GT4 Bugs

Found a GT4 bug last night and it's now the 2nd time that this bug has it has occurred. I was racing in a Nissan Skyline on Tokyo R246 coming towards the end of the lap where the armco barriers are situated. As I turned into the right hander the car ploughed straight on and smashed into the wall. I was unable to reverse/engage any other gears and the car just sat there at idle around 1000rpm and the revs would rise up to 2000rpm and then just settle back down every couple of seconds or so.
The 2nd occasion I was in a Lotus Exige going the reverse route through the tunnel on SS5 when the car just snapped to the right and again ploughed into the armco barriers.

On both occasions I had entered into a Championship series and on both occasions I had to RESET the PS2 and lost all data since my last save.

HUGE *%8*up.

Quality control my arse.

:grumpy:  👎

Can you imagine having to crash-test every foot of barrier for every track? Maybe that's what delayed the game before they realized it was hopeless and just put the game out...

In GT3, if a computer car got 'stuck' on a wall for say 2 laps in a 10 lap race, when it became unstuck, it'd do lap times about 30 seconds below the minimum possible and slaughter the field by like 3 laps.

I encounter that one a lot, but a lot of times it won't come unstuck until you run into it. I've had cars go off and stall on some of the endurance races the whole time. The other day it happened to a Cobra, I knocked it off the wall, and the next lap it went into the pit area and never came out.

Another thing i remember is the wrong car shows up in the field as an oppenent, in GT3 it was the C5R in the American Champinship...and at the normal car event at Trial Mountain in GT2 the Vector M12 LM Race Car was a competitor that was impossible to catch.

I've noticed that some tracks are not available in all the arcade modes.
10 tracks are missing in the "2 Players Battle" mode (these tracks are available in the 3 other arcade modes : "Single Race", "Time Trial" and "Lan Race") :

  • Autumn Ring
  • Cathedral I
  • Cathedral II
  • Chamonix
  • El Capitan
  • George V
  • Grand Canyon
  • New York
  • S.S.Route 5
  • Tsukuba Wet
I really don't understand why ... ???
And Citta di Aria is available in "Time Trial" and "2 Players Battle" modes, but not in "Single Race" and "Lan Race" modes ...

PS : of course, I'm sure that all the tracks have been unlocked in my game.

The course registry has listed those that are 2P capable tracks and those that don't.

BTW, no one has yet to post glitches on the tracks that you can go beyond the 3D borders like the ones in the demo and Prologue. A Japanese (in i-BBS photo board) has posted about a glitch in Nurburgring (with a flying muscle car photo) and it is similar to the one in the demo, but the description is not detailed enough to get to the point.

I tried the similar one posted by ALPHA on the demo previously and that seemed to be fixed already.

There's probably data or graphical limitations that mean those tracks can't be used. From the list they've all got fairly detailed environments (ie Broadway on New York/ the Grand Canyon) or special conditions (ie weather at Tsukuba) that would make them difficult to implement in said modes. That said, it appears the Nurburgring can be used, but from what KY has said in the past about wanting it in forever, I think he'd go to any lengths to ensure two people can race it ...

And a BIG LOL @ Zerotonine ... how on earth did you manage THAT classic, my friend?

Sounds like you controller just had bad contact with the PS2. Happens to me all the time

Cheers for that. 👍
I'll double check in future that the controller is plugged in correctly before starting starting. Can you imagine just completing the final few missions in the missions hall and it all goes pear shape because the controller lost contact with the PS2. OH MY GOD!!

the Interceptor
I've been searching for a way to leave any track in GT3 for a pretty long time, but I only came across this not too long ago. So, here's how it works:

You take a really fast car (I've has the most success with a fully tuned Toyota GT one), and you drive the straight in Seattle against the common direction (or like in Seattle backwards, you know what I mean). Keep on hugging the right wall a little bit, so that it won't slow you down too much, but make sure you're touching it. Now, just ram into the corner at the end of the straight. You might also try to aim the corner without hugging the wall priorly, it gives better results, but it's more difficult.

I've you've done everything right, you'll leave the track immediatly or at least get stuck in the wall. Keep on the gas and steer right and left, and your car will get free. It happens that you just crash like normal, if so, you have to start over again. With a bit of practise I'd say it works in 50% of your trials.

And here's a little hint: if you combine this with the max speed trick (where the GT one lifts up its front and accelerates vigorously) you can reach a speed that will let your PS2 crash. I guess it can't compute such enormous values anymore, you'll reach a few million mph before it'll crash.

