Yea, forza does have alot more going on for it, like the damage, interiors, but it still looks like meh so it doesn't really matter to me.

Page 100 👍 yay! happy birthday thread :)

Forza looks **** hot...lets face it, but it doesn't look **** hot enough for me to buy an xbox, as its the only title I want at the moment, GTA SA....its nearly out :)

Software sells hardware, at least MS have realised that now, and I hope they inovate some quality games in the future(ok Halo is the other one). It doesn't matter how good the specs for the console is, 300 zillion Giga flops or whatever, you need games, and Forza looks like a good one.

Wow!
100 Pages, This Battle seems to be going on since Ever, and I am sure It will go on for a LONG LONG Time to come...
Anyway, coming back to the topic, Does anyone have pics (screens) of the Interior Shots from Forza? It'd be great to see what the graphics look like from the cockpit view.. Too much has been said of the Car Shadings and Reflections, but not much about the in-car / cockpit view..

An in car cockpit view would technically not be very good for simulation. If you are hardcore, and you get your wheel set up with a seat etc...then it will be retarded to have another steering wheel and cockpit view ont he screen...would you not agree? I think interiors are just pointless and another way for microsoft to BS their way around physics and gameplay and say "well we have this and they don't, buy our game on our slightly better console...but don't pay attention to how it plays, because it has back up lights and interiors"...lame to the fifteenth power.

It's not much of a battle if Forza has a minimal chance of out selling GT4. GT4 has been much too anticipated to be beaten by a game that is on it's first time coming out.

tha_con, I've read a few of your posts, you seem well informed and literate :) I'm sure it has been said already but welcome to GTPlanet.

I have to agree about the cockpit view, like many others I use the DFPro and if there was a graphic of a steering wheel on the screen, not only would it be blocking the track, but it would no doubt, be out of sync with the wheel in my hands. Dashboard, again would be blocking my view of the track...yes they are nice inclusions in the game, but I would rather see the track. Peripheral vision is a key aspect of driving, and in reality if you look you can see the bonnet, but when you are actually driving, you don't notice it

Edit:

Although having said that your posts are literate, please try to be more respectful to other members and avoid insults, thankyou :)

I could care less about interiors and as some have said, it would be redundant to those w/ cockpits and wheels. I think it clutters up the screen w/ unnecessary stuff, and I prefer the GT4 approach of just the speedo, tach and misc bits here and there. I especially like how they made the gauges a bit transparent so it doesn't feel as I'm missing part of the road or something, so that's pretty neat.

I do like the damage modeling in Forza. I hope they get it right otherwise it's going to be a gameplay disaster. PD should consider doing at least minor damage modeling in GT5 as it would enhance the game significantly. People would be LOT more serious about bumping into barriers and other cars if they had to pay for repairs or even eat the cost of a car if they total it. That's the perfect way for PD to get people to race fair! Screw the 10 second penalty, just make them pay with damage modeling!

Is there someone who played a Forza build somewhen? Because I am seriously thinking of buying myself an Xbox solely for this game but I continually see some people that say the handling is arcadish, most of the time fanboys who guess that just by watching a video :dunce: . I wanna know how it drives:it's not important if it beats GT4 but it must be close to what GT3 offered, something not so arcadish. Handling si the only point I'm doubting because for the rest,ie car number, quality of the car lineup, graphics and sound it seems very acceptable, except the handling that raises some doubts.

So what's up with physics?

Thank you for your answers.

Car interiors may not be so usefull in first person view, but it´s quite nice to see your car all modelled inside when you use third person camera.

Car interiors are a nice detail that bump up the immersion of the game imo. I myself like to see the inside of the car and the bonnet as I race as It feels more realistic.

Forza is being touted as being pretty damn realistic, so should easily beat GT3. It's being made by car nuts, with input from racing teams etc. Your doing right to ignore the fanboyish comments, I can't believe some people think it looks "meh", in my opinion it's a graphically very nice game, super sharp, loads of detail, stunning tracks, high detail cars (with damage etc), and some pretty effects. I dunno how this can be "meh".

I said the game looked meh because it looks arcade like. I admit it has more going on for it but that really doesn't matter to me because I want to drive and view, that's enough to make me happy. I could care less if the game had loads of detail, or high detailed tracks and cars, still looks arcade like and that's why I mentioned it looking meh. Board member amuse went to tgs and mentioned forza not looking all that special and it's not a contender for realistic driving sim or something like that. He said enthusia was more realistic.

edit:
I'm good with the simple first person view, I mean, how could seeing the inside of your car on a screen be realsitic? I rather get this =P

That's what you call realistic driving, but sadly no one outside of pd will experience that type of realism. So sad code can't handle my zealous self :sly:

funny thing that all the heavy hitter Sim racers feature an in car camera view (Nascar 2003 season, GTR, LFS, RBR, GPL).

It does immerse you further into the game, IMO, because you hear the car from the inside, like you would if you were racing, and you don't have an unlimited field of view (cars have A pillars, dash boards, gauges and steering wheels, why shouldnt they have at least the option in game?). You get to feel like you are really driving a car, instead of just making the scenery move along.

I don't understand why people say OPTIONAL camera views are unwarranted. If you don't like a good bonnet cam or interior cam, just don't use it in the game. These very same people will wholeheartedly agree that GT needs a bazillion cars to satisfy everyone, but not the options to go along with them.

