The one where he begins the famous "On a given day..." speech just coming into the tunnel?

I've got that one too, I've collected a few F1 vids but sadly most of them are backed-up on DVD and I haven't really got them sorted how I'd like. I might post a list some day and see if anyone wants any, but one of the sites I used to visit got made to take down all of its F1 content for legal reasons, so I'm not sure...

Yes, exactly Amp! He had something like 6 poles there in a row or something like that(a record).

BTW, are we allowed to select AI tires ?
I mean, if we select Super Softs on the same screen where we select the tire wear, all AI cars will run on R5 (SS). Then we can select for ourselves R1 (SH) and AI cars will pit 5 times while we never pit.

This 'setting' could be used to get a race where we never have to catch up and lap AI cars. Would it be considered 'cheating' or 'legal setting' ?

This is perfectly legal. As you all can see there are meny strategies which can be used to approach this race.

r0ug3, this is a very tough race for a first timer, I hope you're not too discouraged. Most of the others here have been here for a while and I felt most everyone was ready for this type of event. Just be patient and don't try and go too hard all at once. Run laps in free run or do some of the license tests that use Suzuka to get a feel for it. Then try to get a clean race. Once you have that, running the race over the course of the two weeks will take time off of your total for sure. I think you'll like some of our other races that we will do in the future so stick around.:)

@ CFM:just wanted to clarify here,I didnt see this anywhere...do we have "no penalties" set in the options? I know you said Strong tire wear, but didnt seee anything about the penalties..speed or pitstop.

Use the "no penalties" option for this race. If you make ANY AI contact, even if it is not your fault, the run is not valid, so there's no point in turning the penalties on.

Really enjoying this challenge, love the feel as the tyres wear and the grip levels change, good fun.
Have done one clean run so far on Hards all round without a pitstop. The tyres were just a faint orange on the last lap, addmittadly at this stage I'm just trying to keep it smooth, best lap was a 56 flatish, but fairly consistant through the 10 laps, had the AI set on -10, got held up once by them probably cost me 1.5 sec, at least i have one run banked, now Its time to push it a bit more and see if pitstops help or hinder me.
This track is daunting, but i love how it flows, a classic layout. Great combo, nice one CFM 👍

👍 Got it, just wanted to make sure, thanks!

Team pairings, scoring explination and first round points for the two-driver team event have been posted in a new thread in the WRS forum. Any team-related discussion or chit-chat can be posted there as well.:)

Are you sure you maxed the car power to 572hp ?
Or else you really need to get your damn left foot off the brake pedal

Edit :
Reading the post below from Exelero where she says her best lap is 2'12, I realize that my post here might seem rude.
That wasn't intended : I really thought you would have missed the +20% power -10% weight rule.
I'm far from being a fast driver but I'm running a consistent 1'54 with no particular effort. I guess you really have to learn the track to solve your problem : there are a few licences on Suzuka, you'd better run them again and check the demos, that could be profitable.

I didn't see the original post as rude. My first few laps with the car were brake rides. I'm just lucky the brakes didn't break    . But yes, I have the setup right. I was just getting used to the M/H setup I had combined with my inexperience at Suzuka.

EDIT: I just sold all but 25 cars in my garage and got 8.7 mil. It wasn't a big loss. I didn't use most of the cars anyway.

Vexd i propose not to set up SH for AI cos they want PIT in that way and you will have to overtake them on road - if we give them RH or RM we still can overtake them at the start and make perfect start (AI-10) and they will PITIN later so there is a chance that you will overtake them when they will be piting (i did that twice in 4 runs). Now back to JGTC qualification race ;)

I think Casio has an unfair advantage - there's a corner named after him!

Haha. Nice one.

If only it wasn't the worst corner on the track!

This should be different obviously.

Now with the tire wear, I guess you can try to use the softest possible tires with just pitting once?

Such as, if you use the hardest tires to try to get the most laps out of and you still pit once.

Might as well get some softer tires and get faster lap times because you're still gunna have to end up pitting right?

Ok interseting question time CFM ..

I have not seen this posted yet, so if I missed it I am sorry. But in reference to the tires. Can we change tire types?

For Example, I toyed with this last night working on tire combo's and then for one run after seeing how I did with R2's ~ I ran first 4 laps running R3's to help grip and get through the mess, then when I pitted switched to R2's for last 6 laps. Legal or DQ'ed?

That casio triangle is tough, so is the hairpin. I have been able to use medium tires on both ends with a stop after lap 5, it works just right.

