Finally had a chance to run this race. Great combo CFM, love the track. 👍

After about 2 hours:

T1: 24.009 ( :yuck: seen 23.6xx)
T2: 49.727

This lap I know is clean. 👍

I have another lap which is .150 faster but it's possibly dirty. I checked with the analyzer (at full zoom) and saw a drop of .9 km/h over a 2 metre distance in the vicinity of a wall.

The actual progression goes like this:

Metres / Speed

596.5 / 177.6
597.0 / 177.9
597.5 / 177.8
598.0 / 177.4
598.5 / 177.2
599.0 / 177.0
599.5 / 177.2

I don't know whether it could be caused by the rumble or not but the car is very close to the wall at that point. It doesn't seem to have the sharp 1.5-2.0 km/h drop that most people associate with a wall touch but I was travelling virtually parallel with the wall at the time so I would say it's a very light brush.

I'm certainly not game to submit it; and that should tell the story by itself.

Opinions anyone?

If ur THAT worried about it being so close then don't submit it, I would ALWAYS take a time that is .150 slower and CLEAN than 'risk it all' IMH'D2'O that is.

Shaved .6 off my final time and .3 off my T2 split, but I'm not happy ... there's an easy .5 seconds in here ... I know it, I can feel it ... but I be damned if I can get it :(

Well, I'm officially sucking a$$ this week.

Put in a good 2.5 - 3 hours last night after the house went dark and got down to:

T1 23.981
T2 49.868

Something obviously just ain't clicking. I'll try again tonight and give it a last gasp tomorrow...

Grrr...

heheheheh!!IM now DFP driver here!! woot woot!! JUST GOT MY DFP! absolutely crazy!! feedback is crazy, im still newb! is there any settings i should use?? or should be aware of!!

~~~~ Jase :)
frustating week... had 49´2 in one hour... but then it was a dirty lap... only had a clean lap today, with similar splits... had only a 49´1, but couldn´t complete...
resuming, 0´1 improvmente in one week, but with no clean lap...
bad week so far, lets see tomorrow
too bad i didn't have enough time to play at all last week. (first week of classes + fulltime work schedule... :/ )
but I had some time to kill so I took a stab at this week.
Very fun combo... nice choice 👍
D2, DS2, best I could muster in the time available was:
T1 23.804
T2 49.552
First time since laguna where I'm actually quite happy with my time... heh, my best splits for the whole sesson only end up being 0.088 faster than my submitted time.
One of the things I like about the hong kong track is that when you go through turn 2 and 3 it smacks you in the face and says "I am the most important turn on the track, treat me right!" kinda like the last turn on deep forest.
GL 👍
Uh oh, my friend was round yesterday and he took my gt4 cd out of my ps2 to put another game in and hes lost it! I dont have my time written down anywhere!! If I dont find it soon im screwed!
Mail your saved replay to someone who can read it. He/she'll mail you your lap time back so that you can submit.
If you're PAL and Max Drive and you mail it to flatout [at] free.fr this afternoon I can read it tonight.
yes, those turns are killing me because they are making me restart everytime... i always hit the wall... :dunce:
i had a lot of things to say after this week, speacially because i didn´t had much time to run... maybe 4 hours at best.
i really think that tracks in GT4 have different levels of gripping. :dunce: might be obvious, but its evident in hong kong. such a slippery thing... poor alfa.
this was the first week that my final time is inside the very same second barrier that i hit in the first day... problem was, i only had a clean lap last night... last week from day one to the end of the week i improved 3 seconds, with the clio, 2 seconds... now, i can´t even get one second... :grumpy:
many of you might think. "he is been stupid, he´s third on the leaderboard" ok, i know, i might have a descent lap, depending on the last sector of everyone, but i have not reached my limit. not even close. and that frustrates me. i don´t want to spend a whole day trying to do that, specially now that the NFL season started and i´m with sunday ticket :dopey: 👍 and in a few weeks the NBA starts, so less playing time for me
i got very weird with the gearing... used 240 all week, even after talking to curtis... didn´t seen to get a good lap with 280...
i´m currently 0´8 behind curtis, and i think its too much... because 0´6 of those i lost in the first split... i´m very slow through those fast corners.
anyway, if i can, i will have a hour today or so trying to get at least 0´3 of my final time, what would be descent in my standards... but for now, stuck at work and a little :ill:
i ended up using 270 gearing.
was a nice comprimise of high rev speed through T1 without loosing 3rd gear grunt needed for everything after the hairpin.
Hmmm... I started my second job last week, and Pat's been playing for the BC5, so I've done all of 10 laps... We'll see if I have time to put down some more for a time that's better than mid D3... And look at the two who're on top of D2... Interesting... I thought they were supposed to go straight to D1 and skip D2 altogether...? Lol.
T1 somewhere around 24.6xx and T2 around 51.1xx, using 370 gearing!
Update:
I still suck...
Gearing @ 250
T1 23.966
T2 49.882
Only made 0.15" or so improvement. Tonight better be magic!
Quick controller discussion question:
DFP: Very fine control of throttle, brake, and steering input. Feedback can be useful to gauge grip levels and stability. Slow (relative) steering input and difficulty dialing in high levels of lock.
DS2: Pressure sensitive buttons for control of throttle and brake inputs unless you're using two-stick method. Takes more skill to modulate throttle and brake. Dual shock output relatively useless (IMHO) except to sense wall touches. Very fast steering input and instant lock to lock steering, though modulation and fine control is somewhat more difficult. I have a feeling (and someone please confirm/deny) that PD has programmed in some sort of steering assist to smooth out the inputs.
So, where am I going with this?
I drive exclusively (for fast times) on the DFP, HOWEVER, it seems that this week the driving style needed to go fast is pulling me towards the DS2. It seems as if holl01 can manage winning times most of the time on the DS2, though if the going really gets tough, he whips out the DFP. I practice on the DS2 sometimes and bank on trimming a lot of time with quality time on the wheel.
Who out there (if any) tailor their controller of choice to the event, and how long does it generally take to figure that out?
My biggest problem is that I can't seem to shuffle steer fast enough to really swing the wheel around in tight confines. Maybe if I turn down or off the feedback that would be easier. With tuning I can dial the car such that I can negotiate the corners fast enough with just 360-400 degrees lock to lock, but this week's arcade mode event is making that hard. The only other way to do it is to brake sooner or use the e-brake. Hitting the e-brake button on the DFP is a tough to get consistent, but I suppose with a remap of the buttons I could enhance that.
Comments anyone? Bueller?
Lol, yeah, I hadn't changed it from stock, so it was either that or 380. I just wanted to hop in the car and get some track time finally! I'll do it right in a few minutes... 👍 And report back with some more respectable splits.
Glad to see T13R, Old Geezer, Big James, Kolyana, and Flat-Out returning to the action recently.👍
Hopefully you'll all stop by again in the near future.:)
👍 The welcome is one of the reasons I've come back. Thanks CFM and also thanks to members who have started the WRS since I have been away as I have had some warm welcomes from them too.
Time just about to be submitted for this week, its going to be a bottom half finish Im afraid, nevermind !!
Just about to go into the suggestions thread (if its still there ??) and suggest a race in the BMW touring car, I ran 2 laps of the ring in this and absolutely loved it !!
Mmm, sounds yummy... Mmm...
Ok, for my first real splits, and I don't know if I'll have time for any others... But at least it'll get be back in the races and stay up in the leaderboard... Good luck everyone!
280 Gearing;
T1: 23.947
T2: 50.174
Left about .3 I'd say if I had another couple of hours to play, but not this week I guess. Time being submitted!
I might have a quick look round for my GT4 disc tonight so I can get my time and upload it. But I doubt ill get the time, the college has been screwing me around AGAIN and have told me this evening that I start there tomorrow!
And that they havent bothered calling my apprenticeship employer to negotiate pay, explain what an apprenticeship is, and find out my work hours. And theyve just told me that I need ot do all that and start working there for the day after tomorrow. God im pissed!!
Well let me see here SHig, I use the DS2 controller mostly because there is NO room in my room for a cockpit of any kind and its cheaper not to buy one too ;). I use the analog stick when I drive although for the week where we went to Costa Di Amalfi in the VW holl01 said to try using the direction pad and I did, but it made no difference infact I found it harder onmy wrist and thumb, plus I feel I have atleast a little varying degrees of turning with the stick so I can turn just a little if needed. I felt with the direction pad that it being digital, my turning was either MAX or OFF, no middle ground so I feel I have better control with the stick and its more comfortable too. I have used Kolyana's wheel a few times and have MUCH to learn on it but I can see where technical tracks would be nice to have the almost instant turning ability if I were normally on a dfp that the ds2 provides. Anyone else? Oh! Does anyone know what car was in Ferris Bueller's Day Off? U know the red one that got totaled.
Just submitted my craptastic time. One way ticket towards div 2 last rank this week.
See you at the finish line.
Ferrari 250 California Spider or something along those lines... An extremely rare, million+ dollar, sought after one... Hot stuff...
Packing up for this week at the following :
270 gearing
Qual front tyres
Soft rear tyres
23.990
49.796
Found that with the rear softs the car drifts so smoothly from corner to corner i got more consistent lap times than with the ultimatly more grippy qualifying rears....
roll on results but got a bad feeling about this week....
Ran quick tonight for the first time since Wednesday, not coming close to my previous best, so I submitted. A real shame, was confident with practice I could have been competitive with this one, but was out of the drivers seat for too long :grumpy: . Hopefully I won't slide too far down the charts...
Like everyone else I'm sure...I'm having a hard time getting THREE good sectors together on a Single Lap! :irked: Had one where I was 3/10 SLOW @ T-1 so figured I'd just "Cruise" & watch the Ghost..."Caught" him @ T-2 & ended up being 1/10 ahead at the line! :banghead: Final lap 15/100 SLOW @ BOTH T-times but 15/100 quicker at the line! That'll have to do for this week. :indiff:
THANX CFM! :cheers: ...O.G. :D
Might have another go later this afternoon see how things pan out for the day, other work seems to be gettin in the way!!! :(
