ragermacBottomline Forza will not be better than GT4 for only simple but important reason in my book.
Its runs at 30fps. That sucks. 60fps will ALWAYS be superior to 30fps. My eyes can tell and I hate racing games that run at 30. I simply hate them.
flynnI tried to outline some of the main problems I see with this "in-engine" render. And its something I have noticed on lots of pics of forza.
The game engine has just a weird way of handling specular highlights, diffuse, and reflections. Not to mention there isn't even an atempt to try and simulate bounced light. In the end it makes the cars look very cg. The way it distributes specular highlights makes everything look like plastic, not polished paint.
I outlined the problem areas on the top original, then tried the best I could to fix them in the lower picture.

I hope this helps explain.....Forza may have the poly count...but GT4 smokes it in terms of render, and natural look (from what I have seen so far)

I agree that the Forza rims look better than the GT4 ones. But rims are not everything, and the overall look of GT4 is closer to reality than Forza. The Forza RX-8 has more details, but still it looks artificial.AudemardFor Gran Turismo 4 : The look of wheel rims are not beautiful![]()

f1kingyou know whayt though Forza looks like a drawing to me. Anyone else see that.
danno30Look at those rims on the gt pic. Now if anything that looks like a drawing.
I cant agree more.RalliArtEvoeither way I'll be buying forza and enjoying GT4 in the meantime. I can never have enough racing games in my collection!!!
kinigittthat actually looks so unrealistic it's not even funny.
Seriously, I prefer GT4's graphics, because the surrealistic "photo shoot" lighting on the tracks and cars is much trickier on the eyes than the smoothed out, highly detailed yet dull forza graphics.
BUT...
one thing I really don't like about GT4 is the real time reflections. They look totally bogus, especially when you're driving in a city track. Just try this out: drive a Shelby GT350R around New York and look at the reflections on the bodywork. Looks awful and synthetic. In fact, I'd prefer the faked reflections from GT3 (and enthusia) than the half-assed super shiny gloss effect.
One game that got reflections right was PGR2. Too bad the specular lighting was totally wierd (like when you drive in harsh sunlight.)
Oh, and one more thing:
Forza stomps all over GT4 when it comes down to detail. Track detail, texture detail, car detail, etc. Even in the demo. When you're playing GT4 in 1080i, it doesn't make the cars more detailed, in fact, you can notice more rough edges and butt-ugly textures when blown up on a big tv. Play the forza demo with the Evo VIII or 350Z, then play GT4 with the same cars on the same track. If you have a good tv, the details are much more apparent and you start noticing neat things like how the brake rotors and calipers are visible in forza and heat up realistically, how the wheels are fully 3d, indentations on the bodywork that would be simple textures in GT4 rather than actual geometry, and downright gorgeous trackside details like electrical wires, buildings stands, signs, etc. So people that whine about how the forza devs don't take advantage of the "added" hardware, just take a drive around the demo and open your eyes. It has jaggies all over the place, and some incredibly rough models (subaru WRX looks like ass) and textures in some places, but the details are there.
You ever hear of the term "nice from far, but far from nice"? It sorta made me think of GT4, cause when you look more closely (like in Photomode) some things make you wince.
code_kevWell PGR2 is mentioned again. Ok put it like this, when PGR2 got it right, OMG did it get it right. Yes, it did look abit off at time. RSC2 did not suffer from this what so ever, so dunno what your on about there tbh. In the demo of forza, it didn't suffer from this either, so I put it down to a dodgy screen shot.

brok46n2RallyArtEvo, Flynn - I totally agree with the poth of your posts. I recently bought my XBOX for Halo 2, but currently, Halo 2 is my only game. Flynn, is PGR/PGR2 really good? I've never played it, and I'm kind of wondering what features it brings to the Racing genre. Now onto the topic, all we have for Forza, is a demo and screenshots. Everyone knows that a demo doesn't mean a damn thing, and neither does screenshots. It's all about the frame rate, and how great the game flows. I'm not going to even compare the two when Forza comes out, I will simply love PS2 for it's GT series, and the XBOX for it's Forza series/Halo series. A game is never better than a game you think is already good, it only gives you more.