I am in awe of those who are doing 1:50's or less. I just cant squeeze anymore than a 1:52.xxx

so pissed off... throttle on my DFP is acting up again, and the normal take it apart put the black things back in isnt working...

so im freakin choked...
BLAH

How fast are people taking 130R and what gear? I remember a license test that said it can be done flat out, but I'm assuming that they didn't mean "in any car", because I can't hold this thing on the road at anywhere near full speed.

I don't have a problem with that, as I said any Race Compound tires can be used in any combination. That is a pretty good idea though, using softer tires for the second part of the race so they warm up faster. Maybe running the first 6 on hards then the last 4 on mediums or something like that would be a good strategy, and help to avoid the AI even more.

Search for info on a permanent fix here at the GTP, I know I've seen one posted somewhere. I took mine back and got a new DFP which has the updated pedals, and haven't had a problem since, that was about 4 months ago. Call Logitech, I have heard nothing but good things about thier customer service. Apparently they are aware of the problem and have been replacing the bad units.

I'm taking the turn full throttle in 5th and I upshift to 6th before I'm out of the turn. Casio triangle calls for a lot of brake though since you're carrying so much speed.

P.S. I'm watching 'MythBusters' and they're doing tests at Infineon Racing School.

Thanks Darkwind ... that's pretty much what I'm doing ... tapping the brakes, dropping to 5th and hurtling around, getting back up to 6th again ... at some point. And yeah, I'm hitting the brakes hard for Casio and easing her through, because that little sucker is not only a nasty little chicane, but she seems to tighten up there ... little bugger.

Tightens up, eh? At least it's not like that final corner at Tsukuba; it STILL gives me trouble.

I love the racing versions of the 350 Z. My first race car was the LM Z concept race car and I was impressed by how it stuck to the road! Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to race the Motul Z or this weeks race. Coincidentally, I am posting at 1 am here.

I find that the grip of the Motul (with racing medium) isn't that brilliant. I was told that under power it hugs the road, but I'm finding that there's a little understeer. Mind you, that's fresh from the ASL Garaiya which hugs the road like glue, so maybe it's just me/

I am fresh from my JGTC Silvia C-West which will obey my every command....I did this race FINALLY after the third try just to get a time and my best lasp is I BELIVE to be 1:52.334, I am using Mediums as that is what i"m used to from sim mode, but I'll play around, but my pitting was perfect, right at the end of lap 6 I just BARELY was seeing orange.

Well a second time around tonight, I trimmed 12 seconds off my total time and about .5sec off my lap time. My best lap is right around 1:51.6xx So can we touch the AI at all? Or is just one little teenie tiny battle thru one corner okay. I'll try to find out....*CROSSES HIS FINGERS REAL GOOD....*

I did my JGTC qualifyer and 2 tries at this tonight, I'm OUT!

Sorry, no AI contact is allowed. There's still over 10 days left so plenty of time to improve your run, which you most likely would have anyway. It may be a bit bit tought to get a 100% clean run in, but you'll get a good feeling when you get that clean fast run saved.:)

I see there's alot of different strategies to take on this one ... but the big question is probably whether it's faster to take SH tires and do 10 laps without any pit ... or whether it's faster to take mediums and do 1 pit ... ?

I'd say 2 pits are out of the question, as that's probably between 50-60 seconds ... which is half a lap ... ?

I've not even done 10 laps yet, only 5 on SH tires ...

Ahh the great Suzuka (yes I know I'm chiming in late, time zones and work make for out-of-sync posting :) ) Thanks for this one CFM, another of my favorite tracks (though Monaco last week didn't seem to help my position any :( )

So what you're saying is to ensure we don't waste a run we need to give the AI a wide berth. I mean, how many times have they nudged you illegally? Or turned in on you while executing a legal overtake? To quote from Days of Thunder, I though rubbing was racing? :D This is gonna be tricky.

Anyway, just finished my JGTC qualifier for round 1, so out of the turns-on-rails RX-7 and into the suffers-terminal-understeer Z...

fixed my throttle and did some runs on SOFTS

opening lap : 1'48.705
fast lap : 1'45.802

didnt finish the race tho

That's funny...I was driving the GT300 Garaiya at Monaco about a week before this past race in the S2000. The cars are very similar, the Garaiya has more grip, but power was just about the same with mods. The Garaiya was a good tune-up for Week 11, for sure!

Practice a little more with the Z, I think you'll learn to love it. :sly:
