The livery editor is super cool! but really wish there was a grouping tool and colour picking pipette.
Only just getting a chance to have a mess around in the editor now, as it took me close to 4 days (I'm not kidding!) to download the update to be able to play the game, (my internet speed is 0.9 of a meg).

Anyway, here's my very early WIP, ignore the writing it's just a place holder for the proper font ATM. Will also be adding a custom number board and other sponsors.

[edit]
@jdmnsprd Try buying all the wheels, as I had a similar issue with my Beetle ^. Although I haven't put them on, only certain wheels will work with each car. 👍

[edit 2]

Can't decide which version of the 'Kamei' logo I should go with. One from the 80's or a more current one. (pics are from my old Forza days).

I had never used a livery editor before. So far, I'm having fun with it on GTS.

Your M6 is amazing ! How did you do for the rims ?
Good job !

So uh, let's say you started a livery but for one reason or another, couldn't finish it. When you enter back in to continue work on it, is there any way to colour-match the existing shapes? Because I can't find one. I then had to go and re-colour all the existing shapes to match the new one — and of course, that had to be done one at a time, because you can't select multiple shapes at once. :(

Really can't wait for that import feature!

This is really bad. I noticed it during the demo and was hoping for it to be fixed but nope. At least the colors you saved the livery with could be kept on the color history.

So I started my very first livery in the official GT Sport game and I must say the livery editor is pretty good.

Jon Olsson's Huracán is what I tried to recreate as good as I could:

And this is what I made:

I will replace the "placeholder-decals" with the original ones when the user-decal-uploader is online.
The 300 layer limit was reached as I wanted to finish the roof, but I tried to finish with a sleek look.

In total: about 8h of work and 412 layers.

The livery will be available online as soon as I put the original LeoVegas decals etc. on it.

I wish the livery editor had co-ordinates placed on screen. Trying to make racing stripes extend the length of the car is a pain.
Indeed, it would help if there were co-ordinates. If you're still struggling, try using/pressing down on (iirc) the left toggle button (or it could be top left shoulder button). It allows you to extrude the decal in either direction, as opposed to using the enlarge decal button. Hope that helps. 👍

I've resorted to placing a decal over the colour I want to recover and twiddling with the picker until it matches. It's a bit fraught, but sometimes works.
I now write the HSL values down.

We ought to be able to pull colours already used, I've needed it several times now as it's hard to get the colours right first time when they look different in the editor and in various other environments in the game.

That and the ability to group layers are my biggest wants at the moment. I don't normally bother with liveries due to a lack of talent, but this one (and this thread) has me hooked.

Sometimes being the key word here. :(

I tried that too, but unfortunately, I can still notice a difference even if the values are barely different. So, I end up just recolouring everything. Slowly.

I'm writing things down now too. But realistically, after the livery I'm currently doing, I'll probably hold off until the upload feature comes online. The current method is just way, way too time-consuming. A livery that would take about 45 minutes in FM7 (from scratch) is taking well over two hours in Sport.

Yep, it's bizarre you can't pull colours. I'm also really surprised we can't select manufacturer colours once a car is bought/won. I get the reasoning behind locking certain paint chips within the Mileage Exchange — prolonging play time — but it's frustrating that we only have three paint styles to pick from for the base coat.

In addition to an eyedropper tool and grouping ability, there's a few other things I can think of that need to be in here:
  • Coordinates. Or, at the very least, the ability to lock rotations to a set amount of degrees.
  • Pairing with a grouping ability, the option to copy/paste. I'm currently building the '90s "Mazda" wordmark, and as time consuming as it is on the side of the car, the fact I have to do it all over again for the hood is just awful.
  • One step beyond that: saving layer groups. If I want to re-use this Mazda wordmark on any other car, I'll have to rebuild it. Come on.
Most of these can be solved by the import feature, admittedly. But, that's a bit of a cop-out: it means the only way to get the most out of the game's livery editor is to have a desktop/laptop with (ideally) a copy of Illustrator. It's nearly a TPE situation: requiring something additional outside of the game to actually get the full experience.

As is, the livery editor is a distant third in the genre, behind NFS and Forza. It does have a few perks: the ability to paint/decal the "Other" category on cars, the auto-generated number boxes and driver names (though it isn't clear how Sport Mode deals with them), and the lens colour options. But the workflow is so needlessly convoluted right now.

I'm also trying to figure out how sharing liveries works, specifically if you update any. I plan on fixing up my GT1 race mods once the uploader is available, but I don't want the currently-shared liveries to still exist.

Sorry for the Double Post....

hey guys,

I use a tool for get the right Colour of a Car, it´s shows RGB/HSB and CMYK.
I am not familar with Colour Codes, but Google say´s HSB is the same as HSV, which is in the Livery Editor Provided.

HSB is from 0-200 and HSV only 0-100.

So, you have any idea, which Code I can use?

Thanks in Advance....

I only stick to colours from the palette and use the method above, place a decals on top of an existing one to get the match.
Its a lot easier if the colour only appears on the palette, trying to match one from the picker is just making hard work

Just posted this is the replica liveries thread, but wanted to share here too. Here was my first go around with the livery editor. Great feature but as mentioned, definitely needs improvement. This one was very time consuming, but I'm pretty happy with the finished product!

I always loved the Silk Cut livery on the old XJR9 and was disappointed when it didn't make it into the GTS lineup, especially being one that got the premium treatment as DLC in the old games. Decided to tribute the livery on my F-Type GR3

Edit: Thought I'd add that the tags are; #jaguar, #xjr9, and #silkcut

You guys are killin these custom made liveries. Great job, I love them. Creativity at its best. Since you all are pro’s in my opinion I think I’m in the right place to ask this question.

This goes for all cars in the game. I bought a 86 Gr.B Rally Car today. I like the game livery on it and want to keep it but I also want to a custom one. So is there a way to save a design as the original livery and make a second design and save it so I’ll have two designs I switch between?

Is there away to change and paint the wheels on race cars and keep their original game liveries?

I ask these questions because whenever I go into the “livery editor” it automatically changes the car to a blank white paint job without all the sponsor decals and graphics.

Yes, the original design will be saved seperately so you can easily switch between them. However, you can not edit any "stock" livery, that means that if you'd say change the base colour to blue, then you would have to recreate the livery completely just to keep the pattern.
