Okay thx for the response Cyril, no worries! Now I'll try SHig's settings tonite! And you know I tried the ASM understeer in my rally series and by doing that alone I trimmed 7.600 seconds in 2 LAPS!!! Gonna try that again this week!
How do you guys get to race in real life! My God, what do I have to do 'round here! :grumpy: LOL. Have fun Kart!

Jerome

Even though my times don't show it I am using a secret weapon this week. If you have a fast connection (huge pics) you can view it here http://www.peterjford.com/fieldtrip/race/ . For those of you who don't want to bother with looking at the pictures, its a Nismo Skyline GT-R t-shirt. Unfotunately I didn't get to wear my VW t-shirt last week so I don't know if the shirt will improve my lap times. For those of you that are concerned about me having this unfair adavantage in the future, don't worry, the only other vehicles I have on t-shirts are Jeeps, which are not in GT4. And they are the slow rock-crawling variety as well.

Okay this is totally freaking me out. I just ran my first session of the day and matched my previous overall time EXACTLY down to the thousandth! What is freaky is in my rally series I ran the Grand Canyon forward and backward, back to back and also got the EXACT same time for both....hhmm....o well, back to racing!

EDIT: Trimmed 6 seconds this time around, using Kart's settings and I had ASM on 1 instead. I"ll now try SHig's settings and see how that goes...
Here's my current splits:
First Lap: 1:02.056
Fastest Lap: 53.846
Final Time: Just BARELY met my 'barrier' goal...woot!

EDIT:
Kart's settings, with these slight changes:
ASM Understeer level 1
Brakes: 7/5
Ride Height: 69/74
Tranny: I have mine set at Auto 10, Final at 4.000 (no I dont cheat and use the 'nancy trick'...BWA HA HA HA!!!!)

I had to ask about qualifying. Maybe it was obvious to others but not to me. I think it was an honest question. @ballsto the wall - I also don't appreciate your insinuation relative to my racing integrity. It's not an "error" to ask a question. If I was that type of person I simply would've done it and not said a thing and nobody would've known the difference anyway. I'm D3 and belong there and therefore I'm not a good enough driver that my time would've been competitive with D1 or even D2 even with the pole start advantage. One reason I asked was so that if it wasn't allowed it would prevent others from qualifying and then claiming ignorance if it came up later after results had been posted. BTW I'm using a car I've had and raced in my garage (not a nice new fresh one). The same one I raced the entire Dream Car Championship with. It results in about a 13pt a-spec race.

Right now I have a 6th place start that is only 3s off my pole position start. So with some practice and luck (or skill or whatever you call squeezing by the AI without a touch) I might be able to match my pole start.

My race featured the Ford GT Race Car (Blue w/ Orange Stripes). The 1st time I ran the race I wasn't able to get to 2nd quick enough (and used too much NOS). I did notice I was able to maintain about the same separation. So I reran the race and drafted him. I thought that might be smarter than passing him and then possibly getting bumped. It allowed me to save some NOS for the end but unfortunately he beat me to the line by 0.042.

@flat-out. A couple of other questions:
=Are we supposed to race the field with the Zonda? Or any field the game chooses? Or should we look for the race with the highest a-spec point value?
=What are "invisible" objects and how might we know if we've made contact with them?

Leaderboard Updated 👍

And I see I'm behind DRIVEN-USA by .001...o well it happens :)

Has anyone else noticed the spread of A-spec point available for this race?
I spent about an hour last night just trying to find a good line up, and saw anything from 5 to 38 points depending on which cars you are given.

i have seen from 6 to 43 points...

The question was worth being asked indeed.
We're not supposed to race against the Zonda : it just happened to be in the first 50 races that I ran. Any field is ok for race, whatever A-spec points it grants.

As for the invisible objects, there are some invisible walls on some tracks. There are places on Infineon Raceway without a wall or barrier but if you try to escape in the countryside you're stopped by an invisible wall. On Cathedral Rocks, you can't be too far away on the grass without hitting an invisible wall, etc. Although you can't see these borders while driving, you are not allowed to touch them : they count as a real wall.

Managed to squeeze in a little time for the race. Not a lot of time this week. :indiff:
Haven't done the comp justice yet (75 mi. on ODO) but loaded up kart no.38's setup and ran a few races. For AI, I got in order, raid, zonda, legacy touring, rx-8, gt spec II. This AI field seemed to be fairly easy to get around, passed the zonda on 2nd turn of 2nd lap.
I have no idea how kart is getting the times he has on the board, but I do know that he is one of the best in the world at GT mode multilappers. 👍 Smokin' times!

My current save

Lap 1: 1'00.3xx
Best lap: 53.6xx
final gap to p2: 11.xxx

Hopefully I will get a couple more hours to play, but if not, this one is clean. :)

Laters!

Tranny: I have mine set at Auto 10, Final at 4.000 (no I dont cheat and use the 'nancy trick'...BWA HA HA HA!!!!)

There is no difference with either to me. I tested the trick and the std settingand there was no time diff..

Okay cool, the tranny trick doesn't really seem to help in GT4 like it did in GT3. Could just be me, but I dont use it anymore anyway. So Kart, what effect does putting the ASM Understeer have at level 2, rather than at level 1? Just easier to steer in the last 2 laps?

Jerome

I have it at level 3 now. It just helps that bit around the circle when you hugging the apex and waiting to get on it again.

