Well then we need to factor in the perspective on the horizontal plane too - objects on the left side of the screen appear wider than the right side. If I take a ruler and measure across the screen the left lane is 75mm, the centre is 65mm and the right 40mm. Measuring the 458 on that same line in the centre lane it is 68mm, making it wider than the centre lane itself. The 458 at that point in the image should not be that wide.
The only way we will be able to tell if the scale is off though is to actually have the scape and position the Ferrari directly beside the Mini.
On it. I'll do this the very second I get the chance to. Looks like this is the only way to settle this discussion.

Lol! Looks like somebody doesn't have anything else better to do but to go into unnecessary depth for a single screenshot from GTS in attempt of making a point.

This can't be the first time you have seen something like this on GTPlanet. I see people highlighting issues and other things quite often.

I think it's great though. See something this "simple" get an in-depth analysis. Even 3D modelling. It's all good!

I uploaded one of the videos I took today. It's horrid due to the glare at the venue.
It did look realistic in action though.

Overall that looks really good, not only the car models themselves, but especially the lighting of the car. I hope they can fix the jumpy shadows in the environment though, looks like the environment lighting is only rendering at ~3-5fps, look at the trees ~13s and ~20s. Probably related to the same issue that is causing the fences on the Nurb to flash during gameplay/replay.

I'm wondering if its just how the 458 was implemented. The photo can very well be accurate, but what I'm wondering is if the background was just a standard shot while the 458 was implemented with a sort of fish eye effect, making its rear a lot larger than what it actually is.

That's the only thing I can think of with it looking like it's taking up the whole lane. It can very well be something they thought they'd do to give it some more perceived depth, and to line up better with what we see in the photo.

Given how some here like technical topics :)
If you like some maths, how lighting works in PD's mind and if you can read Japanese which is not my case.
http://d65.xyz/cedec2016 (PDF link) I don't understand a single word but the maths seem accessible.

A new car and a new scape

(I love the racing version of the S-FR)

Is that S-FR have a body kit or is that a separate car? Oh, and do I love that showroom scape!!

Some serious CSI stuff going down in this thread  Thought I'd try myself, not a 1:1 match but the closest I could be bothered to do in the 30 mins I was willing to waste. Cars are to scale so the Italia I used would be slightly narrower than the GT3 I think. Sorry for the GIF size, maybe closer to the answer of the original scapeshot?? Probably not.

...and they both have interior. PD, C'Mon son!

I don't understand Japanese either but the imagery does help. It must be something about Physics Based Rendering and all this crap about colours, the light spectrum, reflection of paint and how it impacts the user. Not to mention a tonne of analysis in relation to light waves, natural light and other things related to PBR.

I also like the S-FR race car... what a nice surprise!

That location with the S-FR reminds me of this image that came out eariler.

If you look at the headlight of the car in the background. It's probably not just a background, but has some kind of light source as well.

This is the closest I can get with photoshop(use blue effect) and the light seems to dissappear with the background.

Compare to the original image.

It's the same scape from a different camera angle and apparently different time of day or filter. I wonder if this means that scapes either have time cycling of some sort and are more flexible than we originally thought.

It is the same scape and time because the background cars are in the same place.

IIRC two pictures of one of the Las Vegas scapes are out there and show two vastly different angles, one facing the front of a casino and one facing where the street would be in front of the casino but zoomed into the rear headlight of the car.

This makes me wonder whether they're two different scapes, or the same one, and how flexible the camera in scapes really is.

That is definitely two different camera positions. I'm guessing that it's two different scapes, because if it's the same they must be using some sort of witchcraft
