Mouse support? Oh snap!

I'm sure it will be one of the first livery made for the Mercedes AMG.

Could be useful for the livery editor?

That's interesting. If using livery editor as similiar as using Photoshop or CorelDraw in computer than it is a nice idea. Give better control to set and adjusting layers, shapes, colors etc rather than using pad.

Tough. I'd run the Hatsune Miku livery and be proud of it.

There is nothing wrong to have anime or manga characters slapped into race cars. Even I still waiting when there is F1 or WEC team started to think differently and use this kind of livery. Definitely going to attract lot of attention (and different reaction as well).

The point of being race cars is about to gain attention isn't it? So as itasha's. Some people think it is ridiculous to put it on road cars (not me, I'm okay with itasha's). However, on race cars it is completely different. Instead it looks eye-catchy with lot of vibrant colors combined with nicely drawn character make your car stand out on a grid imo.

Or if you want another way to being stand out than you could simply slapped this on your car...

Some of these liveries seem like they'll take months to make. Are you mate really sure you want to spend countless hours creating a very complex livery? That may or may not be possible to create.

Personally, that's what I love about a livery editor, is spending countless hours attempting to re-create, or make my own design, regardless of it's limitations. It gives a great sense of achievement, and being a perfectionist, I'd always keep coming back to fiddle with it, making sure it's perfect . And to be honest, you'd be surprised what can be done with a "relatively" basic editor; not that it's an excuse mind, and to some extent, I end up spending more time on livery even if it can't be created properly, since I'll try to get it as close as possible, or put my own spin it if need be. GRID Autosports editor is a good example of this.

Besides, amongst the vast amount of liveries I want to re-create, including GT original classics, and legendary real world liveries, the one livery I will try to replicate in some form, is the classic HKS black-purple-green-pink combo from the 90s. And that will be a real fiddly design to say the least .

However I accept that some people may not want to spend hours designing a livery, but's it's horses for courses at the end of the day I guess.

So far, GTS livery editor looks really quite promising, but as ever, I'm not going to hold my breath, so I'm not going to over hype things, so we'll see how it develops.

Well it appears to have a layer + alpha system, and it doesn't suprise me since Kaz most likely has used Photoshop

And you can paint the body directly in this mode

something that caught my eye, "Decal Deform" - could be the ability to stretch/compress decals in any axis, or flip

I don't know how Forza's livery sharing system works exactly but I wouldn't like to spend possibly hours making a livery for my own and then seeing it on other people's cars without my consent. If liveries are automatically available to everyone, that's a very negative thing for me. I hope we can share or keep them private if we want... Well, we could even gift liveries. I wouldn't mind spending an hour creating something to give out (and loosing it). I know we won't have any copyright over any livery created within GTS but it's nice to have somethings to ourselves if we spend hours doing it. As it happens with every tune. You wouldn't like to spend hours teaking and tuning a car to be the fastest on the track and then see your sheet made public to everyone.

I know we often hear about how Polyphony doesn't pay attention to the competition, but Forza's livery (and tuning) sharing is definitely what I'd like to see borrowed for GT Sport.

Basically, every design you make, you get the option of sharing it. You can keep it private if you like, but once you share it, any player can download it, and you get a small credit boost for the download. In addition, you get another one-time credit if they "Like" it, and you get a smaller amount every single time they use it in a race.

In the 360 era, you could put a price on your designs.

In both situations, anybody that used your livery couldn't modify it. However, in the 360 days, you could "gift" your livery to someone. This would make it unlocked, so they would be free to change it (and share it, turning it into their own credit source). People would typically offer you a bunch of credits for unlocked versions of liveries. I never accepted, for the same reason you mention: I liked knowing these were "mine", even if that wasn't entirely accurate (and most of the designs were GT1 or GT2 Race Mod replicas  ).

I miss the ability to gift layer groups or liveries, if only because that encouraged collaborations within the community. The word in the community for the removal of this in the XB1 era is that it was too easy to cheat the system, and some folks had found ways to access unlocked content without the permission of the original creators. It'd be great if it could come back.

I really hope PD introduces a robust, community-oriented livery editor. It really does make a huge impact on a game.

That would be great @SlipZtrEm . Having the option to either set it to private or public is perfect. Getting credits on top, even better. :D

Looks like we can share liveries from the profile page according to the updated website. Was pretty much a given but nice to have confirmation.

How will the exclusive Decals be shared? Some versions of the game carry certain Decals with it.

The big question is what sort of limitations are in place when sharing.

If I create a livery, share it, and somebody can re-share it as their own work, that's disappointing.

Good call. Kinda seems like that will be the case.

Sorry my expression of "exclusive" with regards to the Decals is a bit premature.