Good luck!

About the GT3 Seattle outside track driving...

The Seattle outside bounds trick, is best done with Mazda 787B fully tuned. It can also be done with Gt-One, but Mazda steers better when on top speed, to make that 45 degrees angle to the walls. You must at least drive 290-300 kmh!!!

Another point: this can also be done on the other side of the straight (with finish)on seattle circuit. At the left downside of the picture! But it is harder there.

Final point: to go outside circuit with the max speed trick GT-One, going outside circuit is extremely hard! Sometimes this will take 50 or more tries to go outside, because the GT-One cannot steer at all, when going above 250 kmh.

I'm playin with the Chinese version of GT4 and noticed this.

I installed a set of VOLK Racing TE37 rims on my EVO 6.5 T.M.E. and it disappeared and changed back to my stock rims when I raced it. After a couple of other races it reappeared.

I guess that is not a bug. Most surelly, you installed the aftermarket rims on the normal/sport tires. When you purchase race tires, it uses a separate set of rims, that defaults to the original ones. If you want aftermarket wheels for your race tires, then you must purchase a new set of "race" rims (at the wheel menu, it is the upper right option - the normal/sport is the upper left).

Hope it helps.

By the way, on some cars, the race rims are an inch up in diameter, compared to the normal/sport ones. At least that is what I have seen on the Peugeot 206 RC and also Nissan 350Z Version ST. Can someone else confirm this?

Regards.

Ooo!!! Cool!!! Thanks alot. I got it.

Now I feel like an idiot...

Hahahahaha

Don't know if it was a DFP or GT4 bug or even a bug at all, but on Motegi full track (forgot what car, one of those 4 all black used race cars), my rear wheels slip during a turn and suddenly I lost all power. Cruised for a while, then I brake, step on the gas, no problem again. Thought I actually blew an engine.

The reason that happens is before you purchased the rims, you were asked to choose between four different types of tires. If you chose... dirt tires, and then purchased rims, those rims would be installed on the dirt tires you bought for that car. When you change to different tires, or the game does that automatically for specific races requiring certain types of tires, then the rims and tires would be changed.

In other words, you have four different types of tires and each type can be modified with different rims.

I've gotten cars get stuck on different tracks in GT3, probably 3 different times. I've never seen them do a reverse, so all they do is keep trying to turn. One was the Coté D Azur. I think I got one stuck in Rome - reverse track? forcing it into the pits before it was ready.
Also, at least twice, I came into the pits right behind the lead car. My pit stall was directly in front. Because of this, when the lead car was ready to go, it wouldn't, like it was blocked in. It had to wait until I left. I think one time was Rome - normal track.

As far as the car going straight and having no control, we use a steering wheel and use a controller to get around. As soon as we start loosing the car, we hit the pause on the controller, unplug the wheel (Logitech USB), plug it back in and continue on. This probably happened once a night, maybe twice if we were on it for awhile.

Has anyone beaten the first Audi manufacturer race - the one for the TT's? I beat it but no trophies show up next to the race.

Some of the bugs that I've read from local web forums (in Chinese).

Source : Games Animation Forum (Hong Kong)

1. Extreme Hall - Formula GT (Chinese version only)
Problem : The Championship bonus is Cr.--, it will hang when awarding credits
Workaround : Do not press any key to skip/speed up the money awarding screens (I suppose it means the last 2 sequential credit award screens)

2. Audi Tourist Trophy (Both Japanese and Chinese versions)
No winning status was displayed in the events list, you have to enter the detailed races list to see the winning status

3. Abnormal display of Mileage meter (Both Japanese and Chinese versions)
Mileage returned to pre-race after completing a championship race.

4. B-spec bug (Both Japanese and Chinese versions)
For the Championship races that require high license to race in A-spec, if you complete the first race in with B-spec, you can enter the successive races in A-spec regardless of the license requirement

5. B-spec fuel refill and tyre change problem
There should be a time out for the selections that it will automatically change tyre and refill the fuel, but it is not always working and the car will just stay idle at the pit

6. 480p and 1080i settings not saved to memory card
You need to set it everytime you boot the game

Skipped the Chinese translation issues as most people here cannot read them.

1) Subaru is spelled as "Sabaru" in the Manufacture's Race.

2) The Audi R8 is listed as having 608 hp, but once oil is changed it's bumped to 807 hp. You've got to be kidding....