What about a wheel with guages on it? That'd seriously be jawesome.

A peripheral wheel or a 3d modelled wheel in-game? Both would be cool, but one option would be less complicated to implement than the other. Take a guess which one that is.

*thinks for 5 hours =P*
But I'd still love guages on the wheel more than on the screen. I sit afar from my tv and I dont want to have to lean forward to see some guages.

sounds like you need a bigger tv.

I have a 41" tv but I like to lean back when I play gt3 or gt4p. I do look at the guages on screen for any gt game though but I don see the use for a **** pit but that's just me :)

haha you got **** blocked.

anyway, getting gauges to work properly on a periphal with any given videogame would be pretty damn cool, but I still like in-car camera views. In fact, they're one of my favourite things in Sim racers. I never use bumper cam or chase cam if there is a good cockpit view.

Microsoft has used a old 40 % done demo build at games events (I have posted one picture in this thread of a sign from a games event last month that said "40 % complete").
According to several sites the real version was 70-80 % complete in may.
So the demo build seems to be from last year.
All Forza videos and hands-on previews are from games events.

Videos from several games events shows that all assists are on so the impressions might not be from full sim mode. The only preview I have seen that mentions if the assists are on or off is the preview from the car section of IGN I listed below.

It's better to wait for reviews of the final game if you want to buy XBOX just for Forza.

Here are some hands-on previews that says Forza is more realistic than GT3.

Microsoft is trying to get FFB wheel support in Forza, but according to info from august they were still waiting for XBOX ports of SDKs from two manufacturers.
Hopefully they will delay the release if it's necessary to get polished FFB.
Forza will not have FFB wheel support if the FFB is not polished according
to the developers.

I played Forza, Enthusia, GTR and GT4 at Games Convention this year.
The presentation was very disappointing. They used all with the exception of nintendo crappy lcd monitors.
Because I am seriously thinking of buying myself an Xbox solely for this game
I have a XBOX and think about buying a PS2 just for GT4.

I dont understand how people can judge the controls of a game by looking a video of it. They must be some GT fanboys or in bad mood. Maybe this guys can explain what they mean.
I played Forza with a crappy steering wheel on a crappy "racing seat". Man, this combination of crappy hardware made it very hard to judge about the controls of the game. I play a lot F1C with different Mods and the GTR demo. I can't say Forza drove much different from this games. Usually i play with an Momo and not such a crappy wheel.
I dont think you can do something wrong if you buy Forza and GT4.

Well, based on driving the Nurburgring Nordschleife on the BMW Demo Disc (de-time-limited) with Road tires and DSC off in the 120i, I have to say I absolutely love the handling of GT4 so far. It's perfect. And the Nordschleife in GT is truly everything it is hyped up to be - I went to drive the real thing on Saturday, and was totally amazed - not only by how steep and scary the track is and by what amazing cars overtake you - but because I already knew the track from the game! I drove in my Alfa 155 1.8 TS, which drives very similar to the 120i, and it was truly, truly amazing. Of course the real thing was way cooler than driving the game, but hey ... ;)

What I also notice in my Alfa is that the view from the 'cockpit' in there is really good - 10 times better in fact than in any game, because I can see very clearly everything around me for just about 360 degrees. When I previously loved cockpit views in many many games, now I think that a complete view on your screen is a much better representation, and in fact still a lot worse than real life. I no longer need that thing.

Oh and I also drove a real Prius a week ago, very nice and the simulation of it in GT4 seems pretty solid, the sound you hear when you brake sounds just like the real thing. The only thing that struck me that the engine in the car was a lot quieter in real life.

Sounds awesome arwin. So gt4 is that realistic? I heard Kaz learned the Nurb by playing gt4 and he drove it with ease. Looks like gt4 can be used to train yourself for a track

I don't think ppl are judging the controls (at least the ones that haven't played it)...I for one said the handling looks arcade style...my perception from the vids. When I play the game I can comment on how I think it feels w/ controller input. One thing GT has over a lot of racing games is the replay...it is the biggest strong point in the game. That's probably why they made B-Spec. Graphics may not be as clean as Forza but damn when you watch GT's replay all you can do is gaze in awe. GTR can't match them either.

I am gald that there are so many good racing games coming out though. I feel like game developers are putting more effort in their games. GT3 was half-assed....and if there was no competition, GT4 might have been the same. Forza looked a little cheesy at first, now it looks six times better. Competition is definitely good.

I took this picture Saturday:

And then took this screenshot from the game to compare it with:

Ah, it was great to be there. Now when I drive past the 9km sign in the BMW demo I always think (hey, that's where I stood, and that's where I walked, that's where the second entrance to the Ring is, that house is what I parked the car next to, etc. :D )

I'm so jealous of you arwin!!! I'm gonna race on the Nurb one day :) Arwin, tell me, how good are gt4's physics? I mean, compared to gtr, how good are the physics?

Lucky!

So it's that good? You're not making the wait any easier you know.

Thanks to erahk64 and Stefan for sharing your experience with me and also the aticles you linked me to (very useful).

It's better to wait for reviews of the final game if you want to buy XBOX just for Forza.

That's probably what I'll do anyway, but if its that good, I wanna have it ASAP to play it, so I could buy my Xbox around Xmas and buy the game just after its release.

See ya :sly:
