Yeah I like to keep the tradition, so who gets choice award for the last weeks comp?

Like I mentioned in another post and I apologize if you all have read it there, but:

I would like to do more comps as well, but I feel that a lot of the competitions are biased as to who made the design.

If you wanted to do a real clean competition, you would:
  1. Pick a subject
  2. Have a judge (or two) who would judge on:
    • Originality
    • Content
    • Complexity
    • and Overall esthetics
  3. Email your submissions imageshack link to a THIRD party who could not vote or judge
  4. The judge would pick a winner from the entries presented by the third party, without knowing who ever submitted the entry
  5. ... and award a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for the week
If it is done this way, there is no bias towards ay one person and no one could tell all of there friends to log on and vote for them.

Fair and honest

we can try that for once and see how it goes ... maybe next week?
but let's find a 3rd party person first

So I got 8 votes on last weeks poll so far, which means my online personality is becoming more popular, is that what your saying? So I can desing a crap magazine cover and still get 8 votes for this weeks comp? I do agree that a bit of favourtism is going on, so we need someone honest and reliable to make the choice awards every week and as for voting well it'll be hard to really do much with it.

fwiw eastley I voted for your cover partly to give you encouragement (you have improved greatly over the last few weeks), but also because I actually liked your cover (despite the typos ;)) If you think votes = popularity then you're on the wrong track imo, but I could be wrong.

Anyway if things ever get to the point where you are looking for people to be on a judging panel (imo you'd want at least 3 people) then I'd be happy to put my hand up. I really like these mag cover comps but I don't have the time or skill to enter, so there'd be no conflict of interest. Franz or Vicious please PM me if you wish to discuss it further.

Also it might be worth making this competition last two weeks so as to give people more time to work on their covers, they are very labour intensive to produce and it's not like we need to have a cutoff to stop too many entries coming in, might even get a few more as people won't feel they have to rush them.

What I said was kind of a joke, adding you to the judging panel would be a good idea I think. As for the competition going for 2 weeks is to long imo. I done this weeks magazine cover in a combined time of maybe 1 hour. And remember I only started using Photoshop at the start of this competition. I also manage to fit in full time study and I am a administrator at a few websites, and I have a girl friend. So fitting in a cover for this competition can be limited but I love doing it, I love the feedback and seeing myself slowely improve. I am now even considering going to a Graphic Design class and it's all thanks to you all here at GTPlanet... :)

Glad to hear that! Photoshop has hooked another .... :dopey:👍

Final Entry

There were no sources used. Be kind!

Updated 13th May, 2005: Ajusted Birghtness and contrast. No new images or text.

Updated again the next day: Added more brightness and colour levels.

I like the camera angle too, but it needs to be a lot brighter. Might want to make the mag title larger or add some colored/fancier text. You could try throwing a small picture in somewhere around the GT40 callout too. Just a few ideas.

I would change it but im not sure that you're allowed to change your final entry. Can you?
I believe that is an option until the thread is closed for judging. At that point, you are stuck with whatever you have up. 👍

One post thus far? Where is everyone? :sly:

Hold your horses.

I'll play tonight. I got my first EVO magazine yesterday. I'm very impressed by the quality.

Updated my Mag Cover. No new images or text like people suggested, because the whole idea of my cover is that it is "SIMPLY" Classic. No huge over the top headings. Just simplicity.

P.S And where are all the entries that are usually flooding the pages?

My WIP cover ... all photos editing is done
will work on the text tmr :indiff:

speeding in fish market just

I like the main subject of the cover. It reminds me of a chase scene from a movie or something. Very nice 👍

I felt like I missing something
Let me know what you guys think
Thanks ~

Updated entry again, woke up next morning and looked at it and decided I was looking at a black screen. Looks much much better now.