Hey, i am not sure if this has been posted. most likely... but it seems the throttle cuts out for a split second when 100kph is reached and sometimes the traction control will flash. Seems to happen with every car i have raced at least a few times. I have the NTSC-J Version. later-

I noticed this as well. First I thought this would always happen at specific points on the track, but I found out that it happens somewhere near the end of 2nd gear in every car. I didn't watch the speed though, so your 100 kph statement might be correct. :dopey:

wow....so many bugs..... so disappointed....

but i'm just concerned with the non-existance reflection image of the rearview mirror.... all it shows is the road and the cars, even the lamp posts are gone in the mirror.....
come on.... how much more power does it take to put in more background? at least put in the lamp posts and trees and fences that are rite beside the tracks...

Don't have GT4 yet. I just waiting for a pal one.

Anyways

GT2 Errors(japanese version)
400m,1000m,speed test error. If u went slower than the last record time in 400 it would stuff up the 1000. Then for 1000 if slower it would stuff up the top speed records.

GT3 (Pal version)
AI would get stuck on walls(grandvalley speed way reverse recently on the tunnel entrance), monaco(cote d azur) and other tracks.
No oil change feature while in a 10 race comp and u would do permanent damage to engine. E.g 829HP for formula 1 then 819 after oil change and engine damage.
Oh and i rear veiw mirror u never saw othere vecheles wheels and headlights if they are one.

GTConcept (pal)
The Honda Jazz(fit) when driving in auto just stays in 2nd gear at 400 revs no mattter how quick you go.

You'd be suprised how much power a full rear view mirror image actually requires. I remember a lot of racing games on the pc where switching off your rear view mirror gave you a significant framerate boost.

Had a couple of bugs last night.

One the first I was getting some cash at the Easy Special Condition Reverse race at Costa di Amalfi. I think I was in the GT4 350Z. Used my usual tactic of going by on the inside going up the hill to the first left hander. I pretty much stopped and went around the corner and drove off. About three-quarters of the way round the track I looked at the map and the AI car was still at that corner. On lap two, sure enough there "he" was just before the apex at right angles to the road. I pass and maybe get a little contact. A little further he is still there so I do a u-turn and go back to check. "He" is in the same place... drives forward... hits wall... drives back... hits wall... dirve forward. OK, you get the idea. I went off and finished the race and he was still there. You call that AI? No chance.

The other was with my car (fully tuned ZZ-II) in the Supercar Challenge in Professional Hall. I was doing the last race at Infineon. The car was going fine, then I think I may have got nudged off the course (AI?!!!). I tried to drive off and didn't seem to be going anywhere, check the gears and the car was stuck in 4th. I usually use automatic (never did get the hang of manual gears in GT). I apply some Nitrous and it fortunately clears itself. The car now feels down on power and seems to be blessed with a reduced steering lock. I managed to claw my way back to the front, proceeding somewhat gingerly to the end of the race. Bizarre to say the least. The car seemed fine when I used it again and there was no change in the horsepower when I checked in the garage.

I only kept a replay of the first incident unfortunately.

Found another "bug". A while back, I did the extremely long Formula GT event and I got gold on all of them except one. So right now, I'm redoing that one in B-Spec to get a gold trophy and I noticed that one of the F1 cars keeps trying to pit in to change tires -- but he does a drive by through the pits without changing anything. He's been doing this for the past 10 laps or so. Right now I'm in lead by about 20-30 seconds from the other cars, but the car that keeps pitting in is 10 laps back.

I did a search for GTI BUG and this thread came up, but didn't find a post about this:

The Volkswagen GTI MKIV, MKI, AND MKV all lose turbo boost when in the appropriate gear! If you rev the appropriate gear, the boost gradually decreases to 0.
Not to mention an untuned MKV has a broken 5th gear, but that's another bug all together!!

Oh yeah, and when you finish Beginner and Professional Hall, you get an "ending" credits movie. If you were to exit GT mode and go into main menu and select the ending credits movie (second to last selection before "Credits") and watch the entire movie, the game hangs after that. I remember when Nintendo had games with ending movies that just made the game hang, but come on, this is MANY years after!

That doesn't happen to mine -- could be the console.

From all the previous GT series, which game had the most bugs?? I heard of sites that point out these bugs and what not, are there sites like that?

One bug I hated the most was when u hit a wall going really fast, I think it was at Monaco in GT3, were u hit the wall really fast and you get stuck in it....lost a few races because of that, and well because of my mistake :dunce:

How did this happen, or what would cause this to happen because I still do play GT2 and well I dont want to loose all my cars man ... :(

if you register more than 8 laps time on the big oval, it will erase your garage.
