My data got corrupted about a week ago... :(

The Do's and Don'ts of GT4 Corruption

* DO keep autosave on, i don't know how many times this has been mentioned on the forums, but you can never be too, too careful.

* DO Frequently back up your data if you have more than one memory card. E.G.
when you've finished all licence tests,
after world championship
then after ANY long endurance race
when you've just won a bunch of money by doing The Capri Rally or B-Spec DTM...

If your Data Does get corrupted:
* DON'T lose hope!
This may only be me, but I started to lose interest in GT4 after it got corrupted, then started playing other games. I forced myself to play again, and i'm slowly becoming more and more attached to it... again.

*DON'T be an idiot and reset when GT4's flashing the red memory card, that's just stupid :boggled:

*DON'T throw the PS2 against the wall, you'll only cry, not be able to play PS2 until you get a new one, and if you can't afford to pay, you might become emo.

*(if you have to,) DO go to therapy, it won't hurt (and they have comfy couches )

I'd say mine is on its way to becoming corrupt.

I have already had my 100% Final Fantasy X saves corrupt and all my GTA saves corrupt and many others from my faulty memory card slot, which all in all amounts to well over 1000 hours of gameplay from the past 7 or 8 years simply gone :(. Viewing the contents of the memory card on the PS2 browser and then it disconnecting is the problem. The memory card slots are loose so you have to wiggle it a bit for the console to recognise it, yet it may disconnect at any time. Buts the same with my brother's ps2. Sometimes i even progress great amounts in a game and then unable to save it as the memory card disconnected itself. I've also had a game autosave on the main menu, right after i saved it manually (Pro Evo 2005 was the culprit :banghead:), i proceeded to switch off the console. This deleted my entire 32MB memory card. Pro Evo 2005 was traded in the next day, the day after i had bought it actually :D Luckily my GT saves were on my other memory cards.

I have been very lucky in that all my GT saves are intact, even my old saves for GT1 and GT2.

i used to back up my saves on 2-3 memory cards, but when i got bored of the original save i deleted the backup and made a new save. One has everything complete except for the missions and licenses golding. The other has all the licenses and missions complete, but only 40% complete as far as races are concerned...

My PS2 mishap is even bigger than corrupted data, as it won't read any disks anymore. All it does is go to the system menu and that's it. Nothing helps, I even tried cleaning the laser eye. Too bad, because Prologue gets really boring and I have such good memories on some tracks and cars in the lovely GT4.

:( :( :(

Get a new one, very cheap these days. If you were in the UK I could sell you my spare Slimline as I no longer need 2 of them. You could try adjusting the laser yourself but I doubt it would help, could buy a new laser for the PS2 you have but I dare say it's less hassle just to get another PS2.

My memory card get's fully backed up everyday these days, ULE is the way to go.:)

Meh, just corrupted my savegame data yesterday. I don't know why, because I turned off my PS2 properly. I always play further only to get my data corrupted :grumpy:

happened to me again yesterday.., it was because of the typhoon that struck here 2 days ago, strong winds must've knocked off some power lines so the electric company now goes to fix them.., when the power got back for 20 minutes, it got cut off, no problem there yet as I was tuning some cars. But then I wanted to change cars, so as soon as I picked a new car the Autosave was still processing when.........the power got cut off again. :grumpy::grumpy: you know what happens next.., luckily I have a backup save on my other memory card, it's about 60 days off from my real save but it's okay.., 👍

The best thing to do is to use a file manager such as "uLaunch". With this software you'll be able to keep backups of all your game saves. I have the links to download uLaunch in both NTSC and PAL. Let me know if anyone wants it. But remember it should (i guess so) be readable by mod-chipped PS2's.
You can soft-mod PS2s to run uLaunchElf. It's just rather difficult and time consuming.

My PS2 has a chip so I do not know too much about the other tools to make it work by software only. I have seen some videos on youtube with Swap Magic and exchanging discs......guess it is not the best option but it does the job.

