Can't resist the lure of a local track! :)

Best clean splits so far, using 310 gearing & Div2 power:

T1 25.407
T2 56.675

Have seen 25.230 & 55.622, but had a bit of a 'mare on the last bend. :grumpy:
 
Hi there Nick, it's been a while! How's that targa rolling? Looking at your splits I'd say your GT4 thumbs aren't rusty at all ...
Local track my *ss, Yosemite might be real but if El Cap's real I'll take the next flight :)

Oh, I'm always playing, :D, just don't get the chance to race the WRS too often as I'm usually paused midway through some high A-spec point ridiculous race series or enduro! :lol:

Nice combo Sphinx!! Never really took the time to get to know El Capitan, but I suppose I don't have a choice now :). First splits after a long session, and with some improvent left:

I just had to get on the board. These splits are from my second of only 2 clean laps. I need to get some practice with the ds2.

Still quite a bit more time to come off (well, in theory, anyway :)).

310 seems better than the 300 I started with and 320 just seems too slow down the main straight.

After about an hour. Man, last 3 weeks have been a bust for me.
 
2nd go at this, ran a few laps at 320 which is a nice drive if you carry speed well, then switched to 300. A little sloppy here and there, I can tighten it up a little and hope for a quick ride over the hill ;)

I just had a very quick session where I matched my previous best :crazy: However, now I'm able to do quicker splits, it's now a matter of joining parts. I already see a 56.1 there.
 
I also ran some laps tonight and this game never ceases to amaze me at what can and cant be made and lost on each track on different sessions with a different frame of mind :crazy:

I started out good and beat my best save with a 25.2 / 56.0 pretty much right off the bat! ... then I started chasing that ghost and within 30 mins I beat it again with a 55.9 at t2 ... I thought best clean it up with a few more laps before I give in for the night just to see if I could get it a tad neater as it had a few sloppy turns :indiff:

... then out of nowhere I run a crazy lap where my split watching went right out the window .. 25.4 / 56.0 and proceeded to beat my best save by a giant .2 at the line :dopey:

I mean what have I been doing to not notice that if I leave .2 at T1 the game will give it back to you in the total at the line? :sly:

Anyway ... It now tells me I have still left a good .3 or .4 or more on the track in my theoretical ideal lap as my best save now has a 2 wheels in the dirt ( but clean ) incident which slows it down slightly just after the horseshoe at the bottom of the hill :(
I will be racing this one for the remainder of the week I guess as I'm off work with a sore back and only seem comfortable sitting playing on the PS2 or PS3 :sly: wanna get 55.7 at T2 because its defo there :)

Mr P, I've been meaning to ask you, since you also use a DS2, do you use the analog sticks or the buttons for gas/brake? I use the same controls I used when I first played the game - namely, the two analog sticks, AT, and bumper cam. I know those slow me down a lot... but bumper cam definitely helps, and I don't see how on earth Mr P manages to turn those smoking times using kiddy view! :P

Back to the combo... I know some, like Cmir, don't like the "artificial" levels of grip this car has, but I personally love it. It may have something to do with my bad habit of still using steering lock in turns, especially on race cars. But it makes it interesting, as it's all about finding the right line and optimum way to run the track, not necessarily learning how the car needs to be finessed to go fast (I'm bad at that!).

Still no improvement in splits, despite finally figuring out the first turn and the hairpin-double left combo, because the ghost I set seemed to get the right-right-left before the tunnel perfectly, and I haven't been able to replicate that since. If I can repeat that, I can probably come up with another .4 by T2. :nervous:

Sorry! Corrected my original typos, but it was kicking on for midnight (and a full six-pack of beer!) when I posted splits last night! That should've been a 56.622 of course! There's no way I could claw out a full second and not be somehow able to get close again! Once I get down to shaving 1/10ths & 1/100ths, then it's somewhat unrepeatable, but I can see a low 56.xxx at the most this week, I doubt I can make 55.xxxs, :scared: sorry again for the confusion. :guilty:

Ron - No fair taking time off work to improve your splits. You're supposed to wait in the pits while us D3's catch up. :sly:


I managed about another half hour tonight and improved on last night's T2 by about 0.8 but still only picked up about 0.5 at the line vs. my magic final sector lap from last night. :odd:

Enjoying this one but need to work on my landings coming out of the tunnel ... some air brakes might come in handy, runway lights would be better.

320/Manual/G25 (no emergency brake).

Ah... that makes a bit more sense! Still, those times would put you about six inches in front of me at T2 :ouch:. I'd better get cracking on some better times, because you have the power advantage in the fast last sector. The handicap is working, at least!
 
Tried a few laps last evening - nothing too serious tho - but my ghost was miles ahead ... better start a serious sitdown to find that full second to overtake Ron2 somehow :scared:

And again i'm spending way too much time on this :). Nice new splits, but then I completely lost it in sector 3 so only a .3 gain at the end :(.

Never mind the time you're spending on it... the results are there for the whole world to see... Those are just awesome splits for Div3, mate 👍 :bowdown:

I'll have to come over one of these days and watch you in action on this combo. Maybe I can find out what I'm doing wrong...

An hour-long session last night, and the best I could manage was T2 of 58.026 :crazy:

This may be my limit for consistent, repeatable laps - but there is room for improvement. For the whole lap especially, from T2 to the finish I was 0.3 worse than my best saved time. So there's a fair amount of time to get still.

Well RonB, the shoulder is not as painful today so I got the dfp out and ran some laps. I can only do about .5 hour at a session, but there will be more sessions today. I'm glad I can use the dfp because with the ds2 I really can't get in a clean lap.

I've seen a 25.1xx and a couple 25.2's. If I can just put it all together, I may run a 56.5 or lower T2.

It's either there or the the tricky corner combo at the bottom of the hill, or a little of both.

Only have about an hour invested in this so far, but can you help one more of us make a run at D1?

That is the straight before T2. Thats what happens when you take the double left incorrectly and way wide. I was just running the lap through to the finish until I saw only the sky.

Been there and did that.......more than once actually. I just never thought of taking a picture of it.💡 Almost looks like a "Funny Car" leaving the christmas tree at a drag strip, the only thing missing are the wheelie bars on the back.

Take it easy with that shoulder Kenny, I doubt I can catch that time anyway!!
 
Wow, everyone is catching up! I can feel the power of the handicap... Looks like I need to run some more tonight to keep up with all the Div. 3 people. :nervous: And, for that matter, Div. 1 and Div. 2. Nice times, all!
