soun wicked, will spend some time next week though, till then, i'm taking a break from gt4 fo a while

Come on Z and MR8, you're telling me you both don't like this track? I love it here, don't let me down, I need the competition :D !

By the way Z, or anyone else who wants it, I have a great video of Senna on a qualifying lap as well if anyone wants to see a real good line....it's 11MB though.

wow... just... wow.... You guys are saying a 1'51 needs improvement? Right now I'd kill for a 1'59. After 5 laps on a practice run, my best time so far is a 2'00.399. It's a dirty run from the start, but the 2'00 is my best clean lap. I memorized the track pretty quick though. 3 laps.

EDIT: New best lap: 1'58.814

Well, I'll *try to give you a little bit of a run, but can't promise anything just yet.

Currently, I don't much like it [Suzuka]. Had a few laps earlier to get familiar with things, but I know I'm leaving a second or so on the course every lap. Degner Curve, Spoon Curve and the Hairpin [Course Map] are all problem areas for me right now, but I'll get there. All the minor elevation changes are really messing with me.. :indiff:

Would love to see the video of Senna. 👍

The shame about the video is that it's not very high quality. It's a great lap though, amazing to see Senna throwing the manual gearstick around. It also looks incredibly bumpy and physical, quite far removed from how current F1 is.

I have one of him at monaco, you should see how bumpy that was! I think it was from 1990?
(Actually the video I have was from this year's F1 race at monaco, they just had a special interview/excerpt of him during the pre-race)

The one where he begins the famous "On a given day..." speech just coming into the tunnel?

I've got that one too, I've collected a few F1 vids but sadly most of them are backed-up on DVD and I haven't really got them sorted how I'd like. I might post a list some day and see if anyone wants any, but one of the sites I used to visit got made to take down all of its F1 content for legal reasons, so I'm not sure...

Great Choice this week, much better than last week in my opinion (I hate tuning, and I couldn't uninstall the LSD Argh!)

By best Lap is a 1:51.xxx

What tyres are you all using (If anyone wants to share secrets), I'm using Mediums both ends and pitting Lap 5, just when I'm about to over take someone. I find that it's wearing both ends pretty easily.

I wonder If I can soft and two stop or superhard and no stop....hmmmm

I'm using mediums F/R and pitting end of lap 5 just as I catch up to the field (AI -6). I'd be interested to know if anybody has tried running superhards - how long are they lasting.

I'm back to work for the week so no more laps from me for 4 days.

Tried hards, and was hitting 1'51's until the the last 2 laps.

I cannot make it one stop with hards

So you're making two stops with hards? or not at all?

-----

Had another shot at it...best lap of 1:49.9xx, which was my goal.

Successfully completed 10 laps there on hard/super hard, but the last lap and a half the fronts were orange and getting pretty bad. Best lap on the H/SH was a 1'53.5*.

Gonna try SH/SH now, and depending on the result of that, I'll have to look into the time penalty for changing tyres vs the time benefit for using softer tyres.

With hards all around I was able to last 6 laps before the front gets yellow and the rear in green/lime green. I spun out before I could reach the pits... so I'm pretty sure you'll only need to stop once.

Average lap time on RH/RH: 1'51.xxx

I found some less aggressive driving, and no sand or grass visits meant i could do 10 laps on hards all round.

But its touch and go for the final lap, which means my times suffer.

I guess someone (chippers!) will figure out the best format for the race, but really there is scope for choice here.

I would suggest drivers without so much experience on this course, or who dont have confidence in their cars ability, ( you have to drive the Z "on" the throttle, it wont steer otherwise will it...) should try using mediums all round, and pit at the end of lap 5.

I havent managed to totally test my theory yet, but i think experienced lovers of this course could manage 10 laps on hards, or super hards on the front, hards on the rear, certainly, without pitting at all.

Here's VEXD's tip of the day, for those of you who havent figured it out yet: (which is probably no-one, as its obvious really)

When you select the Z in your favourites or wherever, (i keep it there, cos the nissan list is soooooo long) CHOOSE SUPER HARD TYRES.
This means the AI have super hards on (whew! glad i typed that right!) when they start the race, and if you went into your toolbox to change the weight and top speed etc, you will have set the tyres to whatever you need, giving you a clear advantage before you even start.

Im passing everyone before turn 1, and lapping the first back markers on the end of lap 4, down the straight, with hards all round.

This is fun, and there are so many ways to approach it..... hats off to CFM again.

This being my first challenge of WRS has turned me off to it. The cost of the PS2, GT4, and DFP could have gone to some nice Azenis' .... :(

I might be a bit lata about this, but great combo 👍 WHen I read trough the post's here, I really get the point of this whole race! Fabulous! Makes you wish that GT4 had yet some tyre compunds :indiff:

My best lap time so far is 2:03.944, multiply by 10 equals too much time wasted for a perfectly clean run. I think driving a Prius around the 'ring would be more enjoyable at this point or I'm just frustrated.

