GT Sport GR Supra Cup Returns for 2020

This is a really great case study to show all those people that think FIA needs to go back to only 1 slot. It promotes very aggressive driving. I'd like to see those who want it convince the people in here that got completely wiped out that it's better this way.

I’ve always found it to be the opposite, the quality of FIA racing declined a lot when it went to multiple chances, but the bigger problem was when less races counted towards the final score. Both take the importance off of each individual race so all that matters is the big scores. People take a lot more chances when they know they can just try again. Yesterday was the track and too many of the “I hate road cars” crowd trying it out more than anything else, all the Supra races last season were sedate since everyone was in fuel conservation mode.

The incident, how does this happen in an all A+ room?

Sucks. I'm a bit perplexed how people can blow that chicane braking zone... they might as well put a bit "BRAKE HERE!" sign up on that overpass banner... it's not like it's hard to know where most people are going to get off the throttle and brake. Punter must have had a brain fart but it's disappointing that he would press a guy on the first lap, should have either stayed to the side of him or given space, for sure. That's the kind of stuff that gets you tossed and banned in the real world. No excuse for it, in a lobby of experienced drivers.

People treat the Supra like it’s a racecar.
It’s not. Whipping out of draft last second to slam brakes and pray abs default fixes it is NOT good, but I’ve seen replays enough to see that people are trying to race it like an f1.
It’s a road car sports car, the racing gonna be rough no two ways about it.
Qual isn’t super important in this car from what I’ve seen...

I had a super intense and fun race in the NA top split. There was some rough driving that I was able to benefit from and put in a great result to start the season. The pack I was in was mostly clean other than a few mistakes into turn 1 (me making one of those mistakes).

All in all, I'm excited for the rest of the season as combos like these really suit my driving style.

Here is the race from my point of view, I made it from 10th to 3rd in the first lap, fell back to 5th and made it back to 3rd for the finish because I was nicer to my tires through the race. It was a blast!

Don't forget how EMEA's top split didn't even get to do this race, as their lobby got disconnected.

@Pigems very similar thing happened to someone in top split as well. I feel really bad for the victim; he got screwed over so hard from that and the incidents that followed.

Well, if the penalty system worked and lobbies didn't get disconnected seemingly at random and DR was actually an accurate measure of driver skill in theory you'd have closer racing in a one-shot system and you could have longer races since they wouldn't need to fit into 80 minute blocks with a half hour break.

On the other hand, some people (me included) just want to sit down for X hours of semi-serious racing a couple times a week, and for us the 5 slot system is far superior.

Here’s how the start of my race went down.

I was being a bit cagey and sticking to the inside for the first corner, I had seen the guy in the white car in my mirrors but wasn’t prepared for what happened next. It was like Moses parting the waves! I was very lucky not to be taken out.

It was observed while practicing for this race that, in a draft, the Supra in back can actually brake later despite being at a higher speed at the end of a straight. On top of that the car in back also seems to do better on tire wear, although this might be more subjective.

It's funky physics, but something to take into consideration.

Bit of irony in there huh. Aren’t you the hero then :gtpflag:

lol to this dude. Thinks he is all high and mighty after doing the same crap I did to him after it was done to me after it was done to him.

Things got heated, I’m not proud of the way I drove after a point and apologised.

Get over it and move on. The fact youve not attributed 1% of the blame in the situation on yourself says a lot about you to be honest. I know I’m not totally to blame, but accept I had a part to play.

We all make mistakes, some of us like to learn from them.

Let's not forget that this, the daily races, and the FIA races are amateur competitions where almost anyone with a PSN account can enter. There is almost no requirement. Many people are not even full time drivers, just people who spend a lot of time gaming online.
I am not defending the actions of these people, rather pointing out that maybe these races aren't the pinnacle of online racing that they are made out to be.
I think that this is a clear indication that professionals (those with a DR rating of B and above, for instance, or those who spend X amount of time doing practice races, etc) should have their own races. Maybe points should also be awarded for the amount of practice people do. I don't know, but until something like that happens this competition is to be noted and respected as an amateur competition.
Sorry, that is the way it is.

Sadly, a DR of B (or above from what I've read here - what would I know?) is no guarantee of being 'professional' as you put it/

Another related problem is that a B/S driver, for example, can be matched in a lobby with C/S, D/S and even E/S drivers, all because they are all 'perfectly clean'. But it's not too hard to be SR S with a few careful drives under your belt at the lowest levels - doesn't mean you'll race that way when the competition gets better...

Yes, this is a problem with the ratings system. It, also, cannot differentiate driver attitudes either. I am only a DR D rating and not quick but my driving attitude is good. The current system can be manipulated so that a quick driver who has a poor attitude can be rewarded with a high rating and compete against people who are quick, have a good attitude, and have spent lots of time practising.
I know there is an answer but I think it is just to expensive (man power wise) to be implemented.

How is qualifying going to work on Nurburgring 24h? Do we have to exit the pit lane as usual and drive an entire lap before starting our actual flying lap? Also, the tyre wear during qualifying is set to 16x.

Yup, 14 min session so you have about 4 mins spare meaning you can cruise round and baby your tyres but yeah should be an interesting 1 shot session

I have my livery applied and ready to go.

Does anyone else really hate the placeholder numberplates in this game? Its jarring and awkward to design around.

Yes. The number plate holder/bracket is one of the most annoying things PD does with road cars! The manufacturers do not create the car with them. So, why not leave them off?

Finished 2nd in second split Oceania, driving the 2019 car for "testing" purposes. Not bad considering I only had 1 lap practice  Was within 2-4 secs of the winner the whole race, intense race in terms of concentration even though there's no passing. My tyres were half worn by the end but still drivable. No fuel saving needed. Coupe of guys who pitted ended up falling backwards. You can go faster on fresh tyres but on Nordschleife where passing is difficult it counts for nothing.

IMO the 2019 car is much more agile than the 2020 one (almost 20lbs lighter and more open diff), but top speed is 2-3 km/h less on the final straight (due to being 20hp down). I lost ground on every straight, and clawed it back on the twisties, especially the bit between the 2 Karussels. Fun game of cat & mouse. Would I have won if I used the 2020 car? Hard to say really. I might be able to keep up closer but as they say, catching up is one thing, overtaking is another ;)

Good luck people. Remember the real enemy is the track here. Just drive at 95%, keep it on the black stuff and you've already won. Oh and brake earlier than you think for T1, as always

1 lap practice or 80 laps practice, I treat every driver the same.
I know that I am not quick and I think that I performed better than my expectations in this race. I had always had trouble with this track and a high horsepower road car was daunting but I am glad I stuck with it.
I qualified ok and infact my outlap was quicker than my flying lap (first time I had gone under 11:00 minutes on an outlap ever). Qualified 12th in the end. I kept pretty clean in the 2 race laps and finished 13th, getting over double the points I got at Fuji.
Looking forward to the La Sarthe track. I love the big old endurance tracks :)

You were correct just had a go and the rest tyres were shot on lap 2. I'm assuming an adjustment in driving style Vs using TCS?

I drive with TC off so not sure how it'll affect it, though tyre wear seemed relatively even all around, though it does help to avoid sliding