Add me too, I got corrupted at 40.8% while I was racing and I turned off ps2. I had a backup on my girlfriend's MC, so I went to her and pass some driving missions and DTCM two times and got B license silver then I overwritten the old one, went home and... It's corrupted -.- Don't have the backup too -.-

I was always worried that mine would corrupt, ever since I got to 90%. I now own I think 8 memory cards, and the only bad thing that's happened is the PS2 controller spot cutting out every time the controller vibrates.

I was afraid that my data would corrupt, too. But my memory card broke twice before buying a current one instead :(

It was a problem with my PS2, an old model from 2002. It had accumulated quite some amount of dust inside, and disc read errors were present. The problem was that I removed the CD during the loading time, due to disc read errors. Now, I simply turn off the PS2 during loading time, and it seems to help. I also gave it a good cleaning, so disc read errors are minimized

Not sure if this may help you though, so don't try what I mentioned unless you have backups:(

Backups are still the safest option

Count me in......after one too many hack codes, I lost all the marvelous hybrid cars that I painstakenly took the time to create.........but luckily I gave a pal a copy of the card just after I completed 100%.......so I'm back in business.......just have to start over with the hybrid builds

Hi, I was once an avid GT4 player, not exactly an ace driver but a true fan. I've got my save times corrupted nothing less than six times, that's why I never manage to get 100% in this game, last time was december and I was about 83% of completion, and finished La Sarthe I 24h and Nurb 24h, among other endurances.

I already turned autosave off, cleaned memory card entrances and still got corrupted three times after that, allowing me to reach 6 corruptions. Detail: Every backup I save is deleted by someone who played the damn game and started his own GT mode ( both of my bros, the elder and the younger.. :grumpy: ). I'm also very careful of my save, I never turn off, press button, move the controller or even breath when the game is saving, ;) but unfortunately it never helps.

I've started GT4 all over again, and did only the Japan Championship, let's coun't how many days I will get till another corruption .

It's saturday 6:30PM now, corrupted again at 8%, just won the Super GT championship, saved, turned off to take a shower and had a nasty surprise when trying to load the game again.

I corrupted my game once (Thankfully early on). But just earlier in May '10, I think that my game got corrupted at 70-some percent. If it is corrupted, I know how it happened. Heard of the red loading icon? Well in that particular loading screen, the loading icon didn't turn red but stayed white, though stopping mid-spin. See a stopped photo of the loading icon and you'll see what I mean. When the icon was stuck, I waited a few seconds, then decided to turn off the game. Now remember, I only THINK that it's corrupt. Corrupted or not, I don't care. I'm gonna go delete my saved game, lose my nice garage and start all over again. No seeing if the save is okay, just starting all over. Also, I think I'll turn off autosave even though it has never done me much, if any harm just so my save game doesn't die (i.e. get corrupted) again.

Notes: I can't have a backup save cause I have only one memory card. And also, I've never seen "The screen".

One feature I don't like (That probably wasn't intentionally put in there) is how easy it is to corrupt your much-gotten-through save game. You can just turn off the game when saving or in a loading screen, and whooosssshhhh! All usefulness of your GT4 (Or any other PS1/2/3 save) is gone!
Memory cards should have been designed to hold multiple saves of one game.

ouch :ouch:, that had to hurt..,
Well that's sucky. But my friend has corrupted his fighting game save like 10 times (full memory card, accidentally told him the problem). but not that close to end i think.

Update from later in May: Deleted all GT4 data, started over. Now have gotten around 26% done.

In theory the not shutting of in autosave is simple. But its not and lord knows so bad it is.

When i was younger and this happened it FREAK and throw a huge fit. Some would say that i was over reacting but the game sucks you in and becomes very emotion after hours of license test and doing the Sunday cup high speed ring 35 times to get a 350z. And at 73% complete i have a right to react.

I am eligible for this club. Can I join?

PS good job on telling us to turn autosave off. Now I won't experience this again.

This happened to me one year after I got the game when I tried to buy a RUF Turbo R, but the error message appeared and I lost my GT4 game data. This was very annoying as I had reached around 90% game completion when it happened :ouch:

I created two game saves on two different memory card just after it happened in 2006 so I didn't have to start from scratch, and I haven't tried to buy the RUF Turbo R since. I should really try and buy it to see if it happens again.