Are you sure you maxed the car power to 572hp ?
Or else you really need to get your damn left foot off the brake pedal

Edit :
Reading the post below from Exelero where she says her best lap is 2'12, I realize that my post here might seem rude.
That wasn't intended : I really thought you would have missed the +20% power -10% weight rule.
I'm far from being a fast driver but I'm running a consistent 1'54 with no particular effort. I guess you really have to learn the track to solve your problem : there are a few licences on Suzuka, you'd better run them again and check the demos, that could be profitable.

you wont have any disputes from me darkwind.
its just as everyone seems to be loving this track- i'm not!!
i'm ready to cry in frustration. *lets out a loud hi-pitched yell from the gut of her stomach*
vexd is trying to help, but i know before the end of the week (if that long) i will have pushed his patience to the limits with this track.
why couldnt it have been the other way round??? if we had used this track to decide our teams i would have done badly. the person i was teamed with would still have thought 'OMG who did i upset to get stuck with EXelero' but then i would have redeemed myself slightly and looked respectable after racing the other track (last weeks).
unless some sort of miracle happens, my team mate may just think himself as racing alone, cos i'm one BIG hinderance.
if you doubt that and want to put "dont be silly, you'll get better," heres my evidence.
i havent managed to run a lap in less than 2.12'xxx. :nervous: :( :( :( :nervous:

i watched Vexd use SH last night. by lap 9 the tyres were red and control was s**t. but he thinks that was because he wasnt running as smooth as he could(hes not happy using my DS2). hes gonna try it later using the DFP to see if its possible.

The advantage of this track is that it is quite wide and large. I have never overshot my braking point and gone spearing off the track because there is just so much track.

Much better then all those walls from Cote last week.

Actually EX, i used hards last nite, which went red near the end.

Super hards are gonna last, easily till the end.
(some of these statements are seriously questionable, its a good job they're in context)
Question is, can i get fast times, with hard tyres, and still do 10 laps on them.

There's no way im goin to "Do an AI" and pit on the last lap.

Bah.

:grumpy: 👍

According to my calculations of when I leave the pits when the timer is at 25secs, and the finishline is almost right on the pit entry, it takes Appox 25-30 seconds to pit.

So if you pitted once, you need to lap consistently around 3 seconds quicker then, someone who doesn't pit. If for some reason you wanted to pit twice, it'd be 6 seconds a lap.

However, since the softer compound heats up quicker, i.e mediums are green by the second lap while I assume super hards are still blue. Their is no way you are going to lap within 3 seconds of that. Also, If you pit once you get an extra green period.

On the second green period, the Super Hards/Hards may be Green as well. But you have a softer compound so you will again be much faster.

I see no reason why anyone would consider not pitting. Unless they can drive very, very well on Red tyres.

What about R1 (SH) on the rear and R2 (H) on the front ?
If you stay easy on the steering that would last all 10 laps.

BTW, are we allowed to select AI tires ?
I mean, if we select Super Softs on the same screen where we select the tire wear, all AI cars will run on R5 (SS). Then we can select for ourselves R1 (SH) and AI cars will pit 5 times while we never pit.

This 'setting' could be used to get a race where we never have to catch up and lap AI cars. Would it be considered 'cheating' or 'legal setting' ?

I meant i couldnt make it on hards lol. Last 2 laps where very bad, losing 10 - 15 seconds total.

R1/2 could probably make it, but whether it would be faster than R1/R1 is a good question, R1/R1 would have less understeer.

I also tried to last 5 laps with R4/R4 which again was impossible.

Strategy 1: R1/R2 or R1/R1 and make the whole 10 laps
Strategy 2: R3/R4 (not sure if make 5 laps) or R3/R3 and pit at end of lap 5.

I beg to Differ. I did 2, 5 lap stints with R4/R4. And was 30 seconds overall faster than with R3/R3.

If you drive it right, it never gets past yellow on either end. It only got slightly orange on the front at the end because that's when I pushed it.

I'm thinking of maybe a 2 stop R5/R5....Altough, I don't think you would be able to make up the time of another pitstop.

The problem with pitting twice is that you have to split your 10 laps as 3/3/4 and :
- either your tire choice was best for 3 laps and you end up running the 4th lap on red tires ;
- or your tire choice was best for 4 laps and you pitted too soon twice.

Pitting once seems from that point of view a better choice, because you can split your 10 laps as 5/5 (or 9/1 if you're AI) and then you can look for the optimal tire set on 5 laps.

...Or else you have to change the tire type when you pit the second time, which is possible I think.