I'm sure they wouldn't be that silly to make these exclusive. Having read the description a bit more they are "Sticker pack(s)".

How or what that means in the grand scheme of things I don't know.

As it's the first time GT fans get to play around with a livery editor I sure hope they just unlock everything for everyone and not have some needless grind or equivalent to impair folks enjoyment.

To be honest I don't get the point of paying 100 or 150€ for an edition and not get anything exclusive ingame. Liveries or stickers are not game changing and would be nice to have them.

I am joining Hatsune Miku livery bandwagon.

I actually don't mind them at all especially after I got curious and wanted to try Miku livery on a BMW Z4 in Forza.

Sooner or later, there'll might be a cult-following of drivers in GSR Hatsune Miku Z4s and AMG GT3s for GT Sport.

(No disrespect. I actually like the GSR Hatsune Miku liveries. That, and [almost] every race-purpose itasha.)

Well overall this is looking far more promising than I expected it to be. I agree the sharing can be a bit of a tricky area to navigate. Will have to wait and see what limitations are set in place, surely there would be some restrictions.

As for livery/sticker packs from special editions, well I'd like to think that they aren't just exclusives. To me it would be a shame to limit others just because they didn't want to fork out some extra cash. But perhaps it could be that with those editions you get certain stickers upfront and unlocked (early access) and that everyone can get them through unlocks? Like rewards and such? Again, will have to wait and see.

I'd prefer this to be the case, so that everyone at the end of the day has the same creative choices available to them. If this editor is comrpehensive enough I'm sure those with some talent could likely re-create anything they pleased, but if you had access to ready made stickers for certian logos and such it will save a lot of time.

At any rate it's all looking quite promising and I'm going to have to divide my time from driving to photomoding to this! So much to do, so little time. :indiff:

Something I noticed earlier on the latest update of the official website.

Under the "Social Features" section.
"A variety of rich social features for connecting with friends has been prepared, including a gallery in which you can display content you have created and a timeline of you and your friends’ activities. A variety of information including replays, photos, livery sets and decals can be shared between friends. The social features can also be accessed and enjoyed from gran-turismo.com as well as through the Companion App for smartphones."

Sharing decals?
Interesting when you consider pre-order bonuses.
It would also basically cancel out using Credits to buy them.

I'm not sure if it should be taken so literally.
But crazy theory time. :D

The Companion App has been shown to have a "Token Exchange" option.
What if "sharing" liveries, etc. is done via tokens?

Kind of a rubbish idea, I know.
But I'm really struggling to think of something you would exchange tokens for.
(Although it would be cool if they were used for car repairs, F1 style, but that doesn't seem to fit.)

Probably to buy decals? Maybe we can decide whether we are going to put a price of tokens with our liveries we made so people who have enough tokens will buy it and we gain more tokens, or to buy a ready to use decals available on official website/app.

"Sharing" would likely done without any price tag cause basically you are just simply share your own liveries with your friends on your circle (people who followed you and people you followed). So it doesn't make sense if you need tokens in exchange of "sharing" instead of "buying". That's my opinion btw.

Also, tokens in my experience of playing mobile games are usually being used to buy instant power ups, special content or to directly unlocked higher level/stage or even rank/class. So I guess it would be similiar in GTS, but will be better to wait and see how it works later in release.

I was just thinking, given that the 458 has no livery, it wouldn't surprise me if Ferrari cars weren't locked out of the livery editor?

I didn't think that the 458 will be locked out, because Forza and PCars have models with liveries on it. But on the other hand it's Ferrari so.... we will see. Waiting for october... ;)

The fact that Pcars and Forza have Ferrari models with livery actually tell us that it's not Ferrari, its GT.....Btw Pcars -example- have the new GT3/GTE Ferrari car (488) and not the older one that GTS has (458).AC has the 458 GT2 in the game (with livery) so again that proves that its not a Ferrari thing.

It seems to be more about licenses, maybe PD are not willing to pay the license to use the livery, laso Ferrari is really special on how their cars look, just take a look on this note about the Deadmau5 ferrai in the gumball some years ago:

IMO the link is not actually in any way associated with what we are talking here.
We are talking about liveries in the game.
Since there are 2 games in PS4 with liveries with the same car manufacturer it is logical to say that there is no problem with that manufacturer.
I find it hard to believe that somehow Ferrari do not want to allow any kind of liveries in GTS but they do allow them in Assetto Corsa/Project Cars 2/Forza unless there is a secret/behind the scenes plan to make GTS "look bad" against those other titles by not allowing them to have "liveries".
The most possible explanation is that :
A-Because 458 is an older model PD does not want to pay the money needed/asked from them for liveries in that car or
B-(And the most possible scenario) They did not have those liveries ready for the GTS beta.
