Hi guys ,

Went out with my son over the weekend to get a game for him and found GT4 second hand for the PS 2 . I already had the game before I got my beloved PS3 ,but due to issues beyond my control my other son had turned the disc into confetti one day while I was out .
I put in the disc and to my surprise everything felt like I hadnt been away from it. I started the game with my controller before setting my wheel up.When I did the overwhelming reality that not only was this game so far ahead of its time but to cram all those welcoming tracks back to tie me over until GT5 comes out filled me with a new positive outlook on just how good GT5 is going to be . Although graphically you can tell it's typical PS2 ,but the game was just SO GOOD to get into .Due to a bad car choice at the beginning didnt get ahead as fast as I wanted .
Has anyone else found that going back to GT4 for a while really feels like a severed arm being stitched back on (although it did make me laugh when I went on the high speed ring to found it had been turned into a 4 lane motorway ).
The comparisons to GT5 do come pouring back via the good handling of the cars and the feeling you are getting pulled back in again.
Does anyone else feel that going back to GT4 confirms GT5 is going to be a mind blowing bag of doggie nads when it comes out .

cheers

To answer your question yes I do. GT4 was way ahead of its time, I still play GT4 regularly and it amazes me in every aspect of the game. GT5 when it comes out will most likely be the same way ahead of its competitors and nothing like we have seen before, and as soon as we start playing it we will feel that deep sinking feeling of GT mode. To compare GT4 to GT5 i would have to say its more like comparing GT2 vs GT4 (ps1 vs ps2) in this case (ps2 vs ps3)

GT4 is a snore fest now. Game play is severely lacking. AI is darn slow, and idiotic
Physics not so great, but ok. Sounds are terrible, even for it's day

Time trialing is about what I mostly do in it

I prefer playing GT3 these days, its got more fun factor. SSR5 track in the wet with a 400bhp FC RX-7 drifting is good fun. You just can't do these sorts of things in GT4, physics are messed up.

Not quite, with N2 tyres it's actually very good.

IMO the only substantial diference betwen GT2 and GT3(or GT2 vs GT4) its the generational jump(graphics, more procesor power), besides that the game its basically the same, you know, arcade, gt mode, circuits, licenses, car lot.

I spect the same for GT5(with damage and online).

The presentation and feel of GT4 is great. I played GT4 a month ago (testing my G25 with GT4) and when it started i had a big smile on my face. All the options, the relax jazz music and good menu design gifs the idea of entering a new world. Even the cars are looking good after 5 years.

But after a driving a few laps at tsukaba and the nurburgring i remembered why i din't like GT4. The physics are really bad and racing against the ai sucks. There is no feel in the cars at all, they feel like floating on the road.

The difference between GT4 and Gt5 Time Trail demo is huge. Looking at the car handling GT5 will be a completly new game. GT5 would be great if it had only one car and one track, imagine 1000+ cars. It will be worth the waiting.

The wheels tend to spin rather than the car swinging out most of the time.
Maybe the LSD don't work properly :)

With a DFGT GT4 is quite bumpy on certain tracks and cars. A lot more than a lot of so called PC Sims, except iRacing

I had spent a whole lot of time playing gt4 but i have not played the game much in the last year. But what I can say is that the game has given me so many beautiful memories like the time I was driving the minolta race car using the dfp and was able to manhandle the car at the 'green hell' and all because I had to do some training at the gym just to get to grips with the forces the car was giving through the wheel. It was a moment where I thought 'damn, real race card drivers are real strong to be able to drive the real world beasts'

So my point being? When GT5 does come out, the racing is gonna be awesome let alone my strength.

I still play GT4 more than any other racing simulator. I'm continually stunned by how well it holds up. It does some things very, very well, and other things not so well, but overall it remains a solid product even after all these years.

Whoever made the video above; no liftoff oversteer in GT4? That's probably because the wrong car was used to test it. Some cars do not lift-off oversteer much at all, some do it slightly, and some do it aggressively. One of the great things about GT4 is that the different cars do indeed handle very differently. (And, for the most part, if you want to conquer a car, then you can go and read about how to drive that type of car in real life and apply it to GT4. That's a pretty good sign that it is a reasonably good simulator. Not perfect, but still good.) The person who put that video on YouTube didn't use the Yellowbird, or the Alpines, or the Lancia Stratos, or the Lotus Elise, or, or, or... because those cars lift-off oversteer very nicely in GT4. The biggest flaw, to me, in GT4 is that they model understeer very well, but they fail to communicate that to FFB wheels in any way at all. So you've got not idea when your front tires are beginning to lose grip. GT5p is this way also. It is very confusing to be unable to feel the understeer through my DFP or my G25. The result, for me, is that my corner entry speeds in the GT games suffer considerably because I never really know when my front wheels are approaching the limit of grip. Most other SIMS I've driven, even the minor ones like Ferrari Challenge, do a better job of realistically reporting understeer through a FFB wheel.

But yeah, I do still love GT4. I love the selection of cars, the tracks, and the way I can get into my Yellowbird and have a totally different experience that I would if I got into my Vanquish, for example.

Yeah, the track selection, number of events, and the unique driving experiences of each car in GT4 made it truly epic. The only thing I'm nervous about in GT5 is the track selection... it's still not exactly clear what 20 tracks / 70 variations means. Whatever it is, I hope it's not a step backwards.

Yes, I'm another diehard GT4 fan. I keep coming back to it because it's just too well made. Tons of cars, lots of tracks, tons of cars... Seriously, there are so many non-Skylines in the game, it took me months to go through the manufacturer cup races, and most of them were a blast! Yes, the physics are dated and odd in places, and the PS2 graphics kind of cheezy by today's HD standards, but still, the sense of involvement is very hard to match with even PC sims. And replays still have an uncanny semblance to racing video. Mid-engined cars handle like they should, and the RUFs are a handful. And there are so many classes of cars, from dinky econobugs to superfast racers.

The wealth of tracks are a pleasure to explore, and the Nurburgring is just about impeccable, even to different casts of sunlight in different parts of it. I still have endurance races to do in it... someday, when I have days to blow... ;)

From my point of view this comes out: I drove GT4 all the time... and i mean all the time! (didnt play anything other, just that...) and later when i tried GT5 i was suprised and kind of dissapointed how car handled. It was handling too good for ordinary gameplay on GT4. Fortunately i got used to it and now it is more real...! cheers!

strapped myself into a Nissan GTR on the Nurburgring last night and found myself laughing to myself as I hit a set of S's.