In the last 2 laps I just run it deeeep towards the wall and then square it off from that point. Effectively making it a double apex instead of a continuous (/spelling) apex.

Finally, splits to post. Not diggin' this race, but now that I have a decent setup and a good lineup of cars to race, it's not so bad...

L1 59.847
Fastest 53.923

VERY consistent laps 2-5 all within 0.07" of each other. Last lap sucked with red tires and lap traffic messing me up... GRRR!

I think I can take off some time but I may just let the hoard rest this week and submit.

Later,

-Scott

Tried a new stratedgy. Instead of spreading my use of NOS across the race I only used it on the final 2 laps. Without NOS my times are still good and then those final 2 match my other laps.

It ended up being a second slower than my best clean time but I rekon there is more to be found in this concept. Maybe Ill give it another go tomoro.

Hello 👍

I've not raced in the WRS since about week 12 or summat. Still recognise a few names though. Anyway i thought i'd join in again (i'm assuming i can just jump straight back in?). The races sure have got complicated though. Good combo all the same. I just bought everything for the car except the roll cage and left all the settings as they come. Using R4 tyres all round.

Div 2 using DS2
1'00.961 - 1st lap
0'54.793 - best lap

Finished 20 secs up on the 2nd place guy.

I remember you Rob 256R. You, me, kenny, MR8, Z, etc. had some nice battles in D2 back in the day. 👍

I see from your splits that you are still fast.
Welcome back! :)

This race is tougher than the average WRS race, but we wanted to give NOS a try. Next weeks will be more like the usual weeks you had raced.

Cheers dude!. Yeah, we had some close races, although I seem to remember i started dropping off the pace quite a bit compared to you guys, and i think that's what led to me giving it up for a while (i know that doesn't say much for my attitude but never mind). Anyway i seem to have ragained my enthusiam for it, and i'm looking forward to some fun racing.

Thanks. I actually thought i'd come on the wrong forum when i read the details of this weeks race! I like it though; it's good to mix it up a bit.

*Edit* Right, i'm back up to speed now after feeling a bit rusty before. Played with a few settings and i think i've got the perfect field of AI opponents for my strategy (I pass them all before the end of the 1st lap and don't encounter any backmarkers on the final lap).

Div 2 DS2 Auto Aids On
1'00.400 - 1st lap
0'54.111 - fastest lap

Hey! Why isn't this a level playing field!? If anything, GT mode is MORE level since you aren't saddled with a setup that you can't drive! Why is it fair that some weeks you can't be competitive because the car is too understeery for your taste?

Just because you don't have the SKILLZ to tune a car... <ducking and running>

completed part one of my moving... i´ll be over a friends house for 3 days... but the PS2 is with me... if i have a chance to grab his TV, i´ll give another go, but that´s a 0´1% of that happening...

still, i won´t forget this race, verytime we run GT mode i am more convinced that´s way better 👍

i must be a moron but it is not clear how to sign up and participate. i also get the error message described earlier.
can anybody tell me in a few lines how to
- find out what challenge is currently on
- how to sign up
- what to do exactly in terms of gt4 racing
- how to publish results
its probably me but the procedure in gtplanet seems blurry.
thanks for the help.

Hi Steven!

If you go 1 page back, you'll find 4 thread titles on top that start with: "Read this"
The top one is always the current race that is on that week.
You can sign up by running the qualification combo that you can find in the 2nd title. PM your time to Flat-Out. Make sure your time is according to the rules, which you can find here: Rules. Depending on how fast your qualifying time is, you'll be placed in division 1,2 or 3.
All details that you need to know about the current race can be found in the first post of each weeks race. Just PM your total time/laptimes/division and sometimes car to Flat-Out before each weeks deadline. If you decide to join, things will become more clear as soon as you take part 👍
Do make sure you can deliver proof of the times that you submitted. If you're not that fast it won't be a problem, but if you become capable of running fast times we'd like to see you're not cheating.

Have fun and groeten uit Holland :sly:

Cheers pal! I've found myself with a little more spare time on my hands and thought what better way to spend it than on the WRS.

have not found anywhere near the time necessary to commit to this WRS as much as it deserves, too much quality time with the "better half" so i am submitting a reasonable time now, don't know how i will fair in terms of positions this week, probably at the bottom of Div 1 i reckon, anywayz bring on WRS 37...

Yeah I guess its how you look at it, I just 'prefer' racing in identical cars. And yes when it comes to car tuning, my setups are pretty basic indeed....lol.

@shockwaveracing...now dont get any bright ideas, *I'm* gonna be at the bottom of D1 thank you...hehe.

Gave it one last go (I hope).

1st Lap: 59.090
Best Lap: 52.516 (seen a 52.2 and hows this, the run before this one lap 4 and lap 5 was a 52.421! Saved the replay for those interested)

When I pass the finish line the 2nd place dude passes me on the opposite side of the track (+/- 40secs... No idea actually).

   Congrats on your win! Seriously! I wish I had a chipped ps2 to view your replay. :indiff:

I blame it all on you SHig. You had go and nip kart last week, and now he is just going to bury us all.

Blazing splits there kart. I felt pretty good for beating my personal goal by 3 seconds, and will still be way down from where I think you are finishing at. Simply amazing. 👍

Okay, you've got a point there... I guess it's like IROC, no? It's fair, but as always some will always be better suited to the challenge any given weekend.

Also, don't think of it as the bottom of D1, it's 5th overall! That's good!

heh...
