' so I can tell my parents what I used the money for, rather than blowing it on booze and pizzas 😅

And an extra little bonus - my ticket for Spa is in fact a combi ticket for the Nurb 24H as well - it's an insanely cheap €120, and it is 50% likely I may not even use the Nurb part, but having the ticket anyway is great :)

Crazy bit of detective work, but I think I might have found the people that I met at the N24 last year, armed with nothing more than their first names and one blurry photo of them taken from a distance at 2am 😅 I've sent them friend requests on FB, so they may not respond even if it is them - but I reckon at least one of them is definitely the right person - it would be great to see them so I could repay them for their amazing hospitality last year; pity I didn't think of asking for their contact details at the time!
